Great movie. Heaths was the best as the Joker . Brilliant performance.
This is not just the best Batman movie, it's one of the best movies ever made. It's so fucking tragic that Heath Ledger died right after giving us this incomparable performance. Rest in Peace, Heath, you will be remembered.
I remember I saw this movie in theaters with a bunch of my friends back when it was new. Our minds were completely blown!! We stood in the parking lot for 2 hours afterwards just talking about how amazing this movie was! It was that good then, and it's still that good now!!!!

The joker, in this film, is the ultimate bad guy. He’s not motivated by money, riches, or fame. And as stated in the film, he can’t be bought, bullied, or reasoned with. He thrives on anarchy, chaos, and trying to bring out the animalistic instinct of everyday normal people when subjected to the right conditions.
Heath Ledger OD'd later that year and won The Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor posthumously in 2009. You can see why.
R.I.P. Richard Moll. Best Harvey "Two Face" Dent and "Bull" in Night Court. 80 runs.

Also...I love the ferry bomb scene. It might be the first/only time that the Batman movies showed that when it gets down to it....the people of Gotham might actually be worth helping and all the trouble Batman puts himself through. And that the normal people, "innocent" and "criminal" alike won't go as low as individuals like Joker..
I hear a lot of people question if that disturbing Joker video would have actually played on the news. In this case...yes. Even in real life. Because the video reveals his terms for not killing any more people. If they DIDN'T release it they would be in super big trouble if anyone else died and the victim's families could've sued the station to high heaven..

As much as I love this movie, I feel like the Joker takes the stage in this movie, that Two Face stuff falls flat. If you watched the old batman cartoons Harvey Dent has this really deep story about mental illness and struggle, and its just a really great story that can be adapted for its own movie. What happened in this movie took that all away, and just had him flip because Rachel got killed, which for me isn't realistic to break a man that bad. You even said it didn't make sense that Harvey went after Gorden and his family but actually didn't kill the Joker that set the whole thing up. The movie is still great with the Batman and Joker performances, I just felt that the Dent story line fell flat.

Nice. My alltime number one 'superhero' movie. Ledger's performance still brings me to tears it's so good.
Here's my favorite part though remember that the Nolan Brothers penned this together.
Joker robs bank > Mafie learns money is tracked from this causing Lau to haul it all to Hong Kong
Joker addresses it while introducing himself as the solution to the batman problem although we clearly see he had no intention of killing batman cause he is too much fun and he completes him

After lau is extradited and flips on giving up all his clients joker is hired for half the mobs money hundreds of millions
He kills a croojed judge corrupt police chief and tosses Rachel put the window then just leaves??
Joker shoots a mayor gets in a car chase gets arrested by resurrected gorden and we realize he kinda planned to be in that whole chase sequence. Because Harvey and Rachel were lured away by the corrupt mob coos in Gordon's unit outing them and joker gets out with a gut bomb.
Only now joker has launched and access to the mobs billions he had hidden
Joker 🔥 burns the pile bankrupting the mob then he tricks his ace in the hole Harvey into embracing his compulsion to fair retribution tarnish his image while batman was occupied with jokers social experiments
Forcing batman to his extremes and his vigilanteeism to take the blame in place of Harvy which passes the Dent Act that gets keeps the mob behind bars 7 years of peace follows
A year ago we learned gotham was so corrupt it had to be cleansed like a fire purging an overgrown forest
Joker a psychopath tactical genius who reads people well enough to be 3 4 steps ahead told us if I told you a gangbusters or a convoy of soldiers gets blown up nobody panics but one little ol Mayer and everybody loses their minds
Nobody panics as long as everything's going to pnan even if that plans horrifying
Look at how much chaos I created with a few bullets and some tanks of gasoline

A soldier returns home to see his home occupied by a corrupt threat
Guerilla warfare helps Robin give power back and fight off the threat wearing the protector uniform

Later in the movie Bruce asks Alfred that thief in Burma did you ever catch him

Some men burn the world tricked by their shadow against the wall
Joker us no hero but he systematically disects the corruption in gotham the rest is like smoke in mirrors and he's playing chess alone that's why he's just the best character in this universe

the guy the played the joker, heath ledger, got so immersed into the character, he literally went crazy and killed himself in real life
Well, it wasn't an actual suicide; Ledger died from an interaction of prescription medications, and it was ruled accidental. It's a pity that he didn't live even long enough to learn that he had been nominated for the best supporting actor Oscar, let alone that he had won.
