So capturing the hash and putting it into Autopilot allows the computer to download the autopilot json just before OOBE and store it on C:\ for use during first setup. if you're using a tool like OSDCloud or WIMWitch, or any other imaging for that matter, you can just put the json on the disk directly, without needing to bother with hardware hash collection.
