  • We stopped by and talked to Gabe and Gabe Jr at Gabe's Custom Marine, in Atwater, California. When it comes to marine upholstery, there is nobody better, especially if you have a Malibu boat. Gabe worked for Malibu for a lot of years before going off on his own. They are known for getting boats back to factory new condition. In this clip they show us the procedure for having your skins ordered. If you have a tear in a seat, this might be an easy way to fix without having to drive there. They also get into the gel coat repair and sea deck / gator step they are doing. All pro-level stuff.

    Drive me nuts watching him use the blade. I would use a blade in a cutting tool.

    Thanks for the video Billie! I had a skin replaced a while back and I really considered doing it myself now I feel comfortable enough that I will do it myself next time and even make a video about it.

      Most people could do cushions. Make sure you use stainless staples.

    Great video, I just did our Seadoo seat. My one word of advice is just buy the right tools. I used a screw driver and pliers and ended up with a ton of bleeding knuckles. Only took my about 1hour including taking seat off and putting back on, but would’ve been tons easier with staple remover.

    Great video!! When you have the time may you please tell me what tool you used to remove the staples. Thank you so much.

    FYI, there are great ceramic coatings available for upholstery that will protect old and new vinyl.

    Hello! Was the vinyl used on my 1994 SeaRay 220 BRS of high as quality as what comes in the Malibu? Mine was well cared for by the two previous owners, but may consider replacing all the upholstery after this season.

    I’ve been upholstering about 31 years now,. Building Catnapper / Jackson’s furniture, I’ve went part time and doing some upholstery at home,. A lot of people has wanted me to do some boat seats, iv had a guy bring me a couple seats to try and learn on, I’ve got them apart, I usually use the old cover to make a new pattern, problem is, is how to flatten the old cover so I can get the right cut ? I’m pretty sure I’m going to go about this the hardest way because I don’t know the tricks yet,. Lol ,. Could you give a pointer or two ?

    Not all marine vinyl is the same quality. Some boat vinyl has a thicker color layer so if replacing make sure you clarify the color thickness you are buying and utilize vinyl that has is thicker color depth and will last much longer. Some OEM vinyl is not really the best quality.

    I have a 2005 Skeeter SX190 I would like to get new seat skins for. Do you have the pattern for this boat? Also how much does it cost to get just the drivers and passengers seat done. I wont be replacing the center section its not that bad.

    Hello! Beautiful shop and work! I do mostly custom auto upholstery but I have a new boat project. One question though… do you seal or waterproof any seams?

      Since they didn't answer you and I am in the Marine canvas and upholstery business I can offer what I do. You have 2 options for "trying" to keep the water out of the foam. You can do one or both options together. 1) any seam can be sealed with a basting tape, and 2) you can wrap the foam with silk film.

      About 1600. Got it with Uship. The 06-08 vlx or lsv will allow you to make good waves.

      Malibu Hull V23 is same hull on more than one model. My 08 vRide is the 21’ Ride which is the V23 Hull. This boat was the Wakesetter in prior years.

    Why is Vinyl the choice of material for Marine manufactures? Why not like the same material used for higher end patio furniture, seems like that would last longer.

    • @btuff
      @btuff  3 роки тому +1

      Vinyl has good UV resistance and is far more durable than upholstery on lawn furniture.
