The best thing to do This is what we do at the Tractor Dealer Is weld the hook to a piece of flat stock 1/4" or 3/16 and bolt the plate to the bucket .Cleaner and stronger job !
Love watching this content! Just bought a 45.acre farm I'll be working to hunt and for wildlife watching. Hoping to get my first tractor soon too.
When your using a small 110volt machine to weld thick material a pre heat will help a lot. As warm as you can get it.
Cast iron requires preheating to get good weld. Practice, practice, practice helps too.
Those welds will hold, I have no doubt. I've only been welding for a little over a year, and while my welds are no prettier than yours they get the job done. I welded three 10k lb. recovery hooks on my bucket and I've lifted downed trees, skidded logs, picked up implements, etc. and have never had an issue with my welds. I have a HF Titanium 125 flux core welder that has served me well, and it really comes in handy for projects around the house and making repairs on equipment. Thanks for another great video, and I'll say a little prayer for your dearly departed microphone. 👍😉
Thanks so very much for the feedback and your kind words. Don’t miss the Monday night livestream at 7pm EST. It will be fun!
In my opinion, these hooks are a must have for any loader. I have welded them onto every bucket I have owned and several friend’s tractors. I put one in center and one on each edge, in line with loader arm.
Love your video, I have been a hobby welder for over 50 years, two tips that I would advise you to do. One SLOW DOWN on your travel speed, then go SLOWER. next would be make circles or little "C" motions back and forth evenly and SLOWLY from one side of bead width to opposite side.. carefully watching that you don't burn a hole through the steel that you are welding, if you do, that is too much penetration which you want but not too much. God's gift to bad welders are side head grinders and laying another bead on top of the bad one. I have covered up so many bad welds utilizing this method and no one knew of my poor performance.
Thanks very much for your support and great tips! Much appreciated -Ed
Hello, I have the same welder. Your not a crummy welder. Ray Charles welding with a mig on gas will produce better results than your best welder on flux core. If you haven't pulled off the hooks you are just fine friend. Enjoy your vids, one of my favorites sites, thanks a bunch.
Haha, thanks Steve. They’re still there! Cheers! -Ed
Thanks for the awesome video. Love the humor and sorry about the microphone. Good job Ed.
Thanks Ross! I learned a lesson. Tuck in the wire!
Good job! Had not thought about locating the hooks inside the loader arms. Good tip!
Just purchased a Kubota L47 w/ front end loader, box blade and 6’ cutter. Thanks for the videos
Awesome! Congrats!
Finally getting some hooks put on..one on each end and one in the center. Thanks for the tip on aligning it with the loader arms...good tip.
Glad to help. Thanks for watching!
Lmao 😂😂😂😂 was wondering, why did you blurrrrrrr the new paint job, and then it hit me. Too funny.
Perfect!!! Little grinding and some paint…professional product!!😁
My first new tractor (2501) I welded those exact same hooks..turned out nice!
My current tractor (3902) I did something different . I bought a hook, D ring , hitch combo on a steel plate that I welded on top of the bucket.
Much more versatile for me and my needs of lifting things!
Not a bad job on the welds ( not great tho ..lol) looks like it needed more heat but Should work just fine!
Nice! Thanks for sharing. -Ed
I am not a excellant welder. I never liked flux core welding to dirty of a weld with all the splatter. I mig weld with a gas mixture of argon and CO2. I also found that by setting my heat up and the turning down the wire speed I get better penetration and a good clean weld. Works for me. I use .035 wire and wire speed of 30 - 40. I use a Miller 220 volt welder. Do what works for you. I really enjoy your channel. Look forward to your next video.
Thanks Charles. I do plan to get my argon tank filled and do more mig welding. Flux core is kind of the easy way out, but there’s more cleanup for sure!
have the same welder. nice job. always learning
Really nice start on your youtube channel. Great audio and video. Love the new intro.
I just found you from a comment you made on tot's channel. :)
Would love to see you doing some more upgrades to that Kubota.
A couple of tips:
* Turn audio down in post when making loud noises like grinding.
* Be careful with loud music.
Other than that, you are golden.

ricande I appreciate your kind words and thanks for watching!
Just purchased $150 flux core wire welder.... totally amazed with welds using 120 volts. Let us know if weld holds. Looks good to me. Would be interested in your learning experience with welding.
I saw your comment on TOT so I came over and subscribed.
Traffer thank you! I hope you enjoy. I’m no TOT, that’s for sure! 😂
Nice job 👍
I think weight distribution would work just as well on a tractor as it does on a boat. Three hooks instead of just one. The outer two are open to the cab, the center one is open to the loader blade.
Thank you, Jay. -Ed
Dont weld with the magnets in place. Tack the hooks so they stay where you want them, and then take the magnets off. Heating them can do bad things to how they hold up, not to mention, I've seen cheap ones get out of square :)
Good point. Thank you!
Good professional job. You will get lot's of subscribers...eventually.
Thank you so much 🙂
Liked the video especially the pixeled out disturbing welds. LOL. From a DIYer stand point, 035 flux core has always been better for me than .030. Maybe it's the Lincoln welder is use likes it better? .030 always spattered too much for me. Came to the video cuz I'm adding grab hooks to my old Ford 1720 bucket.
Thanks for watching. I’ve heard .035 is preferred by many. Glad you enjoyed. Thanks for watching!
Like your vids, and sorry you need some practice with the mig. Still you make this fun to watch. Cheers.
John Ambro - appreciate your comments, and yes I do need practice! Thanks for watching. -Ed
Cheers.
The more you weld, the better you get. If they break, its just more practice to put them back, no loss, just more experience
Another great video! New sub here!
Thanks so much. Welcome!
Thanks man! All welds are good welds until they break 🤣
You got that right! Thanks for watching.
Was the polarity of the welder set up wrong? Gotta remember to do that when switching between mig and flux core wire.
As long as it holds. Every good welder started out as a bad welder.
i loved it
Good day Sir, keep up the good work and you weld look strong. You have a great sence of humor !!! LOL Just subs to your chanel !!! Cheers !!!!

@@MyClutteredGarage A lots of good things happen to you since then and I'm very happy for you Sir. @@RCAFpolarexpress thanks for all your kind support, David. I appreciate it and do wish the best for you too!
@@MyClutteredGarage Thank you very Kindly Sir Ed, I'm living the dream being transfer to an RCAF Base 🤣👌👍😇🍻
Gloves and a guard and handle on your grinder. 👍
Those hobarts are nice welders, but definitely upgrade the "ground" clamp to one of those all brass clamps (HF has a decent one, although you might also need to upgrade the "ground" clamp wire as it has a very large wire clamp). That small change will help improve your welds, everything else is settings and technique. (also not a welder, but learned from them on how to do better)
RIP lapel mic.
Ask Questions, Try Things it’s all about constant learning. Thank you!
He's right about the brass clamps
Another quality video but that poor lapel mic! Thank you for sharing and showing us your creative side! :)). #sharethe positive
Thanks for taking us through the steps. Will this work on a blue tractor??? lol
You just need blue welding rods 😄
Why did you choose weld on hooks vs bolt on? Welds fail due to fatigue much faster than bolts.
Thanks for great video
Thanks very much. Well, if you think about it, the bolt on hooks are still welded to the plate that you bolt on. Granted, the welds are likely better then mine!
@@MyClutteredGarage thank you. You are totally right. I appreciate all your videos and advice.
Thanks for this! Are you happy with the hooks? Any reason you didn't add one in the middle (or two offset 6" in case you run a grapple)?
Thanks for watching. I’m very happy with the placement of the chain grab hooks. You can check out my video number five, where I added a clevis hook in the middle of the bucket. So far, all have worked great for me. I also have the land pride grapple. ua-cam.com/video/Xe2QtJH45lY/v-deo.html
@@MyClutteredGarage The clevis hook makes a lot more sense to me. Didn't think of that one. Thanks for linking it! I'll be looking at the rest of your videos. Lots of cool/useful stuff.
I have been thinking about adding hooks to my B2601 Bucket. They sell bolt-on hooks. I have no welder, so I may go that route. Thoughts? Cheers!
Peacefield Farm_MN I don’t have any experience with the bolt-on hooks, but I be they’re great. You might also want to check with a local welding / machine shop. Thanks for watching!
The railroads only use flux core, but then again all their welding is outdoors so it’s possible it’s because of wind blowing the gas away
Hey Sam. Yes I’ve heard that flux core is better in windy conditions. That’s interesting about RR’s. Thanks much! -Ed
I bought the same hooks, but cannot get them to stick. Using Klutch 104i flux core. Setting volt 9 wire feed 6.
I like clutter and I love orange....even the orange paint can't hide my ugly welds....you do a lot better than me good luck
I'm learning every day, my friend! Thanks for watching!
More dog cameos!
5/16 hooks are plenty big for anything almost any tractor bucket can lift unless you get into a huge loader bucket. 5/16 chain is also plenty big for anything almost any tractor can pull or any load to bind down. 3/8 is way overkill. As you get older, the difference in 25' of 5/16 and 25' of 3/8 becomes quite noticeable! LOL
Haha, good point. I think 5/16 can still work safely with 3/8 hooks?
You need 220 in the garage. Welding is much easier that way.
Hi Nick! I have 220 but I went with the smaller welder for portability (and cost). But you’re right! Thanks for watching!
Hi, what motorcycle is that and model please
Hi. 2019 Yamaha MT-07. Currently for sale in southern NJ for $6200 if you’re interested 👍
email me at contactmcgtv@gmail.com.
Two types if tractor owners, those who have left their ROPS up and those who will eventually.
I haven’t hit the garage YET 🙏
@@MyClutteredGarage I have done it twice, both times I was tired, it was late when I got home from being on it all day and I just wanted it in the shop... no major damage tho.
No there's a third. Those who have a garage door taller than the ROPs. I fixed my ROPs so it can't be taken down without extreme effort. I can't say I'll never roll my tractor but I can say I'll never roll it without the ROPs in place.
For those who do not weld.

thank you!!! I was looking for those for my 4wheeler!! Thanks for the tip!!!
I’ve watched you weld a couple of times you welded on your bucket.
You removed the bucket from the tractor but never said why you should when welding or at least disconnect the battery. RD
Good point! Thank you!
I would have put the hooks on a plate , then welded them to the bucket , much stronger.
Good tip. Thanks for watching!
I feel your pain. I have destroyed more headphones jumping off the tractor than I care to remember.
I’m so much more careful now! Thank you for watching. -Ed
Disturbing image lol and you are not alone, my friend lol
Thanks for catching that :)
I’ve worked in broadcast television for 30 years. Even professionals tear up mic cables.
Thanks for your supportive comment, Michael. Please join me for the livestream tonight at 7pm Eastern if you can! -Ed
You didn't wrap your corners.
For a old man with hearing aids the music was so loud I couldn’t hear what you were saying.
Hi Wayne. If you’re talking about the short segment at 1:15, there was actually no dialogue during the music. But I’ll keep my music levels in mind going forward. I appreciate the feedback! -Ed
Welder lol your only as good as your grinder is. Best investment was my two grinders
If you would have reversed you weave you would have been happier with the results.. Still, it ain't gonna fall off.
Thanks very much. I’m definitely still learning and need more practice. I appreciate your comments. -Ed
R.I.P. microphone.
Haha! Thanks for watching and for paying close attention! 👍
