actually a pretty shallow sabermetric analysis. looking at WAR and OPS+ isn't exactly cutting edge. He got closest to his actual value when he talked about how putting Arraez in the 3 or 4 hole would have brought more value to the Padres than lead-off - yes, it would have, and that can be quantified, and it's real value. And the Yanks do need someone like that, who can consistently move baserunners from 1st to 3rd.
9:08 the situation he describes is actually the exact situation where being a high OBP guy is MOST important. If you are good at drawing walks and they are so intent on not walking you that it literally doesn’t matter how good at drawing walks you are, that means they’re throwing you fastballs down the middle. If they could paint corners and throw you breaking balls in the zone that don’t hang so reliably it doesn’t matter how good you are at drawing walks, they would’ve already been doing that. No matter how good you are or what your style of play is, if you’re an MLB hitter your stats on fastballs down the middle are going to be incredible. They’re going to be way better in every way (including BA) than the high BA low OBP guy they’re pitching to normally because they think they can get him to chase
Nobody seems to remember that Arraez played through a nasty hand injury for basically half of last year that really affected him, especially his pop. He'll be a better hitter next year healthy. Defence not so much
Mad Dog Madlock! Played on that "We Are Family" Pirates World Series team with Willie Stargell, Dave Parker, et al. My earliest baseball memory (as a 3 year-old).
He’s also possibly the worst fielder in all of baseball while being a slow, bad baserunner. I’d rather have the fielding and speed of peraza/cabrera for a year to be honest. Having 350 OBP in the lineup would be nice and all and they’ll be fine either way but I’ve bought into the fundamentals+speed+defense improvement mindset
Arraez used to be good in the Twins when he didn't chase and took walks. Now he's a free swinger and his only value is his contact and avoiding strikeouts. Not a good fit as a DH
Yeah Jake at 8:25 seems to think that hypothetically a hitter like Arraez can come up big in some situations that a slugging swing and miss hitter would struggle in. However in 58 career PA in the postseason Arraez has a .562 OPS. I think I’ll take the uncompetitive walk.
Arraez's skillset doesnt quite work for leadoff, he doest run the bases well. I thinkbhe would fit well on a Royals or Reds team that can put some speed on the bases in front of him. Get the most out of his singles.
Senga and Imanaga weren't what they were hyped to be? You mean the two ROTY finalists and first year all stars? Sure, did the cubs fall short? Yes. Was Senga hurt this year and could only show glimpses of last year's performance? Yes. But there's absolutely nothing suggesting they aren't as promised. Imanaga was 5th in CY, 137 era+, and overall a 3 WAR pitcher. He led the NL in SO/BB. What's not to like?
My issue with Arraez is literally does one thing well. It’s a great skill to have maxed out but if his sweet spot % dips even a little bit he’s a huge detriment to your team. People talk about how he doesn’t strike out but that’s because he sees like 2 pitches per at bat
Luis Arraez is a major upgrade at second than what we had with Torres, I watched his highlights and the kid hustles , he's a hitting machine. He might not be the best at defense but he's better than Torres at second, a better hitter and a better base runner.
Bro Arraez is not “a little more contact” the guys is a 3 time champion bat, 200+ hits, .400 OBP both leagues bro, gotta give more credit to the guy, it would be a great addition to the team
I’m just not sure the Javy Baez contract should or does play a factor for the Tigers. He’s the only large contract they even have currently, they can afford to spend more. As far as the fit goes, the Tigers don’t have a true 3B. Jace Jung doesn’t belong at that position and none of their incoming prospects are true 3B either. A RH bat that is a true and not to mention good 3B like Bregman, plus being a good veteran leader, makes all the sense in the world. I think those that don’t follow the Tigers just see Jace Jung slotted at 3B on Fangraphs and assume that’s good to go, and it’s just not.
I’d be interested if the yanks are like “well we got better defensively, better base running.” Maybe they think “man we will take the bath at 2nd defensively,” but round out the lineup. I’m ok with that
Might wanna update the date there, and topics
Why don't you do it?
Ata boy
"15, kind of round, kind of not at all".
Hard to describe how much I feel this
I consider it flat, not round
Made The Cut posted a video titled "How MLB’s Batting Champion Is One of Its Least Valuable Everyday Players" a couple of days ago. Spot on analysis.

BBD’s chuckle at the mention of the date lol

Yea that would explain why the ENTIRE TEAM went 24 scoreless innings 😂😂😂😂
Just found Jake this last year. Jake is a ROCKSTAR!!
Jake needs to eat his ranch.
Mad Dog Madlock! Played on that "We Are Family" Pirates World Series team with Willie Stargell, Dave Parker, et al. My earliest baseball memory (as a 3 year-old).
On Arraez, a .317 average vs a batter at .280 is only 1 extra hit every 16 at bats. Nice? Sure. Great? I don't know.
They have to do something because Peraza and LeMahieu aren't serious options.
Not to mention Arraez as a .318 hitter last season only got on base a measly .346

Arraez didn't do much of anything in the NLDS either.

Love the 90s-early 00’s family movie generic older brother look Jake is rocking today.
Feels like he’d fit right into a Frankie Muniz movie
Jake being infuriated at the fake Notre Dame was a highlight for me.

Profar to the Pirates is why i tune in lol
Doesn't Kim seem like an obvious fit for the Yankees? They can afford to wait for him to get healthy and then be their 3B or 2B...
Can’t sign Kim until they dump Stroman.
I think it would be Arraez, Bellinger, Judge, Goldschmidt, Stanton, wells, jazz, Volpe, Dominguez
Any news of D-Rob?
Bro Arraez is not “a little more contact” the guys is a 3 time champion bat, 200+ hits, .400 OBP both leagues bro, gotta give more credit to the guy, it would be a great addition to the team
Royals need to make some moves, would love to see Trout in KC
Why does it say December 18th, 2024? And Belli to the yanks?
I'm guessing because he didn't update it 🤷🏼♂️ but I could be wrong
I think you might need to update your date on the side there fellas
Oh wait it does 2/3s of the way through lol
3B that way he doesn’t need to have a lot of range. Jazz would be better at 2B since that’s his natural position
Would Jake ever go on All Da Smoke? That would be crazy
Soto is a Met 🙏
He only hit 314 with a torn thumb
I dont think so. Likely die in AZ. But who knows. 🤷
Wanted Arraez last year but not this year
Yeah I think I’d rather start with Waldo
Whos better at 3rd Arreaz or Devers

Can I get an Americas assistant GM shirt with Jakes face please!
ah yes today is indeed december 18th 2024
Jared
I want an Eugenio Suarez trade to the Yanks
Go Dodgers!
No Go Padres!
@@danegarcia457😂 ⁰ World Series.
420 blaze it Jeff Passan 🌲

I looked at the lineup on the right and clicked off the video.
Pussi
Arraez is the perfect DH. Stanton should've been traded by now.
Jake, eat yor ranch
