yah I agree his tone with the emgs was so sterile and processed that it was hard to listen to. Thank God that Reinhold straightened out his tone bigtime.

lancekeltner Fully agree. Never liked his mid scooped EMG/CAE-tone. The crunchy rhythm his gettin from those Bogners nowadays really is the "tone in my head"

Johan Juhlin I have been using these exact same heads that he only builds for artists. I have owned several Ecstasy 101b's over the last 20 years, The 1998 model I have now is my favorite. The diagram, schematic and over all parts are different than a Ecstasy 101b that you order today. When you order one or if you do, make sure he builds the 101b with Rubicon Filter caps, 1% military spec parts and that the plate voltage is set to the originals. Mine is at 550 plate volts and the only tube I can run in it that can handle this enormous amount of plate voltage are the JJ E34L's. They can handle the higher plate voltage if you have or order a amp with these specs. I spoke to Charlie and he was totally unaware of these plate voltages, He said they run them at 500 plate volts now and that is most likely due to the quality of tubes by most manufactures. I still recommend JJ E34L's for long life, complex mids full bodied bass zero flub on the bottom end and sweet or shreddy high notes with incredible harmonic content, quick bloom and the feel of the amp beneath your fingers has elasticity without being mushy or too spongy. You can make the amp as stiff or spongy as you want but I have about 14 settings I have used on different peoples albums and you would not even believe these tones came from the same amp. There really isn't a amp on the market that can do so much. The one thing is that most people do not know how to dial them in so they get frustrated and sell it for a EVH head which is just stupid in my opinion. Eddie still has one of the Original Bogners that Reinhold traded for a few guitars. in the early to mid 80s. I have a S.L.O 100 that has been heavily modified by Mike Soldano. It has the Warren Haynes mod, The warren d martini mod and a few things that George Lynch asked for. He will tell you these mods do not exist because they are a total hassle and he just likes to build S.L.O's the way he originally designed them but their is more. The Bogner 101b beats my SLO. My Diezel V4 my Suhr and my Custom Audio. Carol ann amps and Splawn are not even in the same zip code. The Bogner is the tone you hear in your head because you can find ever bit of the rich harmonic overdrive with all even order harmonics and you can dial it in to have less wool and hair on the note like a good old 70s super lead marshall or a plexi bark. accept no imitations. Good luck!

I have seen Toto live in Sandnes/Stavanger Norway and I was blown away by his guitar sound. I saw that he payed 2 Ecstasys... 1 year later I have ordered an Ecstasy 20th Anniversary and I don´t regret it. The sound is just unbelievable. I have some of the best amps and preamps (Triaxis, Mark V, Engl E670, Hook Captain 34) and I would never sell them because they are just great but the Ecstasy beats all amps I have ever played. Thank you Reinhold for this amp...

He paid $0.00 for all of those. I don’t know why they have the charge so much for these amps. It sounds great but even even if you can afford the amp it’s still hard to justify spending months and months worth of rent or a down payment on a car on just an amp head alone never mind a stack. Make something people can afford and you’ll sell a lot more. They shouldn’t be just for the rich

I Had the pleasure of using a friend of mines Bogner Ecstasy for about a month while my Boogie Rectifier was being repaired.
AND OH My F N GOD!! WHAT A MONSTER HEAD!! And, I have to say, the tone I had dialed in was way better than what Steve has in this video by far. By FAR!! His tone sounds muddy and fuzzy to me except the clean tone.
Maybe Steve is loosing his hearing?
The Bogner Ecstasy had crystal cleans, nice cleany crunch, and an absolute ass beater chunk and incredibly smooth gain. A clean but dirty gain. 0 fuzz in the gain. Just balls!! Overtone balls!!
Drive it hard and get the tubes nice and hot and you could hold a note for an hour..Best tones I’ve ever dialed up in 40 years of playing. I mostly play heavy rock/metal, some drop tuning stuff also, and for the drop c stuff, it blew away my boogie.. I didn’t wanna give it back. It was $3,500 for the 100 watt head, but it had tone like it should’ve cost $10,000.
A Bogner Ecstasy is a BAAAD ASS AMP!!!
Capable of so so much more than demonstrated in this video.

His tone back in the day when "Rosanna" was a new tune, that's when his tone was the best. What did he use? Marshall Plexis and the legendary JCM800. Right now, the Studio series 20/5w amps are coming down in price and will one day be worth a fortune, probably more than their 100w big brothers precisely because they don't need to be cranked to sound good.
A smart collector will buy the SV20, SC20 (JCM800) and the 20w version of the JTM45. In 10 years, those amps will be priceless.

Luke sounds like a 15 yr old kid: still stoked to be playing and showing off what he can do. That's pretty cool really! Those amps aren't really my thing, and I really loved Lukather's sound when he was just playing strats and Les Pauls into modded Marshalls....but I really dug that. Nothing cooler than a grown man playing through a rig that makes him sound happening. That's universal, and his rig really brought out his personality. Probably helps that he's somewhat legendary, what a dude.

MusicMan Luke The most important thing I would like to do over is: SING LEAD as much as possible. Start now, you will be terrible in the beginning, take vocal lessons and get better. Practice singing as much as possible! Demand to sing at least 2 songs LEAD Vocals per set and join a band and stick with them do not think that there is a better band somewhere else. Bands are hard to be in and it is a give an take thing, stick it out. Practice guitar and singing. Singing is more important as you can practice guitar when you are finally alone. Do this and you will be valuable to ANY band. Get an amp that has a great clean then get a distortion pedal and maybe the green Line 6 Delay Modeler. Then later when you NEED a better rig and can afford it, then go shopping. You will not get the gig because you have great gear, you will get the gig if you sing great and play some decent guitar or perhaps great guitar, be Versatile!! Never argue with any musician in a band environment EVER. Let the other guy be the AHole. ;-)
      Maximum Respect LW

I'm in a Toto coverband and running a (slow) project alone and I find your suggestions amazing.
Thank you from the deep of my heart, right now I'm lead singing the songs that Lukather sings with Toto (they're more than 2) but yeah, I found the EXACT thing you said: when I'm alone at home I sing great (more or less), on the microfone I sound terrible. .I have to get used and to PRACTICE.
As regarding gear, fortunately I have some goodies :) I make some money teaching guitar
Have a real good day my friend!
