We are based in North Wales and manage around 150 colonies of bees, plus nucleus colonies.
We produce Great Taste Award winning honey and sell nucleus colonies to members of the public.
Our 6 frame overwintered nucleus colonies sell out very fast every year so early ordering is advisable.

We supply F1 Mated Buckfast and Jolanta Queens throughout the season. The UK Mated Jolanta Queens are reared using genetics used by the UK's biggest bee farmer - Murray McGregor - and are not available to general public, except through resellers like us! Check out our queens page on our website.

We are passionate about beekeeping and really enjoy helping beekeepers through our UA-cam channel.
On our channel you can find information on making splits with swarm cells, making increase with queen cells, grafting larvae, foulbrood and disease inspection, honey extraction and machinery, top tips for beginners, products reviews, instructions and guidance plus much more.
#NO NONSENSE BEEKEEPING is a UK based beekeeping channel, designed to keep beekeeping as simple and enjoyable as possible. There are no overly complicated techniques or intricate pieces of equipment.
We cover all beekeeping topics ranging from queen rearing, disease recognition/control, honey extraction, swarm management/collection, how to make splits and much more!
My personal favourite aspects of beekeeping are selecting queens for rearing, rearing queens for mating, making up nucs for overwintering and collecting swarms.
We aim to bridge the gap between commercial and hobbyist beekeepers and cater for beekeepers of all experience levels.

Hi Laurence mate, I do this same trick it really gets them to build new comb and I’m with you can’t stand gabled roofs on my hives I gave the two away I had.

Thank you Lawrence. I don't have a flow hive , but I'm going to try it on my langstroth hives. Thanks for sharing your videos with us. 🇺🇸

I’ll be trying this tomorrow on my long hive fitted with flow frames. Thank you for the advice.

Been looking forward to updates on your Flowhives thanks Laurence. A quick note on roof: if you're going to build a flat one bear in mind that the Flow roof has a removable wood strip for access to the "key holes" so unless you provide for that you'll have to harvest without the roof on which will attract bees to the process. Not a huge problem but something to consider.
My Flowhives are on two beams that allows me to span them with the upturned gable roofs which makes for a good working platform ;)

Thanks man! Just tried this on 2 of my standard box colonies that were refusing to move into supers.

Curious to see what flow hives look like. I've only seen the idyllic-looking ads, not the actual flowhive being used

Much the same as the ads but not always so sunny ;) There are many UK videos on UA-cam.

    Couple questions maybe
    not quite for flow hives.
Why didn't you just put honey frames in super? Then could add drawn comb/foundation to the brood nest - where abouts? This would help reduce swarming?
Alternatively put a couple brood above the excluder and leave honey frames.
Amongst all this I am thinking could look to replace a couple old frames.???
All the above actions are academic as here in Newcastle Aus, we are in total lockdown and widespread eradication in hope to control Varroa Mite. Bloody sad. May not be allowed to have bees again for a few years do will be interesting to see how gardens go. For all the drawn comb we have stored ready for Spring, how long would the wax be attractive to bees.

Does this technique work on a non-flowhive if they havent yet managed to draw out the foundation in the supers? I added a new super but they are quite slow to draw it out and are just back filling the brood box.
Do you have a recommendation for if you should add a super above or below existing supers, immediately above the broodbox?

    • @BlackMountainHoney
      @BlackMountainHoney  2 роки тому +1

Yep. It works but you just need strong colonies to get them to start working it alongside a flow. Either above or below makes little difference. Do whatever is easiest for the beekeeper

Can I ask as a side note what is longest you have left it to take honey supers off. Is mid August too late?

Can I use honey I harvested last year from them on my flow frames.

My colleagues and I have just gotten into beekeeping.
I recently had to add another super to the larger hive. When I was looking at the space in the lower super I rested some of the frames in the (then empty) new super. I decided to leave them in there and add fresh frames to the centre of the older one and did the same with the new one. I was fretting about it all week thinking I had done the wrong thing. but I checked earlier today and all but half of one of the new frames had been built out and filled with uncapped honey.
I am glad that it worked out and with hindsight it makes sense.
I am now just concerned that I will need to get my boss to order another super plus frames.

bamboo excluders are simply no good for UK bees, as the spacings are for a smaller Asian bee. take note.

regardless of sizing, they are useless. Drop of moisture and they warp anyway. No note required 😉

You are quite simply supporting stolen IP. You should delete this video and destroy the Chinese copy frames. An apology to the guys who’s work you’re supporting stealing would he appropriate as well.
