Ash I must say Reuben is a very stylish gentleman. I agree with your observations about the pant length and I would say that the first jacket was a little tighter than I would wear but I am not a young man anymore. Reuben you really are a smart and stylish dresser and love how you accessorize. The Seiko presage watch is an excellent choice. Thank you sir for sharing your photos. Ash, could you do a video on hopsack cloth jackets? Very best regards Ron

One thing I love about this is his use of color with the navy/dark blue items. Shoes, watch, ring, jacket, and hat, all contrasting with the lighter tie, shirt, and most noticeably the trousers.
    That’s an impressive feat imo.

The first outfit is pretty sharp, though I do see a couple issues. As Ash noticed, the horizontal creases look like he was careless with his clothes, and should have been touched up before the pics. Especially since he was taking pics.
The next is the tie and shirt combination. Here again, Ash has noticed the issue, and offered his advice on how to avoid the problem. But there is genuine decorator theory behind this.
As Ash offered, you could simply make one of the items patterned and the other plain. This would work fine, but you have more options. Mixing patterns is doable as long as you follow some simply rules. Mix floral with geometric, mix small scale with large scale, and mix complex with simple.
So in Reuben's case we have two small scale geometric patterns that clash. Even to the untrained eye it looks funny. A large paisley print tie would look great, being careful to pull out the big colors of the shirt and jacket with small similar colors in the tie.
At first look I thought the navy shoes were too dark for this tropical weather day outfit, but it got better as I realized how many navy touches he had in the outfit. The choice of double monks is edgy, which helps a bit, though I am not really a fan of any buckle shoes unless you're an 18th century reenactor.
Tying it all together with accents of navy works in this case, especially if it is for some fashion related event. If not, then I'd tone it down, but shifting to a Panama hat and something much lighter for the shoes. Light blue suede brogues, brown loafers, or even espadrilles.

To echo Pete's view. Rueben is so well turned out and in command of his style. I suspect these are not mistakes but more likely sprezzatura cues. A bit like Bond having the odd drink too many. A splendid turn out and good to get insight as to where he chooses to apply each outfit. Bravo Sir!💯

He looks very good but for me they are to many details and accessory. The ring, the watch, cufflink, pocket square, the small fox, the hat.. its only my opinions but i don’t really like when it looks too perfect and with too many things, often its better to look discreet.

Ohhh, nice, I'm a great fan of this Feature!
    Welcome back Ruben!
And a beautiful summery combinations this is - love the double breasted jacket and Not in navy but a lighter blue, I have one like it myself, maybe go full naval style and change to brass Buttons?
And the navy double monkstraps look awesome, almost got a pair myself but decided for a mid-brown pair with brouging, essentials on a coin toss. 😉
Not much to Saya about the Rest, it's awesome, but the Fedora in navy is something of note - again, got one in navy myself (and what hat do I *not* also have? I have over 40 by now...🙄) but rarely wear it except with a navy three-piece and even then grey ist more likely to win... now I have another inspiration on how to wear it - thanks!
(And the beautiful pocket square also demands a nod!)
Not much say about the more casual outfit except that it essentially reverses the colour scheme of the more formal one and looks awesome in doing this!
As to the final ensemble: a grey double breasted linen jacket is always a great start... and it's also the end because this is pretty much the first outfit in spirit made so much more formal by the simple change of jacket colour! Great Illustration of the was colour alone can change so much!
So thank you Ruben for offering this inspiring look at your choices and thank you Mr. Jones for another lovely feature making my morning commute *so* much netter😉.
    Best regards

I really liked the first outfit, but I do have to say I think I'd have paired it with a Toquilla-straw Panama hat. A blue felt Fedora, like blue suede shoes, is something only a very few men can carry off successfully.
      Best wishes and mucho respect!

@@vrdrew63 As you implied: It's use is limited - I bought it on a whim (consider me a hat collector so I got it to have one...) and have as of yet not found a true use for it, so I'm pretty happy to have this suggestion because here it looks great - the problem is also that I won a gazillion of grey and grey patterned suits but only a single navy suit for the colder seasons, most of my blue stuff is summery, so I'm very happy to have this inspiration - *In general* I would not buy one a second time but as I said: here it looks great^^.

I find the attention that Ash and Reuben have spent on their ensembles quite intimidating and impressive. It's rare to find a level of tailored attention that one spends the time & effort on. For the right occasion, fine couture speaks volumes and affords the wearer an air of respect. Ash, your suit, tie and jacket combo for this video is impeccable. Gosh, the dry cleaning bills must be terrible though. I'll follow the tip on the type of shirt to pair with a tie. Personally, I never made that connection.

His shoes need to invite his trousers down for tea ,they are at half mast. The rest of the garb & titfer gives out some kind of new age spiv or pimp daddy vibes . If that’s being with it , I am glad I am without it , he’s got a sense of humour I will give him that . 😎

Reuben is a class dresser, well done!
I especially like the fedora hat which is very masculine on him with the beard and sunglasses. Reuben’s take on the shirt-tie combo is very Italian and I think it works nice. This is very much the style one would see at a Fusaro’s shop window in Milan. Bold and tastefully flashy, yet without being too extravagant.
One advice if I may, I see that Reuben is following the Italian trousers length. I think a slight longer brake would do him well - but of course that’s just my own preference.

Any thoughts on wearing a shawl collar Cardigan sweater under a sport coat? Do you feel that the collars from both tend to clash? I've seen many figures rock it really nicely although I understand that a regular Y-Neck looks smoother. I'm not really into sweater vests right now but perhaps will give them a chance.

In the days of British Rail there used to be an elderly news paper seller at the main Suffolk Station I used to commute from.
He had a military badge on his coat lapel that I could not recognise .
Decades later I visited Parham, Suffolk control tower, which had a museum next to it dedicated to the Auxiliary’s (British Resistance set up to fight Nazis in 1940, if they landed in the U.K)
In a glass cabinet was this newspaper’s seller badge .
Since then always had a keen observation on lapel badges

Second outfit is fine, as is the third, though not without minor issues. Reuben should get some walnut colored shoes, and some shoes other than monk straps. Dark shoes are so formal. The navy in the first outfit made sense because of all the navy accents in his outfit, but the black pair in this last outfit look too dark, and lack imagination. Black is the most overrated color in menswear, and a mistake in most of the day outfits I see.
Again, I'm a bit prejudiced against buckle shoes, but even taking that into account, there's too much metal in monk straps, and they look too formal for a bright tropical outfit. Here he could use loafers. These work better for simple summer elegance, especially when worn without socks.
And the last thing is the garnishes. He's got too much going on in the accessory department. That voluminous pocket square, and the Winchester collar, that lapel pin crosses the line for number of accessories, as well as how much attention they draw. In writing this I was tempted to use the word "flair," but I'm not sure if that movie reference is too obscure. (Office Space).
But all in all a very good dresser, who likely shows better than most of the people he'll encounter in today's world.

by today's standards Ruben is a awesome dressed chap, just great! However, by old high standards of Sean Connery, Roger Moore & Co. Ruben is just cocky and ridiculous, someone who is obviously trying too hard.
Anything Ash mentioned is true plus:
jacket too small, too short, too tight,
double breasted jackets get done all buttons; undone lower button only for single breasted (google e. g. pics of prince/king Charles for reference)
    ALLWAYS wear Socks, ALLWAYS!
blue isn't an appropriate colour for formal leather shoes, in combination with extravagant double monk even worse, just cocky
hat is silly and doesn't suit to the summer weather / outfit
shirts with such broad stripes as on the 1st pic are usually worn by butchers
    yellow tie is a no-go
again, plenty room for improvement, but nevertheless much better than 99% of the guys out there today
