I feel like when Babe Ruth outsells a president, you need to tell the story of when Babe Ruth was asked what he thought about having a higher salary than the president - "Well, I had a better year than he did."
@@billysikes1374 Same here. I hadn't heard of some other NBA player who was on a two-player card in this video either, but I haven't watched a single game in about seven years. Still, if a card is going to command tens of thousands of dollars, the player should be someone even non-fans have heard of.
I'm not saying any particular card deserves or doesn't deserve to sell for what it does, but not based on someone not being universally known. The Wagner T206 sells in the millions and I guarantee you nearly every non sport fan has zero idea who he is. In fact, even among modern sports fans, I would bet many don't know anything about him outside the one card being famous. To be clear, I'm obviously not comparing Giddey to Wagner.
Back in 1968 l bought a pack of baseball cards in a store near where l went to elementary school. It cost about 10 cents for a pack of 5 cards. I can remember standing in the schoolyard opening the pack, with bubblegum, and got that same Ryan & Koosman card listed for 40 grand. I don't still have it, and that's not so grand.
Nolan is so under rated and under appreciated as a pitcher. Strikeouts and no hitters won’t be touched. He had great longevity. He played for bad teams and still had 300+ wins. Amazing. Also, hardest thrower EVER. 108.1 mph in 1974…. Smokin…
So the 12k 1976 Topps common. Does that imply some registry collector out there is ready to spend 8.4 million on a 700 card (or whatever it is ) gem set ?
@@collectorinvestordealer I would assume most psa 10s in that set are very low pop count . Here’s a video idea . Explain why people care about the psa set registry . That’s a question I’ve always had .
Thanks Chris, still would rather buy that new Midnightblue Camry than 30K + of Joe Burrow.....Giddy.,40K .OMG, madness!! That Orr card was a beauty, last time I check he is a GOAT, not a wanna be , could be GOAT
Keep up great work Christoból!! The Zion and RJ prizm is BOTH their rookies. They have the same rookie year. And if you look at Beckett label it says 2019-20. Seller screwed up year putting 2020.
Lajoie T206 at a 7 is like a 12 for other cards. What is up with the 76 Capra?! It might be worth buying a bunch of commons and hope for a 10. That Gretzky card so ridiculous; I suppose the more fluffy names they give to a card the more money its worth. Given the chipping and corners, if that Orr was 71 baseball it would be a 4 or 5.
@@collectorinvestordealer I'm guessing they appraise it as well? I have a Daniel Jones red wave rookie PSA 10. The card is # 001/149! I wonder what the value is?
Idk if anyone can confirm this but I’ve heard many of the black box/white box 1/1 are just unfulfilled redemptions (or replacements for damaged cards) from panini where they just add the 1/1 sticker
The '56 Topps Vic Janowicz. Always cool to see him show up in a slab. He's from my hometown and the street the high school is on is named after him. One of the lesser known two sport guys.
Lol Buzz Capra signed the same card in picture for me in 1993, It was in perfect condition, he held it and creased it, Lol, it would be worth a 100k if he hadn't messed it up
Bit late but It's wild that 1/1 cut auto of the babe and a keystone president barely make your money back on the box it comes out of. One of the best examples of why your money and value will go further with singles instead of wax.
Hey Chris, it’s Matt from Legal. The seller is absolutely stepping over bounds and infringing on our *BLAZER* copywrite. I’ve immediately sent a cease and desist order. Along with a bill for the full amount of the card sale + 20%. Rest assured that I won’t rest until justice is brought. Talk to you soon- Matt in legal
I recently acquired a 2003 Topps Finest Basketball Hobby box (Lebron!!). The box is not sealed, but each of the 3 mini boxes are still sealed. Is there a way to authenticate it? Thoughts on best way to sell it?
True, but maybe had no intention of buying but rather exposing the fraudster… might of been easier than just reporting & by no one buying the card seller could keep doing.
That Mahomes is nice but it isn't *actually* a 1\1. The standard card was probably numbered to 99 and this would have been a card Panini kept in case they had to replace for a damaged one. Once they decide that they held it long enough that and they don't think they will have to replace any they stamp it as a white box 1\1 and give it to a customer, usually in the place of several unfulfilled redemption cards.
How many kids had them PMGs with low #s in the 90s and had no clue that got tossed in the trash for not cleaning up.... wouldn't that make pop even lower ?
In what world is a 1976 common going for $12,000? Furthermore, what kind of person would pay that? Wouldn't you rather own a T206 Lajoie - one of the greatest hitters in baseball history - for the same money?
Just gonna add that Lajoie should be pronounced “lah jwah”… rhymes with “foie gras”, if that helps. What’s more, I really like the old SGC slabs; I don’t have that kind of $ to spend on cards, but if I did, I’d definitely take that Ryan RC at $40k w/ $60k left over than spend $100k on a PSA 9… thanks for another enjoyable vid! 💪🏼🔥
If Ken Burns is to be believed, Nap himself pronounced his name LAA-zhoo-ee. He did NOT use the french pronunciation lah-JWAH, nor the American la-JOY.
@@rlsfrny that’s really interesting! I’ve known of immigrants changing the spelling of their surnames in order to more or less harmonize or blend in, but I’ve not known of people intentionally taking on a different pronunciation… at least in the case of a French surname. At any rate, I didn’t mean to be pedantic or anything; the former French teacher in me simply couldn’t resist making the observation 😂
@4:10 RJ Barrett and Zion are both from the same 2019 rookie class..
Good call, I missed that one
Chriss please don't leave us without these high rollers for a week, any more.😊
Always enjoy your videos thank you for your time and your love for the hobby
I feel like when Babe Ruth outsells a president, you need to tell the story of when Babe Ruth was asked what he thought about having a higher salary than the president - "Well, I had a better year than he did."
And we don't even need to consult the research department to know that that statement is in fact accurate
I doubt a president has ever had a better year than some of the Babe's years
If some players had a worse year than year before they would lower their salary.
Welcome (back), Lewis!
Hmm let me pick:
Option A) Babe Ruth auto & Abraham Lincoln auto & slightly used Toyota Camry
Option B) Josh Giddey Auto
Tough one 🤔
I would take option C) a lightly used Toyota Camry and whatever cash is left over
I’m gonna go out on a limb and say that sale will always be the No. 1 Josh Giddey sale in world history.
Lol never heard of him
😂

Man, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Nolan Ryan RC so perfectly centered (on the front, anyway), wow. 50/50 in both directions.
Yeah, the front was perfect but the back was messed up enough to justify a 9 grade. Off the charts eye appeal on that one.
It was perfect on the front! And to think if it’s sent to PSA and gets a 9 it’ll be about $50,000 more! Crazy! But not crazy with the PSA demand!
With PSA grading right now it's probably a 7 or an 8.
Yeah, PSA will def pop control that one….
So the 12k 1976 Topps common. Does that imply some registry collector out there is ready to spend 8.4 million on a 700 card (or whatever it is ) gem set ?
It’s probably a common with a particularly low pop count so is much more expensive card than most psa 10s. But regardless, your question is a fair one

Zion Williamson and RJ Barrett were both drafted in 2019.

So what is special about the Buzz Capra card? Thanks for the video, always appreciated Sir! 🙏

I am not sure... you could contact Baseball Card Exchange (BBCE) and ask if they authenticate that.

Josh Giddy! Aussie, Aussie Aussie! Hopefully a better outcome than Ben Simmons. Lost a few bucks on those cards. Lol
