I'm a power company fleet mechanic and this video saved my butt with a bucket truck broke down on the side of the road at rush hour in Washington DC I can't thank you enough thank you
Bro idk how too tell you this but my truck is kinda doing the same thing... It wasn't easy like this but I noticed a lot of freightliners are going down right now because of a issue like this 😂😅
@@AcousticHills hey man!! Update It ended up being the TCM I was able to trick the BHM and had the truck idling for 2 hours while the TCM was chilling in the Ice Box then turned off the truck. Plugged in the TCM and everything was operating good Ordered the new TCM and Truck is running smoother then ever 😎
Had the same codes start only after sitting for a few minutes and wouldnt start after till system got cold , found bad fuse f3 , 10amp saved me time thanks
Crazy, a simple fuse. Going to go check mine now although not automatic, having the same intermittent no start issue. But I also have a clicking sound coming from my starter area too.
I’ve been getting a SPN: 2003 FMI: 19 code after my truck won’t start after I turn it off. It’s driving me nuts. I have a 2016 M2 106 Freightliner. I’ve checked and changed fuses and it’s left me stranded twice now until the engine gets cold and it fires back up. That’s sometimes 45 minutes to and hour and 30 minutes
Very good find. I did not realize that a loss of VSS points to a TCM not powering up. Good to know. BTW I have used one of those Bendix RDU's for a long time. Even built a long extension harness to take it into the engine compartment or under the truck when shaking wiring looking for intermittent power loss to a module.
An incandescent light bulb and a headlamp is also handy for placing electrical loads on wiring or fuses . Chinese fuses appear very low quality . Very WELL DONE DIAGNOSTIC CHALLENGE !
All of the sudden I'm getting a Eaton F17 code. Missing wire to starter solenoid. Truck cranks for 1 second thenTCU blocks it. Replaced the relay and code still active. I need to replace fuse 13 just in case. Always happens when truck loses air and it's cold outside. 2014 Cascadia with Eaton Fuller 13 ultra
Is this also for manual? I’ve check ground cleaned them up and also change batteries cables. Still intermittent starts and at some point start to crank for a sec then stops
I have a mack pinnacle cxu mp8 mDrive that turns off the engine while draving it, and abs, atc, and the ⚡ symbol starts flashing, the rpm indicator star going up and down. I stop on the side of the road, take the key out, give it a break to turn off the cluster and try to start it agan, some times it cranks and starts like nothing happened and other times it takes more tries. It happened to me today like 8 times in the road while draving. You think something like that could caus it? I have no idea whats wrong with it
Yea, sounds like you have an intermittent loss in power. Corrosion or rubbed thru wiring. If it gets worse, then you'll have to find the bad power circuit. Start with batter connections and work your way up
I have Exactly the same problem, I check the fuse. Not the ground with the outer place. The new fuses I most of users I change but I have Sam problem. The truck is not moving right now. It's not cranking transmissions, it's not connect. Not communication on the transmission even to the dashboard.
Hello. Freightliner Cascadia 2016 Auto. The truck won't start the tractor's ABS light is on and the DEF light is red Flashing No check engine light. The dashboard screen does not show the transmission message and the screen just stuck with Underscore marks.
Hey there. See if you can hook up to the ecm and see what the codes are. If you cant and it's not cranking. I would check for power and ground to ecm and tcm.

Hello! How about freightliner shut off while driving and check engine light come out? No crank no start. SPN 625 FMI 14. Fault was MCM system ID has stopped receiving or stopping. Any ideas?
Sounds like you're losing power to your MCM. with key-on, wiggle your relay/fuse centers at the firewall and harnesses. If you hear clicking and stuff turning off and on then you know you got bad wiring and you'll have to find what wire, fuse or relay causes this while getting wiggled. Good luck man, hope you get it.
.Freight liner cascadia 2018 stuck in manual mode wont start, found no power in the 21 pin connector at 1,2,3,4, and 6. Any idea? Could it be a TCM fuse

Check for codes in all modules, make sure they are communicating. If no codes and all modules are communicating, you need to see if your getting power to your 's' terminal on the starter solenoid while someone cranks. Then go from there
We are having similar issue on a 2016 KW T680 eaton 10spd automatic transmission. After replacing batteries with new ones engine wont start with key or even crank but will start by shorting the starter. Then it wont shift into gear. Truck has been parked for over 6 months was running before. We asked a guy who does diagnosis for trucks to check it out with computer, he diagnosed and said that the system is not detecting the TCM, and to replace the TCM. Have checked the fuse and looks fine, the voltage reads 12.5V. He says TCM must not have power. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!
Definitely check your power and grounds at the TCM, they'll be on the front connector if its an ultrashift tranny, the big round terminals on the corners. Then check ignition power circuit at TCM and j1939 datalink for CAn +/- voltage. Kenworths need a special adapter to hook up to the TCM or any other module (other then ECM), its a dumb idea on KW side. If all is good at the TCM, then yes you have a fried TCM.
I have the J1708/J1939 diagnostic thingy like you have and I also have the Ancel diagnostic tool and the first tool doesn't have any ECU and the Ancel shows no communication. Bit it acts like a start inhibit issue. I can jump the stater relay and it will crank but won't fire. Could it be the TCM like you say or power to it ? I've checked and double checked everything. Am I missing something ? It's kicking my ass for sure. Any info will be helpful....
With no TCM on the datalink, it will not start. It needs the TCM to tell the engine it's in neutral to crank. So if you have no TCM showing on datalink or you cannot connect to the tranny, I would definitely check for power and ground at the TCM. If you have good power, ground and datalink, then you have a bad TCM (which isn't uncommon).
I assume that even though the shift indication on the dash works to tell you which gear your in the TCM could still be bad ? Thanks for all the info greatly aides me in repairing this beast.@@AcousticHills
