I randomly came across you guys 2 days ago with the fox blind test and now this has become part of my routine looking for the new review of the day. Very Entertaining guys!
I went Icon Stage 9 primarily because it was a complete (brainless) solution w/leafs and UCAs. I’ve been so pleased with it I wouldn’t change it for any price. Firm it up when loaded and on road. Soften it up at air down and hitting dirt. Makes my heavy taco ride like a dream. Love this series - keep it up.
I have Icons, front and rear, but I went with SPC upper control arms. The bushings in BOTH UCAs already have play in them after 5000 miles.... Needless to say I'm very disappointed and am not even interested in replacing them. Would you guys recommend Icon UCAs??
@@patrickshoemaker6047 I went with the iCon Billet admittedly for looks but that said I haven’t had any issue. Probably at about the same ie 5k mil - so still young but yeah, been solid for me.
@WheelEveryWeekend I’ve been running a set of 8112s and 8100 smooth body’s since November so probably a tad less than 8k miles on them. Are you able to tune these for me if I could take them off and send to you? If so what’s your turn around time normally as it’s my daily driver. I could buy a set of 5100s to use until I get them back
I wish I had this series a couple years ago when i was lookin everywhere for reviews, knowing i didnt need the best of the best to get by for my taco. Went with the Icon stage 3 for the easy complete install and havent looked back. I would def recommend them, thanks for the vid.
The music is TOO LOUD when they are in the garage towards the end of the video. It's distracting when they are describing the stocks. You can barely hear Braeden over the music. 🤷🏽♂️
Very curious to see the last 2! I’m running 8112s on 600# springs and JBA UCAs with 8100 smooth body’s in the rear at the moment on icon rxt stage 2 and archive flip kit and bumps 33” Toyo OC AT3s. TRD Pro front skid and RCI steel under the belly
I really like the Bilstein 6112 front and Bilstein 5100 on my 2021 Tacoma TRD 4X4. On my very first off road adventure the front Bilstein 4600 shock bend on the lower part of the shock. I was shocked to see that happen on a TRD 4X4 OFFROAD model truck. The 6112 are very good on the front suspension of the Tacoma.
Gotta test some ADS next, I threw some of their bypasses in as secondaries in the front of my 4runner. Running fox bypasses in the rear and fox coilovers up front, I've pulled those foxes apart and revalved them a few times though. Once you start taking shocks apart and tuning them yourself i feel like it really comes down to what you can find parts for the easiest. Also what are the people you tune with running and know how to tune.
Thanks a lot for the video. Would be lovely to see how they are performing on the ramp, what the actual droop with each set compare to stock, especially because all of them have different length in total.
Would love to see this repeated with 2.0s. I have heard the foxes run soft in 2.0 compared to other brands (Im looking at f150s). But this has been super informative, I looked at the fox 2.5 but do not want stiff shocks for dirt road riding
Hooray! Didn't make a total mistake getting these used and rebuilding them lol. Fwiw, add Apache Offroad AX2s to budget setups? Dobis, Apache, Ironman, OEM variants (Tundra on Taco etc, Bilstein, Freedom OffRoad, Rough Country, used TRD Pro etc
My Bilstein 5100s have a really tight jitter at speed on anything other than smooth pavement, but they handle decently, especially with tight cornering, they're competent in the sandhills, and my wife hates them so she stopped driving my truck all the time (she loved the stock Hitachi shocks for grocery runs..)
This has been very helpful because i do a lot of the slow offroading. Roads are in the forest with creeks, big dips, rocks etc. I need something better that the current bilstein.
need to round up the whole series in and easy to review format 1-10 scale and rank them all according to your blind tests. Would be way more helpful than the drawn out series. or at least do this when you are done please thanks
So when you add preload to the front to raise say 2inch... i need to change the spring rate to balance the valving of stock tune? Do i go more or less ?
I think your levels on the music are too high to the point that it's getting in the way of the guys talking. There were several points in the video where I couldn't hear key points being made and had to go back and turn captions on.
We actually had a lot of audio issues with this specific video, some of our mics stopped working and we didn't notice until it was too late. The other videos are better. Sorry about that.
What size were your tires during all these tests? I am curious if you guys got any rubbing with any of the different shock variants with whatever size tire you were using.
I’m by no means an authority on the subject but after you install a new set of shocks shouldn’t you do a wheel alignment? Or is it only if you change the UCA? If so aren’t these results a little skewed? Just asking for a friend 😊
Your alignment changes mostly because of lift. We didn't really change lift height between shocks, so the alignment stayed more or less the same. Also, you can get alignment pretty close just with a measuring tape and some patience. Close enough for a test like this
@@OverlandOutfitters roger doger. I’m in the market for a set for my 18 4runner so this is a good series. I was leaning toward Elka’s for a number of reasons.

Really wishing I had seen this video before dropping almost $5k on Fox 2.5s and Deavers on my Tacoma hahahaha. I can attest to the harsh small bump sensitivity on the Fox

I ran bilstien 5100s for 10yrs. Now running kings 2.5 remote resi. And love them.
thank you for this series... great idea, great execution. helping slim my choices down

This one has the best camera work so far, incredible content. Maybe it’s the lighting
patiently waiting on the bilstein review!
after these tests, it would be cool to see if the adjuster knobs really make a difference or not

My rock crawlers have had 5100s on them. When they said if all you are doing is crawling 3mph buy the cheapest shocks it's really so true.
Love this series! I hope Y'all can keep expanding on these and add the Dobinsons MRR and maybe the Bilstein 8112 which doesn't get much attention.

How would these compare to bilstein 6112s ?
Could you guys posts the SKU number from Icons site or the SKU for the 4 runners version of these?
Do you guys have any experience with the “factory” Toyota Trd 2 inch lift that the dealership offers?
I understand the dssv multimatic shocks are gm shock but id be curious to see what you guys had to say about them in comparison.
I have icons 2.5 stage 3 on my tacoma and I love them there pretty sweet
What is the ICON part number for the kit and/or part list that was installed ?
Could you tell me what number of rubber bands you are using and the rim? Thanks

Looks like front 2.5 non res with icon 2.5 rxt rear
This whole "video a day on one topic" idea is very nice.

Found a pair of ifp for my rig used for 600$ but they look oxidized. Worth it?
Fox and Bilstein also have offset shaft mounts in their line.
Thanks for doing this guys. Subbed
Curious…what tire and tire size was used for the testing?
They were brand new 285/70r17 KO2s
What handles better on road, the factor shocks or Fox, or something else?
What radio mount is that?
Thanks for the review. But the fronts shocks should of had resi like the others. How can you compare with less oil capacity? What about fade?
We tried but couldn't get them in time. Rear has resi
I’m looking to upgrading the suspension on mine. Does anyone know the specific icon shocks they’re using?

Only if you have added a lot of weight to the front. If not, stick with 600s

285/70r17 on method 0-offsets. They rubbed a lot. Plastic liner delete, pinch weld, and CMC required for this kind of activity.

Not comparable to the other shocks with resi’s. At high speed due to fade. They should have been the same as the others.
