The reactions to the fetus monster made my day. Andy being characteristically terrified, Mike being *un*characteristically taken aback, but most of all Jane just being so done with the horror genre exploiting birth trauma.
God, the last half hour or so of this is just the best. Jane’s “A-Andy, stop it” when he’s gently stroking the mannequin, Andy’s mounting horror as he realised he’s been given a Hiding Cupboard, and then finally the thing of beauty that is 53:12. Just perfect. I love it. Never knew Andy’s voice could go so high

I love Andy telling them to shush when the baby monster was in the room. I know this bit is very short in the game, but it's enough that I probably couldn't play it. I really hate horror games. I managed the Maiden demo okay, but I don't think I could play the full game. I'll enjoy it vicariously through y'all. And yes, my pulse was racing the entire doll house bit, but especially with the baby.
@@LadyTarasque Yep. I love eldritch horror and I love Bloodborne. I can handle the occasional jumpscare there since that game doesn't actually have many. That type of horror game is just fine, this type where there is the survival element along with needed to do puzzles or gather stuff while also being pursued is not something that appeals to me nearly as much.

I loved how Andy got so scared of the baby he made Ethan fall down, get up quickly and run in fear, just like a normal person would do in that situation.
Someone fact check me, but I think that first one was the biggest scream by Andy from a horror game ever (especially considering the length of the censor bleep).

Luke talked about "baby trauma" when playing Bloodborne; and I think it's a little more than developers think childbirth is gross. I think that it's childbirth is incredibly visceral, intimate, and the last event where you want something to go wrong. Applying horror to childbirth feels visceral because no one wants horror to be a part of their childbirth. The idea of expecting a baby and getting that basement monster is scary because that was IN you.

Maybe it's the vertical-cylinder lampshades on the chandelier, maybe the switch from wood paneling to dark, striped wallpaper - idk, I'm no interior designer - but that room definitely has a retro feel to it.
