Thank you Debby for all of the education you provide on finances and credit. I just utilized your calculator for the venture x. I applied and was approved for $25000. It's going to replace my Amex gold, which provides very little in comparison to venture x. Thanks again.
Good video (as always), but just wondering if it really makes sense to have 3 different point systems, (AMEX, Chase, and Cap. One). Wouldn't better better just to stay with one and pile as many points as possible? Thanks.
⛷️ Park City local here. Really not sure why folks would go to Tahoe vs PC. But happy to keep the crowds in California. That said, for either place, pray for snow. It’s not last year.
⛷️ Hey Sebby, great video. We just got back from skiing at Beaver Creek. Stayed at the Park Hyatt which we booked with points. Booked our flights with Southwest miles and credits. It was a great time. I highly recommend if you haven’t been there. Also, my friend that has skied a lot said Vail is the best ski resort he has ever had the pleasure of skiing. ⛷️ Great review for 2024, thanks. In 2023, I used my AMEX platinum for Disney hotels and parks. Used the FHR credit at the Encore Boston and very pleased. Overall i find value in the AMEX plat, although I do travel mostly to Mexico and the Centurion lounges (national and international terminals) in Mexico City are full much of the time. Priority Pass lounges are ok but not great. Now looking to get the AMEX gold for business as it seems to make sense. Not sure whether all points from both cards can be under one umbrella. thanks for a great YT channel, keep it up. 👍
Great video! I am wondering if you can keep us posted on airline promotions, such as transfer bonus and miles purchase offers. We just came back from Beaver Creek, amazing skiing experiences.
Active CSP - SUB CIU - SUB CFF - 5% groceries and gas (9% on groceries this quarter) Bilt - Rent and 4 transactions On Deck Active Cash - Could be active again to pair with Autograph later this year depending on the transfer partners I'll be at 5/24 until late 2025 so after hitting the SUBs my focus will be to just garden and earn until the 5% groceries and gas offer expires later this year and then I'll need to figure out the next step to earn in those categories (maybe Autograph as mentioned above and then use the CSP for online groceries even though that's not ideal). And then I'll only apply for business cards for SUBs if it makes sense per use case.
Here is my current wallet set up: AmEx Gold and Chase Freedom Unlimited for Personal. Chase Ink Business Cash and AmEx Blue Business Plus for business. Driver license, local bank ATM and whatever card I am working on for a SUB. In my travel wallet I will carry the Priority Pass card, airline card I'm flying on, hotel I am staying at and the Chase Ink Preferred (actually applying in 2nd Qtr 2024).
🎿 Two quick trips to LA from SFO in Jan and Feb. Going on a 10-day Virgin Voyages cruise around Australia and New Zealand in March. Followed by SF Giants Spring Training later in the month. Can't wait!
After this year 75k gold bonus I'm cancelling the card lol. The gold credits is awful. The dining isn't good... All those dining is overpriced to begin with. For me personally i don't order out much at all a few times a year.
Can you do a video showing are the best properties/areas to use the FHR $200 hire credit from Amex. I know it’s YMMV but I’ve found there are certain areas that have a tendency to be reasonably priced vs a $700 a night hotel
Travel plans are really based on business travel and that has not been figured out. Need to use some last minute Hyatt nights and upgrades, so some trips into the city maybe. For cards I'm focusing on the Q1 Chase FF, Gold, Hilton Surpass, CSP, Hyatt, and Platinum. I am pretty steady state now. May get the $95 Citi AA card since I have switched to AA from Delta mostly. Maybe the Alaskan card for the points, but don't have a use case right now so will not jump.
You nailed it..... Double Smoke Stack Burger is the best!!!! As far as my cards, I got lucky and got the CFU double points offer for the first year, so it's been my go-to card. Really need to figure out if I'm still getting value from my Amex Plat. Might be the year I ditch it, we'll see. Otherwise, Happy New Year! Enjoy the slopes! ⛷️ I'm doing my first big redemption and heading to Thailand with my P2 to see his family. Spoiling him with Business class on Air France then a 3 night stay at the Conrad Maldives on the way home. Virgin Atlantic biz class home (NYC) from there. All on points & Free Night Certs. Good start to a new year if you ask me!
Yo Seb,is it at all possible you remind us when the Alaskan & AA are having a sale on tickets & another question do you need to have their cards to purchase them at a discounted rate?
Hopefully, if you visit us in SLC, we’ll have a bit more snow then. And maybe I’ll see you at the airport. Currently rocking Amex gold, with plans to downgrade Sapphire to a flex. Thinking about getting the x too.
I'm confused, why carry around the CFU and Venture X, aren't you using both for the 'other' non-category spend? which one do you use more often as a catch-all and why?
You mentioned: buying points from good airlines/one may like. 💡 can you start doing shorts or ig stories like a “newflash” on when airlines are selling points and which ones to go for?
i don't think the CFU special offer is as good as it sounds.. In essence, you could ask yourself "would you pay $200 for a card that gets you 3% on dining and 1.5% on everything else" because you are foregoing a free $200 and the difference between the regular offer and the special bonus is 3 and 1.5%. Especially if you have a 2% cashback card, and because you get a 5% deal on gas and groceries, it's gonna be pretty tough to make the double points make more sense
I set up this awesome trip to Greece/Italy in June EWR - ATH flying with Emirates business class for 78k points 2 weeks in Greece hopping from Athens - Santorini - Crete A quick jump over to Rome, renting out a car using my president status through Venture X, and heading to Musellaro, Italy to go be with family and baptize my daughter in my dads church Flight home is FCO - JFK flying Virgin Atlantic! very excited for this, a quick layover in Heathrow to be able to experience this flight. im open to another trip later in the year! Please leave suggestions. I can easily fly out of NYC, Boston and CT.
Sebby! Looking to get approved for another sapphire card after 5 years.. any expected 80k intro promo anytime soon for a preferred or reserve? Reserve benefits are looking worth for me in 2024 but not beyond. Preferred more worth it long term. Going to downgrade after a year anyway so I guess that doesn’t matter. Any info on elevated bonuses anytime soon?
Ok how about a CC 101 class in identifying when to buy points and how to decide how and when to use the points? Not gonna lie, I’m lost and want to make sure I’m maximizing every single point
General rule is to buy points if you have a specific goal in mind and need to top off, ideally when there's a sale. Don't buy and let them sit there. Devaluations happen too often.
How much would you prepay a year in advance for $120 in shake shack GCs, and $120 for Uber Eats, dished out in $10 monthly increment? I wouldn't pay more than $125 now. So it is a $125 effective AF. No thanks.
Hey Sebby , I have to make large IRS payments quarterly , what do you suggest for rewards on those? To date I’ve been wasting the opportunity doing ETF transactions directly on the IRS website.
I'm not Sebby....but when I had to do that in the past, I used my AMEX Hilton Surpass to reach the $15K goal to get a free Hilton night. After that I used my Chase Hyatt card to get 2 nights towards status for every $5K in spend. Hope that helps.
I applied for premier card last year and used the bonus points. Can I cancel my current card and re-apply again for the same card to get new bonus points? If yes, then is there a wait time, or can I apply immediately after canceling?
God I wish I could speak to you directly. I transferred 192,000 points to Qantas hoping that I could at least get 2 premium economy seats and I couldn’t come close so when I hear you say 150,000 points is good for two first class tickets to Japan. I’m asking myself how?
When would credit card companies launch their new programs/incentives? Do you think people should apply for new cards before year end or wait until January 2024?
Sebby, can you share or post a video explaining miles transfer from likes of Capital One, Chase, etc, and how to evaluate if it makes sense to transfer miles ? Have Capital One Venture X, Savor, Citi double and custom, Freedom, Unlimited. Racked a bunch of points that I want to use in 2024.
