This is a great idea. Have you tried putting the metal parts under the paddleboard, so that they could not hurt you if you fell or would that damage the paddleboard/affect the stability?
Hi, it would probably have limited impact if they were under the board, but I think it would be better to pad them with some foam rather than put them under the board.

I saw this video ua-cam.com/video/CHyrZmGl8do/v-deo.html where someone used an extended selfie stick with a clamp to angle it up. I might try and combine your idea with his so that the selfie stick is on a ballhead attached to your base. Might then be more stable than just using your foot as in his video.
