Length, heavy hit, good for tool use, only the axe blade needs sharpening, spike is a good thrusting weapon and the hammer and axe heads make a good stop so anything impaled can’t run up the shaft to still get you. Other than a silent, ranged weapon with infinite ammo, this is your ideal SHTF option

Drakken Melee does require skill, If you want to actually kill them first Hit. Bow and arrow is the best far ranged weapon, while a baseball bat with nails or a reinforced metal pipe is also a must have.
There are a LOT of tips that could have been better covered that would help you actually SURVIVE:
1) Avoid fighting whenever possible - your body count won't mean a thing when all it takes is a single bite.
2) Use stealth. Loud noises will attract other infected. Guns, car engines, chainsaws... all nice and loud.
3) Choose the right weapons - bird hunting rifles and crossbows are great from range. As for melee...
4) Pick a good tool for a melee weapon - crowbars and fire axes can open doors as well as zombie heads.
5) Get a BICYCLE. They're quick, maneuverable and best of all, silent. They also won't run out of gas or fail to start.
6) Try to make it off-shore. Zombies can't swim. A large boat off the coast or off-shore oil rig will be extremely safe.
Great tips but dont depend on a bicycle all the time. Its best to keep a vehicle like a big car or truck nearby that can protect you and run over zombies if you end up surrounded by them.
I'd say a Knife would be ideal for melee, it's got nice maneuverability if space is limited. Axes and crowbars are a lil' heavy, an axe can definitely get stuck. I don't care what anyone says, a car will be the best way to travel. Most cars aren't that loud and provide full cover. A bicycle leaves you nice and vulnerable. One stone in the road or accidental wrong turn and you're zombie chow. Not to mention if a fellow survivor wants your head, you have no cover and they can easy throw a stick in your wheel well. I'd say if your plan is to go to an island/oil rig, make sure to have PLENTY of livestock and/or farming stuff. If you know what to do, you'll never need a supply run ever again.
Bruh oil rig is a death sentence. They cant swim, but they sink and they can walk. Over time, they will get to that oil rig by sheer numbers. Boat is WAY safer.

Two more things: wear the right clothes (long sleeves and pants, armor etc.) and always carry a melee weapon with you, in case you run out of bullets

What happens
I've got three more.
First: if you use more than one gun, use guns that have the same kind of ammunition. That way, you'll never have to worry about which bullets to refill a magazine with, and if you find a box of rounds, you can just dump it in your backpack during a supply run, not worrying about having to remember what kind of ammo it is.
For example, if you use an Uzi and a Beretta, they both use 9mm Parabellum rounds, so you don't have to worry about what kind of ammo goes with which gun. You can refill both magazines with the same rounds if there's ever a dull moment during a supply run, and also when you're back at your base.
Which brings me to number two: pick up a gun that has plentiful ammunition manufactured. 9mm rounds are one of the most common and mass-produced bullets in the world, so it pays to use it, because you'll find it quite frequently in gun shops and the like. The same goes for the AK-47's 7.62mm round, because of how common the Kalashnikov is. 12 gauge shotgun shells are also incredibly common, so shotguns are a good weapon to use with regards to ammunition frequency. On the other hand, while the FN-P90 is a reliable weapon, its 5.7mm round is quite a bit rarer, as the P90 hasn't been in service nearly as long as the other weapons I've mentioned, so you'll have a harder time finding ammo for it.
Another good one if you work with other people is to establish your usefulness. The group will be less likely to betray you or leave you behind if you make it clear that you're necessary to the group. If you show you're an expert marksman, a skilled medic, good at picking locks - if you can establish your mastery of any skill that's really valued in the apocalypse, you'll have a better chance of being saved and protected.

If you are using guns try to have a suppressed firearm like a suppressed ar 15 and a supressed glock as a side arm suppressed weapons will make less noise drawing in less zombies
plus you save your eardrums with a suppressor. one thing that never gets brought up in zombie movies firing off all those shots constantly will eventually make you hard of hearing and lower your chance of hearing a zombie or survivor approaching.

Actually, if zombies were real, and they were the walking dead zombies, blood loss or a shot to the heart would kill them. If there was no heart, blood and so oxygen wouldn't be able to get to the muscles. If no blood got to the muscles then the zombie wouldn't be able to walk and no oxygen would get to the brain.

WD walkers don't die from blood loss, that's why they can lose limbs and still keep going. However the electrical impulses from the brain still send signals to the limbs so disrupting that in a catastrophic nature will kill them (again).
Themagnificent7th But that's exactly my point. Blood loss should kill them because they need oxygen to get around the body. So in a realistic encounter with a walker, a shot to the heart, lungs or body would kill them.
In World War Z, they move the blood around their body by contractions of skeletal muscles, and their blood is much more coagulated.
It would if they still used blood as a means of transporting oxygen to limbs like in 28 days later where they are for all intents still people just driven mad by a virulent strain of contagion. In the walking dead they are going by George Romero rules where the only way to kill them is a headshot disrupting the central nervous system because blood flow is not essential to life function. I don't make the rules, but I can say keep thinking "hearts and minds" so that's two to the heart and one to the mind and you'd have your bases covered.

I would say to make sure you train to be about half military standard because that would weigh you down and most people tend to exercise wearing almost nothing instead of their more everyday style of clothing that would give them restrictions and don't carry any sort of weight. I would say train for 50lbs because by then, with weapons, supplies, ammo, and possibly armor, you would have possible around 25lbs. That depends on what you brought of course, and if you train for 50, well, you would be have that weight limit and therefore can go much longer.

Only the _best_ medieval body armor for us Zombie Apocalypse survivors, none of that butted "beer tab" chainmail that you can buy from the cheap booths at Ren Faire; that shit won't mean anything but an embarrassing death once the zombies claw it apart like a cheap dress on Prom Night. No, _riveted_ chainmail's where it's at!
You can buy battle-ready medieval chainmail from websites like Battle Merchant; that site even lets you pick chainmail with round rivets _or_ with wedge rivets, if you're that fussy about the details. Historical riveted chainmail was designed to stand up to solid hits from longswords and battle axes, which is pretty much why the Norse raiders got their asses kicked out of England after the English came up with chainmail. If chainmail will stop a steel bearded battle axe, a zombie's teeth - which are still going to be made of enamel and dentine no matter how buff the zombie is - are going to crack, split, splinter and break off as soon as the zombie bites down hard.
And don't forget to wear a leather gambeson underneath, because wearing chainmail on bare skin for hours on end can chafe like a bitch! ;-)
+kab hes Some people talk like walking around in medieval body armor makes as much noise as throwing sauce pans at a brick wall. Just go to Ren Faire or Medieval Times in Dallas, watch some guy moseying around in battle-ready medieval armor and you might see that that's not the case at all. It's sounds like "...sheenk...sheenk...sheenk...", not even close to "CLANG! CLANG! CLANG!" It's just like how people say that you can't get back on your feet if you get knocked on your back while wearing full plate armor: It's pure bullpucky.
Plus, zombies may not have ears like bats anyway. And they're eventually going to catch you moseying around no matter what you do, so you might as well improve your odds of successfully fighting your way out of a mob without losing any of your bodily fluids.
+Lydia Benavidez Spoken like someone else who doesn't know Thing One about medieval armor! If it's so easy to tear body armor off of people, then why did the French have to invent the misericorde, a special dagger designed to slip between armor plates and/or to pierce chainmail for the purposes of mercy-killing wounded knights on the battlefield? Why couldn't the French just tear off people's breastplates and stab them through their hearts? Because medieval body armor has belts, buckles, joiners, tethers and links all over the place, designed for the specific purpose of securing the armor to the body and keeping the armor in place despite the rigors of battle. _That's_ why! The armor takes a while to don and it takes a while to doff, but the extra time you invest in properly donning your armor could save your life.
Plus, have you ever tried to unbuckle somebody's pants while he's scooting around and throwing punches at your face? If a fully mobile and fully dextrous living human can't do it, a zombie (who, if the majority of movies and TV shows are spot-on, is slow, clumsy and halfway to brain-death) can't do it. So zombies unbuckling your chainmail or your Maximilian armor until you're naked is a non-issue (and more than a little ridiculous).

I just went to the range today and shot 150 rounds of 9mm through a Glock 19, and two CZ75B’s. I shot fairly well, just keeping in practice.

Samantha D Given that both the CDC and the Army have zombie contingency plans, I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss the possibility. More personally, after several months of research into the subject ( yes, I am a nerd who once had way too much time on his hands) I came to the conclusion that a zombie or zombie-like outbreak was possible, if not immediately imminent. See, it doesn't have to be animate corpses ( although I believe I worked out how to do that); there are any number of organisms and substances which can make humans become mindlessly violent. After all, it takes nothing more than blocking your brain's supply of serotonin to accomplish this. That one chemical separates 'civilized' people from a 28 Days/Weeks later style gore fest. Or take a mind-controlling brain parasite like Toxoplasmosa Gondii. It normally infects rats, but humans who become infected with it become far more likely to go absolutly nuts. All it would take is an evolved strain to take over the human mind and destroy our logic centers, turning us into violent, potentially cannibalistic monsters. And, oh yeah, 50% of all humans on the planet are already infected with some form of Toxoplasmosa, so there's that. Sweet dreams! [ Oh and as I recall from that Florida case, when they tested that guy, they didn't find any Bath Salts in his system, just some trace amounts of marijuana. I thought maybe he was the Patient Zero for the new mutant form Toxoplasmosa, but that's just speculation, no real evidence.]

Here's my plan: Before zombies: Exercise, keep a duffel bag with tools, food, drink, first aid, weapons, clothes and other useful skit in the trunk of my car, and maintain my car regularly. Outbreak: Give my computer a goodbye hug and disconnect it from the mains, put on a leather jacket and run like Usain Bolt to my car and GTFO of the city and drive to the country side. Find a small hut, unpack, secure the area, and go hunting/fishing.

It has been suggested that a military base will provide a serious stronghold against a zombie over run. If that is true, consider re-locating to El Paso County Colorado. We have six bases here (including NORAD).

You don't need to be the fastest runner. You just have to be faster than the slowest person. Trip them if you have to.
Shields are good too. They can be used to control the zombies arms, pushing them safely way to open them up for a quick strike to the head.

Katanas are highly recommended melee weapons. For guns always choose a crossbow. They're good for being quiet and not attracting more zombies or psychotic survivors.
