    Been considering upgrading to Starlink from using mobile hotspots. Great review and more and more I am convinced it is the way to go, seeing as come spring I will be fulltime and living in backcountry. Thank you.

      Definitely, in the backcountry there really isn’t any other option. Due to high network traffic the speeds aren’t always 4k fast but hopefully that’ll improve over time.

    Great video! I have been researching also and have decided on Starlink when I go full-time in a couple months. What I really like is that the option for those who are “mobile“ is that there is no requirement that you have star link turned on every single month. If you don’t turn it on during the month, you do not have to pay. Video I saw recently shows the process for turning it back on to use, and everybody should be aware that you must have cell service in order to turn the dumb thing on again… It cannot turn on by talking to the satellites, your cell contact it’s server on the ground.

      That’s interesting. Haven’t put our on pause so haven’t had any experience but that seems pretty odd. Maybe they’ll fix it in a future software update.

      This has changed from the early days. The Starlink web site is now accessible via a Starlink connection that is paused or inactive. This is the web site only and not the phone app. By accessing the web site you can then unpause or activate your Starlink even without having a cellular connection.

    Just found you guys. I've literally been researching Starlink - and what they say is available in your region. I was going to rent a tiny house and work remote but 'tree canopy' which you confirmed would be an issue. Def want one. Thanks.

    Thank you! So it sounds like it’s best to have traditional cell plan also?
    And I assume it has a dedicated router?

    • @OutOfThisVan
      @OutOfThisVan  2 роки тому +3

      We kept our cell plans. Since we only put it up at camp or when we are working. That still leaves a lot of other instances where cell service is helpful like driving, running errands, out on trails, etc. We did get rid of the hot spot on one of them. Starlink comes with its own router, we didn’t get a great shot of it in this video it was the white box looking thing near our electrical. We did put out a initial review video when we got it that shows the router better.

    Just curious how big your batter bank is?

    • @OutOfThisVan
      @OutOfThisVan  Рік тому +1

      We have 340ah lithium batteries that are charged from 400 watts of solar and a battery to battery charger. For details check out our webpage www.OutOfThisVan.com. I consider this a pretty big battery bank. Our van had all electric appliances before this year. We finally got a dual burner propane stove.

    QUESTION
    We bought rural property. My cell phone will not work there. Once in awhile it might let me send a text.
    I'm not the greatest with technology.
    If i have the starlink will I be able to make and receive calls with my phone if it's connected to starlink wifi?
    Thanks in advance.

    • @OutOfThisVan
      @OutOfThisVan  2 роки тому +1

      You will definitely be able to connect your phone to Starlink and you’ll be able to send/receive calls. You’ll need to make sure you have a clearing at your rural property so Starlink won’t have any obstructions. Setting it up is pretty simple. You just plug everything in and they have an app for your phone you can use to finish setup.

    • @backroadsusa6915

      @OutOfThisVan  2 роки тому

      @@backroadsusa6915 while I did have service on my initial setup I think it should be able to connect into the Starlink and use it’s service to finish setup. (Finishing setup is just changing the name and adding a password and doing any new software updates)

    Do you worry about someone stealing it?

    • @OutOfThisVan
      @OutOfThisVan  11 місяців тому

      I’m sure someone’s had it stolen. But no, not sure why anyone would steal it. It’s worthless without the router and I’m not positive but it might be locked to my account.
