Reasons "In Living Color" went downhill, in somewhat chronological order: Fox's increasing censorship of sketches after the "Men on Football" skit from the Super Bowl halftime special, exit Damon, exit Keenen, the show moves to Wednesdays, exit the entire Wayans family and Kelly Coffield, quite a few annoying/needless skits (some felt sorta stereotypical) and a little too much Jamie Foxx in that last season.....can only take so much Wanda in so many shows.
The show moved to Thursdays if I remember correctly not Wednesdays. But it was still a bad idea. Season 1 was great, season 2 even better. Season 3 was the best one. Then it went downhill. Season 4 was ok at best, and aside from The Dirty Dozens, season 5 kinda sucked.
@@williamkanejr3233 Upon further review....right you are. Wikipedia says "In Living Color" went from Sunday night in 1992 to Thursday night in 1993. I wanna say the switch was made midway through season 4. Around the time when Keenen left, who was, conveniently enough, pissed at Fox for pretty much running him out of his own show.
@@MisterMoxley there were some Thursday episodes here and there on Thursday night, but the official move to Thursday didn’t happen until the start of Season 5. Which was by far the worst season. Only “Dozens” saved it from being a complete disaster.

The Wayans brothers are very unique. Skipping half of the family who isn't as well known, Keenan Ivory Wayans-The oldest of them, the leader, produced a show and put his family on. Shawn and Marlon-Went on to have a tv show and successful movie career. Damon-Outside of In Living Color, the first to leave for Hollywood, specifically the film industry, which at the time was bigger than television (nowadays it's like the opposite is true), had a successful show.
Facts, his biggest movie was probably Major Payne.. I just wished he wasn't so conservative and worked more with his brothers. He did mo money with marlon and a couple episodes of my wife & kids with Keenan. He never did anything with Shawn.. like I still wonder why he wasn't in Don't be a menace, all of them did stuff together and he was always the missing brother. I wished they would of did at least 1 movie with all 5 of them
@@1LegendaryWest There was never an exact reasoning for that, but I do recall an interview where Damon explained how they were raised and the pecking order in the family. Like if Keenen asked him to give him something to drink, he could then look at Marlon and go "give Keenen something to drink." To me, that sounds like he had to break away to start learning how to manage stuff on his own so he can have a full understanding of everything Keenen was heading and how to handle that as well. Like if a just in case moment occurred, Damon would have to fill in for Keenen. Though minor and not a very solid fact on this, there has been some moments where he filled in for Keenen for stuff he couldn't take part of.
@mudbuttkilla85 There were 2 reasons why Keenen hasn't appeared in any sketch during the 4th season while he was still a cast member. 1) He had to concentrate more on his newborn daughter Jolie. 2) He went totally bald and wore sunglasses at the same time. Though he did appear on some episodes after the Season 4 premiere but only with episodes that had musical guests. Damon, however was only seen in various sketches that season, but doesn't appear anywhere on the ILC set.
And takes breaks in between shows lol. He had the sitcom "Damon" on Fox which didn't last long then "My Wife and Kids" after that went off the air he didn't do another TV show 'til "Lethal Weapon."
Those be the funniest ones, just like Kim Wayans she's hilarious but if you seen her in interviews she's very polite, well spoken and you wouldn't think she did comedy
@@zealousjay1993 Yeah I don't think he's serious, I would just call it very humble.. Alot of comedians are usually like that, you'll see them funny as hell but when they aren't working they are just humble and quiet even soft spoken.
While nobody loved Damon any more than I did back then , I was glad to see his " Super Star Movie Career " shit the bed after never having really even taken off , for his having pushed the idea of Jamie Foxx onto Keenan. It's like his movie career was cursed for having forced him onto the show. Despite his accolades , Foxx exhibited a lot of behaviors that can only come from a clown who doesn't realize that he never really earned it. It was given to him , and to be honest , - he wasn't funny until he found a prop of some kind , and even then , funny to a dumbed down audience.
A lot of people said that this was the last season or best season of In living color sometimes I agree with the fans but I also disagree because season 4 to me was equally as good a season 3 personally I think when all the Wayans left that's when it went downhill season 5 can tell you that
ILC was a cross between "Cheers" and "Beverly Hills, 90210." Damon Wayans (Shelley Long) left to pursue a movie career that never took off, and the rest of the family (the Walsh family whom was the foundation of 90210) left the series.
Then Marlon joined the cast but that didn't last long. Actually, I stopped watching with the show when the Wayans and Kelly Coffield left. That Christmas episode when some of the cast wore those shades? I knew something was up. #JustSayn
Those guys had a bigger objective, Keenan had his thing going on with Robert Townsend writing and producing films, then Marlon comes in to replace damon but that was short lived because him and Shawn started writing Don't be a menace and planning out their own show, so the brothers were already busy doing other things and that show just interfered with that, they did enough on that show and it was times to venture out.. they are literally like the Jackson's of comedy but there's no mj because they all are the stars
What is the point of continuing the show when Damon Wayans (and eventually none of the Wayans) had no involvement on the show? No wonder that show started to suck...
I’m sorry but Damon Wayans film career wasn’t as illustrious as mentioned. I think he just wanted to leave the show. Blackman, Major Payne, Bulletproof and Celtic Pride??

They lost creative control just like they did with the scary movie series... fox wanted them to go in a different direction and make it more suitable/family like and we all know the wayans wasn't for that they had no filter
Damon Wayans left because he wanted to focus on his movies. He guest starred throughout the season. Keenen Ivory Wayans left 13 episodes into Season 4 due to disputes with Fox. Marlon Wayans left an episode after Keenen. Idk why. Shawn and Kim Wayans left after Season 4. They were forced to stay due to contracts.
