Dr.Grande I have to agree with you, when it comes to quantitative research "science" comes to mind, but not with qualitative research. They both are extremely valuable and move us forward in knowledge. I have to say I love qualitative research and the point of theory being rooted in the data. Something about it feels relatable and perhaps an inside look into what and how a group may be experiencing a phenomenon. Thank you for the video.
This video gives good explanation about the differences between qualitative and quantitative research. Its also helpful to know how the results section should look.
I used to get confused between qualitative and quantitative research. This video gave a clear explanation of the two which was very easy to understand.
This video very clearly outlines the two types of research, qualitative and quantitative, as well as their subsets. The video helps the viewer to understand how the different types of research indicate how the research is conducted and understood with respect to the theoretical orientation.
Dr. Grande- this video allowed me to understand the two types of research. This video also allowed me to understand how the research is conducted and how it relates to the theoretical part. This video was very helpful to me especially taking research methods currently.
I really appreciated the explanations of both quantitative and qualitative research. Seeing them together and being able to visualize and have it explained of their differences and types of research examples was useful to better understand the two of these. I like how they were side by side and explained.
The two q's of research. These two, qualitative and quantitative are so easy to confuse with one another. This video did a great job explaining the difference. I never really had a problem differentiating the two, but this video is also a great resource in helping figure out which direction to go for a given study.
I always thought both qualitative and quantitative work together in any research. This video explained that it depends on the type of research where one may be recommended over the other. Thanks for the clarity.
I had an idea of what qualitative and quantitative research was all about, but this puts the two in perspective. The comparison is very effective and helps me in determining how to set up my research proposal paper.
This was a great brush up of the two types of research. I particularly appreciated Dr. Grande explaining the tools used to conduct each type of research and when you should use qualitative or quantitative methods at the end.
I absolutely loved this video because it gave me a very understandable breakdown of the differences between quantitative and qualitative research. This is a video that I will be saving for the future. I thought I understood the differences, but this video went into more detail and gave me much more information than I thought was out there.
This is what I have been needing all along! I already knew and grasped the concept of both quantitative and qualitative research. However, in terms of how this particular video was broken down was helpful. I understand that the scientific community may view quantitative as more reliable, however I enjoy qualitative. Most likely because quantitative gives me a headache.
I also thought that when I watched the video. I like to have the basic foundation first and then get technical (which is ironic since I tend to like qualitative research better). This video helped me understand some differences between the two methods and where my mind was getting confused about some concepts.
This video was very informative and simplistic. I liked how straightforward it was and I really appreciated the breakdown at the beginning of the video laying the two types of research out side by side. Seeing it in this way was so enlightening because I have never seen a professor or a textbook go about describing the two in this way in such detail without making it confusing or convoluted.
This video easily explained the difference between quantitative and qualitative research. This has helped me structure my paper. Very informative and helpful video.
Michelle Robinson I will definitely be using this for my paper as well. I think that Dr. Grande had us watch this video specifically for that reason because the general consensuses (from the comments) everyone seems to be using this for their papers.
I liked this video. It was a very well explained breakdown of both qualitative and quantitative research methods and the difference between them. I realized that part of the reason that I have a difficult time with quantitative is because most of my exposure had been with qualitative in my classes in the past. I do like the black and white of being able to state causality with quantitative, however I like being able to infer as well.
The way the video was set up, and seeing the differences between quantitative and qualitative listed, really helped me understand the concepts better. As always, the examples provided were helpful.
I agree with you Melissa, it was very clear the way its differences were explained. Not only on how the research would be done, but also the main focus that each type of research aims for
This was a great in-depth look at both types of research methods. The video gave me a more advanced understanding of the differences and how to use both approaches in research.
I understand these methods of research data better and it reminded me that qualitative data is used more effectively with a smaller sample population. I just forget how to tell what the cutoff number is for your sample size to be determined large enough for quantitative research.
This was really helpful in my understanding between Quantitative and Qualitative. I always get the two mixed up....I mean they sound so similar it's easy to get them mixed up. This video did a great job of showing all the ways that they differ.
I am glad that this video was posted, I have always understood the basic differences between the two, but I have never taken a deeper look into this. I like that you used the language of tentative when talking about qualitative.
Between this and the breakdown between qualitative and quantitative in the book, it explained so much more in depth the difference between the two. I also wish the qualitative gained more respect. I find so much use in qualitative research.
It's really beneficial to understand the difference between the two methods. This will be useful for identifying the two types and understanding which to use for research.
This was a great break down regarding quantitative and qualitative research. I think I understand more clearly what each type of research is used for, as well as the benefits of each. In my experience, I have been taught much more about quantitative research. Therefore, in the future, I would like to become more acquainted with qualitative research.
Although I understood both approaches, I was partial to quantitative research. However, now I have a clearer understanding of qualitative research and how it provides insight into the problem and develop ideas.
I liked that this video explained in depth the differences between qualitative versus quantitative and when they could be used. I like qualitative research design because it builds the foundation of a theory. And if I wanted to later, I can use that theory to conduct a quantitative research to analyze.
Excellent refresher for me. I somehow manage to mix the two methods up at times so this video certainly a must watch for me and helped significantly. Thank you!
It was interesting to see the differences amongst qualitative and quantitative data. I feel like I have a much better understanding of the components of each. I also found it helpful that Dr. Grande identified which type of research to use in selection.
I appreciate the value of this video. It is helpful as an overview and refresher. Although the Neuman text provided an explanation for both quantitative and qualitative research, the video provided an illustration of the characteristics for each side-by-side, including similarities and differences.
This was a great review of quantitative and qualitative research. Before this class, I was more familiar with qualitative research which is more about the subjective experience, using interviews and observations. I found it interesting to realize that the participant takes the interview where they want to take it... the exact opposite of a quantitative structured interview.
That was really interesting. This is a great comparison into the two research styles of qualitative and quantitative research. The best part for me was really looking into how to choose between the two. Qualitative always seemed easier to me because of the lack of structure and statistical analysis but there is a lot to qualitative research that I did not know- it doesn't seem so easy now. Very informative.
I enjoyed the video. It gives a good picture of these two types of research; how they differ in process, analysis, & results, as well as how these could both be useful.
I have enjoyed learning about qualitative and quantitative research throughout the semester through watching the videos, reading the book, and discussions in class. I find the topic fascinating. I would prefer to do qualitative research only because math is not my thing. I do want to explore the different types of qualitative research more, specifically action research and historical analysis.
This was a good breakdown of the difference of qualitative and qualitative research. I found this video to be helpful especially the results section. Results are ongoing with no definitive conclusions.
I agree with you Dalieta. Reading about these two types of research can be tricky and confusing. Dr. Grande did an excellent job at explaining the difference between the two.
Good video. You made important distinctions between quantitative and qualitative research that will be very helpful in planning the upcoming research project
Solid list and explanation of these types of research. It was quite useful to see the aspects of these different things side-by-side for comparison and determine when to use which one.
Very informative and in depth video on the comparison of quantitative and qualitative research. I think I prefer qualitative researches ability to lay the foundation for a theory. I find this really intriguing.
I think this was a great overview and was a nice compliment to the book as well. Really clearly showed the difference between the two types of research.
Bethany Elstrom I completely agree. If anyone ever had a difficult time differentiating between quantitative and qualitative research, they would be set straight after watching this video!
This video clearly provided explanations of quantitative and qualitative research, and highlighted the differences between them. I find that qualitative research appeals to me more than quantitative. However, I am now aware that each type offers specific strengths and weaknesses in depending on the circumstances that need to be considered prior to conducting research.
Jacklin Skibicki I agree, I also prefer qualitative research because it is easier for me to understand. I also liked how this video highlighted the differences because I used to get confused between the two.
Jacklin Skibicki I agree about the appeal of qualitative research design. I am not a math person so I'd prefer not to go that route if I were to conduct a research study.
This video provided a good introduction to quantitative and qualitative research. I liked seeing the differences between the two side by side. I am still getting familiar with them.
Hey! Something I understand! I liked the breakdown of each part of the research. I think I would much rather DO qualitative research, but I understand that quantitative research makes the world go 'round. I really like more drawn out descriptions and understandings of things, so I think I prefer qual. I also liked this video because I remember reading about this in the book.
I found this to be very informative, I liked being able to compare and contrast the two types of research and it really clarified the differences between them.
Lori, I agree that the layout and explanantions made it easier to compare the two research models. It clarified some misunderstandings I had concerning the main function of each model.
I learned how both qualitative and quantitative research can be scientific. I felt like qualitative data was less important than qualitative data, but now I see that qualitative data is useful also. I always thought that quantitative data was more difficult and required more writing, but it makes sense now how qualitative data actually can be more difficult and time consuming.
Great viedo on quantitative and qualitative research. I must say I like qulitative much better than quantitative, I perfer this type of analysis. I like the process of subjectivity of observation and getting to know the subjects and there is no statistical analysis.
I can see a lot of parallels between this video and the course book which was helpful in following along. I always find it interesting that qualitative takes much longer (typically) but is not viewed by the scientific community with as much respect, for lack of a better word, as quantitative research. I agree with Dr. Grande, I think both forms are scientific and this video (and the course book) give a strong look at both sides of research and how each are strong in different ways. Look at the research and finding a lot of quantitative studies is a good way of recognizing the need for qualitative and vice versa. I feel like using a balance of these two forms of research rather than putting so much emphasis on quantitative will better and more rapidly formulate knowledge.
Alicia Zahn I agree, using a balance of both quantitative and qualitative helps to formulate knowledge quicker. As opposed to placing so much emphasis on quantitative.
Great description of the two types and I like qualitative is unstructured and can be used to build a foundation of research on if there is not much available on the topic of choice.
This video was helpful in understanding the difference between qualitative and quantitative research. I feel like I have a better idea of being able to identify those two types of research now.
I thought I knew all about qualitative and quantitative research. I didn't realize that there were so many different types of them. I found it interesting that one type started with data than led to the theory.
I thought this video was very helpful! It clearly explained the difference betweeen quantitative and qualitiative reserch. I personally like quantitative better because I like numbers that I can see and interpret. I also see how it would be difficult to decide which type of study to do with everything you must consider.
Mandy Moore I can see how quantitative research can be easier, as the comparison of numbers is straight-forward, and eliminates guessing, but I do think qualitative research is of equal importance as well and can hold some great information for researchers, even if it does not include a numerical factor.
Mandy Moore Yes, I definitely agree. This video certainly helped me to understand the difference, and opened my eyes to the numerous considerations that are involved in determining which type of research to conduct and utilize.
This video provided a great breakdown of quantitative and qualitative research. I prefer qualitative research because I can understand and relay the findings in understandable terms. Mathematics at times escape me and seems to be much harder to explain.
***** I agree that this video did a great job of breaking the two different types down. I also agree that I would prefer qualitative over quantitative.

Candace Fernandez I think a lot of us agree with you. But I think I would question, say, a study about a new medication that only had qualitative studies done on it. I would want "where are the numbers?!". I see the place for both.
The video made an in depth comparison of Quantitative and Qualitative Research Methods. In Quantitative Research 2 or more variables are used then the relationships among the variables are observed. In Qualitative Research comparisons are made to build a theory
John, it seems that understanding the purpose first draws a clear contrast between the two research methods. Either the researchers are beginning with a theory (quantitative) or building a theory (qualitative). The types, methods of data collection and analysis, and results seem to fall in line from there.
Whenever I hear qualitative research I always have a tendency to think more about sociological work. I understand the importance of qualitative research, but I feel as though it could be frustrating at times due to the fact that its much harder to produce concrete measurements.

I think this is the first time I have had the opportunity to hear a clear and focused presentation regarding the differences between the two.
Dr.Grande I have to agree with you, when it comes to quantitative research "science" comes to mind, but not with qualitative research. Jessica Muzzin I agree, this was really good breakdown and I was happy to notice it was basically unbiased toward on or the other form of research.
Thank you for sharing this video Dr. Grande. I appreciate the breakdown of the differences between quantitative and qualitative research.

Thank you I am doing a research project in my Doctoral program in Philosophy in Advance studes in human behavior
It does make since to decide the type of research by first creating a research question and size of the study
Informative video, I personally prefer qualitative research over quantitative because I am not mathematically inclined and believe that I would miss calculations or numbers when it comes to quantitative. I would be most interested in conducting historical analysis research.
Candace Fernandez I prefer the narrative approach in qualitative research. I like the informal approach of qualitative research.
Candace Fernandez I agree. I prefer qualitative research too. Mathematics is not my strong suit.
Candace Fernandez I think a lot of us agree with you. But I think I would question, say, a study about a new medication that only had qualitative studies done on it. I would want "where are the numbers?!". I see the place for both.
Thanks for this overview!
Helpful - relieved to be seeing less mathematical lessons.
+Tracy Marshall-Johnson I agree. The last set of videos was overwhelming to say the least.
Tracy and Ashley, I believe we can all agree on that one, refreshing to say the least! Enjoyed the video.
Again, we see the potency that comes from both qualitatively and quantitatively assessing populations and their respective cause and effect.

+Dawn Zink I agree and I also see the benefits of utilizing quantitative research for upcoming research project.
Thank you! Coreen
Is this course based on a book ? If it was so,would you tell us about it please
Thank you
