This is what I do to pass time while Metastasized prostate cancer is supposed to be finishing me off, (Mortally). Anyway the time spent is a blast, I can't get out to fly anymore but I can build play and tweak. The building of these speed kits is such a joy that I will gladly assemble any that people in Nova Scotia or wherever want done so they can just fly. I can just build/ you don't want to but do want the plane, Sounds like a wonderful way to end for me. I think I like it, ALOT. LOL
Fight that cancer off, you can do it !! Great for you to build these planes for people.
Peace be with you.
@@harpoon_bakery162 I think he is no longer among the living, unfortunately
You ok
Safe travels, sir.
Best tip in the whole video - gluing the new stick onto the back of the old one.. How did I never think of that??

Yess I know I saw it and was like son y didn't I think of that
I was reading this comment at the time he was saying it. Coincidence 😅😅😅😅
This looks like a fantastic plane. Good work guys! At some point, I believe the addition of a P-47 Thunderbolt to your wonderful warbird series would be very welcome. The P-47 was undoubtedly one of the most influential warbirds of WWII; right up there with the Mustang, Spitfire. The 56th FG P-47 unit actually having more air to air kills than any other single USAF unit during WWII claiming 677 air victories and 311 ground kills at the loss of only 128 aircraft. This was an incredible rugged aircraft that saved the lives of its pilots countless times, often coming home after a combat mission with entire engine cylinders being blown off, and holes in the wings so big its pilots posed for pictures standing through them.
AGREED!! I don't see any Responses from the FliteTest guys on these Videos....
I hope that they pay attention.
This probably has been mentioned, but putting a sheet of wax paper under parts that may potentially be glued to your work surface works great. Plus it is transparent enough that you can see the plans if you are building over a set of plans.
+TAOFLEDERMAUS lol I see you again in a comment. it's almost scary.
+TAOFLEDERMAUS ikr?
+TAOFLEDERMAUS Today on flight test !!! TAOFLEDERMAUS has stopped by with his shotgun and loads of experimental shells to shoot us outta the sky in super slow motion !! ....................
damn it I'm trying out a new hobby and now Taofladermaus is gonna shoot me down with quarters shot out of a shot gun.....
airplane vs shotgun collab!
I'm about half way done and this has been a blast. Never used a glue gun before, new favorite tool. Wish I had purchased the battery, thought I had an old one, but nope. Everything on hold till I get that so I can center servos to finish the fuselage. Thank you guys so much for taking the time to make the videos, -- perfect pacing, camera angles, and level of detail.
Bobby Meeks how have you survived without a glue gun!?!?!
TheSmilingXenomorph I know!!!! I find myself hot gluing things all the time now. Who knew!
@@magicalframe9441 Haha seriously, I mean I haven't used one since middle school but we used them quite a bit back then
Sup Bobby
I had no idea that I was using an hour and a half at I'm watching this how captivating and informative good job Josh
My friend just suprised me with a late birthday gift of this kit. I am pretty excited to have received it. I have been interested in them for sometime now.
Thanks in advance
You guys should do a DC3 kit. I think that would be awesome!
Josh - It's a pleasure watching your build videos. You take pride in your planes look, finish and buildability .................thank you.............. JRW
+unclejack123 p.s. a shout out to Taofledermaus below............he has a great site also (although not RC related)..............JRW
Any chance of you guys doing a Mighty Mini Zero?
A round airframe seems like a big challenge however.
I'm scratch building this plane now, I put the wing in and forgot to test the servos in the wing, one of them of course is a dud! The way the wing is put together, I can't for the life of me open it open to take the servos without completely destroying the wing. Also creased the fuselage like crazy taking the wing out. Going to start over, a good way to spend my thanksgiving :).
Hope you made further progress with your 2nd attempt
Thanks again to the Flite Test team for yet another fun build. I love the warbirds. Are there any plans in the future for a P-38 Lightning? That would be a very fun speed-build. Keep up the creativity!
thats what i want to see
*YEAH!!!!* 🍻🍻🍻👍👍😎
Set up with counter rotating Props - NO Torque Twist! 🏆👏👏👏👏 FTW
35:43 i built my one of these with the servo arms out the top surface so if the wings catch in the grass, they dont strip the servo gears
Lightweight landing gears should help too
I can totally see how building one of these kits would be useful to a beginner such as myself. Currently I am using an intermediate plane as my beginner aircraft, the Eflite Night Timber X 1.2, and have learned a few repair tricks with it. So far I've only flown it enough times to count on one hand, but the experience I feel like I've gained is a lot. The battery bay door in it is quite large for using the battery I use so I figured out the foam from the packaging from the battery will fill that void and keep it from shifting CG. I also broke off the landing gear and now I have experience in how to glue something pretty substantial without making it look like an eyesore. Currently I am waiting to receive the Foam-tac supplies I ordered, tac glue, filler, finisher, etc to keep my plane in healthy flying order. The other thing I ordered but weren't in stock was 6 props so I have them. I chipped a blade on the prop that came with it and I nipped the other blade to match and sanded it down to match the blade before it was broken. I'm sure it will require more throttle to fly it or keep it in the air vs before it was broke, but I'm not sure it will even fly like that. It was close to 1/4 or a half inch that broke off, but the rest of the prop is alright. I might try it but am more interested in just switching it out when my new props arrive. Do you think it will fly and/or is even worthwhile to give it a shot or should I just wait for my new props? Also I want to say that because of this video, I understand expo for a plane. Reading it, and some other videos I've watched don't make it clear and concise as this.
One more question, more an inquiry than anything really. What are your thoughts on laminating the plane, mostly the wings? I've watched videos of people laminating their and I feel like it's actually a good idea for the joints of the ailerons, rudder, elevator, and flaps. Considered doing it to my own as my rudder has pulled slightly away from the fuselage (which is why I ordered the Foam-tac supplies) but I've got hot glue to fix it till then.
I built one of these as a chuck glider for my son, once i added a bolt in the nose for balance she glides beautiful.100 ft easy......gotta be the best looking glider ive seen.
How to power the servo tester with any celled battery: 38:57
I couldn't find how to use this servo tester I bought on Flite test's store and I went to Flite Test's Facebook page and asked for assistance and got lots of help along with some videos such as this here and another. Flite Test Family Rocks
I NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD BE THIS INTO PLANES WITHOUT ACTUELLY OWNING ONE YOU GUYS HAVE AN EXCELLENT CHANNEL
Nice. Would be something I might introduce my little brother to 👍
I just got a flight test add on a ft video! Love it!
I haven't even finished the mini Sportster and they come out with this! Very cool. The minis are cool because they can be flown in small parks. Looking forward to building this one.
Me too
I love these planes and once I learn to be a better pilot, I'll going to build one. My only gripe is they look unfinished in the front with no cowl on them.
I like to watch these videos before so I can see how easy the kit is. If it is easy I would probably get it
thoroughly enjoy all of your build videos. Great instructions!
Can you guys make a p40 war hawk speed build kit and video building it? I think it will be cool!
Is it just me or are build videos satisfying
I was pleasantly surprised to see peter at the end
can u use makerfoam to rebuild my self image?
Just finished my fpv version of this plane from scratch.
Acc name
cant wait to see spitfire!
KUDOS to Dan Sp0nz!!! Thanks for the great work you do for us with designs and plans.
Thanks for the great video. Just finished (almost finished) my first plane-the mighty mini trainer...wow you make it look so easy, only prob so far is; what receiver to use. Every video has a receiver being installed and my power pack A- didn’t come with one. So, I have looked everywhere and watched many Flite Test videos and unless I have missed it somewhere...I don’t think my plane will fly without one. Further, there is no mention or suggestion of what to get. It seems a receiver should at least be suggested as a part of the electronics needed finish the plane. For a new person in the hobby-purchased a spectrum dx6 and a horizon sportsman safe+ trainer for my first plane and radio. Still haven’t had a successful flight. Too windy!
The Power Pak A has a CW rotation propeller, you can use the Power Pod just as it is. However, the upgraded Power Pak F has a CCW rotation propeller, you will need to install the Power Pod upside down to facilitate the effects of the backwards rotation.
Where can i find the landing gear plans for the mini mustang or something showing how to build it please
Vegar Larsen I agree!!
Answers Please!!??
Look online type in mustang plans
Thanks
I only found out about this site today. I am making foamboard air planes too. You are so cool. I'm a beginner, but I'm going to try my best . thank you the good information
Hello, i love what flight test has done for people interested in the hobby. I have a seaduck i rebuilt(6tiimes) and repair almost every time i fly it. But i love it. Now to my point. I CAN'T stand the canopy design on the p51 mini. Thanks for the build tho.
Hi brother. Thanks for the love and feedback. If you want to try a really cool solution, by some simple 10 mm Rare Earth magnets and set them in. Put one in all four corners and it’ll give you the most rewarding snap.
Happy flying. :)
JB
I have a Cox 049 engine and I might put it in this plane and hopefully I can get that engine up and running and hopefully flying
Just got the kit put together. Thank you Josh. very descriptive wasy to follow
What foam board did you use 3mm/5mm
I'm thinking of getting 2 of these and making a F-82 Twin Mustang out of them, do you think it would still be flyable as a twin engine model with differential motor control?
This was EPIC!! 🏆👏👏👏👏🍻🍻🍻
A far less boxy Foam Core Aircraft! Never thought of using Poster Board for compound Body curves before.
If you Guys actually READ these comments, I (and apparently Others!!), would love to see a P-40, P-47, and maybe a Mitsubishi Zero and BF109 or FW190.
I believe GREAT additions to the Warbird collection!! 👍👍😎
This P-51 looks so Awesome! I want to build one, and maybe even try to Scale a second one up.... maybe 150-175%. Thank You for all your hard work, bringing RC Flight to BROKE Disabled Veterans like myself!! It's really a good thing you're doing.

I am now building this baby. I had some confusion with the prints as im scrap building. I thing the only other problem im gonna have is the cutting to fold the material
you need to make a mini Spitfire
download the spitfire what they have and print it scaled down , so you can achive a mini spitfire
hey flitetest. I love your videos and products, but i was wondering... Helicopters? FT helis would be cool too.
I'm trying to make one myself I see the scout has a nice one the one for this one needs to be independent on each wing the bottom of the wing looks like it would have a landing gear for it
This is better then the bigger one ,provide access of the back servo also
I saw your add! Awesome!
guys its can be add fpv camera and action camera??i wanted include fpv system on airplane..if not then suggest me which good plane can be added fpv system..
Can you tell Peter to make an VTOL Batwing or Batjet Look it up to get ideas
thnks alot .. so helpful, buddy!
buttt.. could u show me the tutorial 'how to make conversion from heli to micro RC plane'..:)!
These are great mini planes fast durable mad fun to fly
My dad has a ft p-38 lightning and his friend has a big ft p-51 mustang and there all electric powered plus ima make this plane so we got a squadron of warbirds!
I am about done scratch building this plane to be a glider and thats what i like about your planes. When you make them you do a glide test so they can all be made as a glider. So far i made the sparrow, long ez, and mini speedster and im only 13 years old. Sometime in the near future i plan on doing a team build me and a friend are going to build one of your planes over FaceTime im making the ez glider and he is making the explorer. Thanks for all the flite test fun and im going to finish my mini mustang (my 4th plane) thanks again and bye!
Hi, dont know if anyone mentioned it, buy the title says 'might' in stead of 'mighty'. Thanks for the tutorial! Cheers
awesome design Josh..Thanks for sharing..
So uh this may be bad but I put in a 2200 3s and liked it tbh😅. The weight was good for me and did not care about the wind lol
I use the recommended motor for this. For the motor I find that a 5 to 7 inch Prop is recommended. It doesn't fly with 6x3, fly great with 6x5. But the motor is way too 🔥🥵 The only difference is that I use 9g Servo..
PŘÁTELÉ RC MODELÁŘI JSTE VELICE DOBŘÍ A INSPIROVALI JSTE ME K TOMU ABYCH SI POSTAVIL TAKÉ MUSTANGA.
are their any tutorials for installing the gyro
I know its in the simple stick video. He puts one in and explains it all.
These planes are great.although my mini mustang would not fly with a 2s....I caught a good head wind on one takeoff and once I got in the air but all in all not a very good outcome.with 3s flies without a problem at all but My next build will be a slower flier
Les trains d'atterrissage sont ils fournis ? Sinon peut on les installer soi même ? ... C'est dommage de ne pas avoir le plaisir de décoller et d'atterrir par temps calme sur une piste
Hey Josh and freinds,
Long time huge fan of FT. Just want to bring to attention the heavy ad burden on all of your videos... It used to be a lot more tame but 6+ is quite a bit and makes the videos hard to sit through. I understand its low hanging fruit for revenue but just something to consider.
Thank you and best
Hey Josh and folks over at flight test. How about you make a video series or book or something about designing your own Planes? I love your models but im a creative person by nature and would love to design my own planes as well. Only i have no idea where to start.
I do have an understanding of aerodynamic physics but just don't know how to apply it to my builds. I have only been able to design 1 plane that flew at all which was a small glider (Not including paper airplanes).
I would gladly pay for something to help me get started.
If any of you are also interested in making something of your own design, Like so they see this :D
I second to that
I also second that :)
yeah that would be quite nice
+Torwulf games i second as well
+Torwulf games That would be pretty cool. A member under the name "nerdnic" made a series of videos/articles on the FliteTest website here: flitetest.com/articles/part-1-how-to-design-dtfb-planes
120th! whoo hoo! lol not really. just cool that I'm early. love flite test! by the way. on the drone for newbies video, you can see the corsair under the desk behind them.
Dad never did any models but he'd buy them for me and I'd make an attempt. Might could make a flyable one now 😅👍
At the end of the video you guys are talking about Expo what is it
Deadsilent Expo is short for exponential throws. That means that when you move your control stick on your transmitter it exponentially moves your servo in relation to the values input. What it allows you to do on very small fast and twitchy aircraft is move the controls near the centered point with less precision while reducing the response at he aircraft yet when you wish to do aerobatics, such as a snap roll, you get full deflection when you move the control to the max deflection. It sounds complicated but is a basic XY exponent graph based on a simple percentage. I would recommend watching a video that has visuals of the graph. That is a way better way to help visualize what this accomplishes.
Idea for the next drop: what about parachuting an entire squad of G.I.JOEs (or other action figures)???
I live in the UK . Any idea where I can find the plans for this Mustang please ?
FliteTest.com
I order a pre cut kit from some retailer in germany
Hi guys, Josh mentioned a possible future video on painting this guy. Just finished my own build yesterday and went looking for such a video, but I guess it was never made? What recommendations on paint types and techniques for decorating this and other FT foam board models? Thanks!
look so much better then mine. thanks for the video
These are well thought out kits.
Hey guys, seeing that you liked the nano qx so much have you been able to review the blade inductrix? It's even more durable than the nano and even cuter!
Just saw a plane that might be easy to fabricate with foam board, Boeing YB-9. At one twelfth scale it would be a beast, and wit a few 3d printed details ....the ideas an electrician what do I know about planes ...take care.
Hi Guys, been watching a lot of your build videos and decided to go for a scratch Build on the FT Mini Mustang. I'm a complete Novice 1st time Pilot and would like to know if you have set up instructions for the DX6i Transmitter ? not going to be using Rudder until i get the hang of things. Keep up the great work Guys.
can you guys do a review on the trainstar extange
I would love to see you take one of the gas powered engines that the guy donated to you and put it on a quad have a gas quad that would be great
Well I just brought it out for maiden and it’s my first so I full throttle it and it noses up then down and splat
hi all, just downloaded the plans and headed to the dollar store. happily building along, got all the foam cut. and decided to check out this video. Got to the servo part , and sunk a little. I don't have any! :( Can I put them in later? I realize it might be a bit of a pain. But would like to continue the build
If you don't glue on the hatch that should be no problem. If you first make all parts you can glue in all later.
Este canal te explica muchas cosas don't doubt it.
please make a spitfire :)
I'm a beginner with no experience flying an rc plane. If I get this plane, should I use the rudder or will it be better if I just start out without it?
what is the stall speed of that thing? and what's the stall speed on the mighty mini corsair? Do flaperons work on these planes and do they add to slow flying characteristics
What did he say about the servos in the beginning?
Hey Thanks for another amazing build video!!!! Is there any chance you could make a video on making landing gear for these amazing mighty minis?!? Thx
yeah, retractable ones would be sweet
Where can I get the drawing of the mustang
is there any measurements in the plane parts
Hi Josh, excellent video. May I ask what servos you are using. I am in the UK and determined to build one of your projects. They fly amazingly well..Anthony.
Hey guys, Question what paint would you recommend and also I have multiple colors of R/C plane tape that'd basically used for Balsa planes but just wondering what which would you recommend ?
Would this be a good first plane?
No
Collin Dirks it’s been two years 😂. Thanks for the reply.
@@laytonpratt yea just got a channel so i could comment and hadn't noticed the little time thing yet.😅 well now i know. Have a good one.
@Collin Dirks Thanks 😂. You have a good too.
hi guys, I love your channel very nice and I am happy to build myself planes but I do not know what real degree you may know a good and simple material for me?
Can you use other types of controllers for this build?
how much more weight does the linkage stoppers add. ive never gotten any but i made a 3d model an have 3d printed some an just wonder how my 3d printed parts compare to the real thing as far as weight goes cause i do use 2 m2 screws for each stopper, ive made them were they use thread inserts or just letting the screw cut threads into the plastic, both work but never thought to weight them to see the difference or even considered them being to much extra weight added. i cant say ive gotten it down yet cause ive only had a few successful flights an none had pretty landings but plane always survived, i dont know if the motors i have are ideal or not, i get the 2212 2000kv motors on amazon an also using the 9g servos so ive probably been way over weight for the power of the motor i have. also 3s batterys but id like to find one that is a good starting plane that u can grow into, at least 3 channel or 4. dont have alot of room so it dont have to be something crazy fast an actually would rather it be something that can be flown slow an moderately quick. i want to learn an get decent so that i can start sharing them with my niece an nephews. i have 3d printers so they are always wanting me to make something an the love the planes but im not comfortable with my skill to take them out an let them watch me fly it an crass land it out of fear i may hit one with it or something. i just want to be sure of myself b4 i include them in flying them. if anyone has suggestions one the best way to learn to fly them it would be greatly appreciated. ive seen some u can buy with gyro stabilizers an i wonder if thats something that can be added or if i would be better off buying something like that to start with but ive never actually done it. also if anyone is interested in the plastic stoppers i made the model for an u have a 3d printer an want to give them a shot let me know an ill share the link to my thingiverse, cults3d or printables which ever u uses, im on all of them.
I'm trying to scrounge up the money for electronics (even though I don't have a transmitter) because I wanted to build this. I was curious if you have any student program sort of things
Is there a 4 point prop that works with the mighty mini kit motor to make this build more scale? And if so, what is the size etc. I want to build this plane but I wanted to have a prop more closely resembling the real p-51D as a mighty mini
Nice mustang my dude my guy my human my sentient being
If I was going to print the plans for this what size paper would i need to print it on to be the correct scale?
Great job!
On HobbyKing's website there is a Bix3 is this to do with the Bixler? It looks very similar.
will this plane and receiver bind to my cheap hobby zone transmitter that came with my BNF corsair?
Will 3.7g servos work on this build? I know most 5G servos are 4.2g not a true 5g. The 3.7g are just a little bit cheaper price. TY
I decided to get the power pack after I built the plane. How do I put the wing servos in?
