I'm in this promo ad whatever you wanna call it cause i was one of the orphans in the play and i was best friends with one of the artful dodgers its crazy when i watch it back like 6 years later... the memories
I took my ten year old Grandson to see this on 4th January. It was his Christmas present. The entire show and stage production was unbelievable. Yes, the tickets were expensive but worth every penny. "Best Christmas present I have ever had" retorted Sam." Mine also Sam". Wonderful. Breathtaking.
+legit934 Too many child actors, child labor laws are insane, making the show impractical to mount on Broadway these days - unfortunately. Cameron Mackintosh has tried...
Actually, I have read that the problem isn't child labour laws, which are quite lenient in the state of New York compared to the UK, but the fact that child actors on Broadway must be members of Actors' Equity and must therefore be paid a minimum wage of more than $ 1000 a week. Child actors in the West End are paid considerably less. In the production of Oliver! this video is from, if an article in a British newspaper is to be believed, Olivers and the Artful Dodgers were paid £ 60 for each show, the members of Fagin's gang and the other members of the team (playing in - for example - Who Will Buy) £ 35 for each show and the so-called coach kids, who only played in the workhouse scene, £ 17 for each show. Cameron Mackintosh wants to fill the stage in the workhouse scene with children and so he needs a lot of them. Each show at Drury Lane in London had 49 child actors (1 Oliver, 1 Artful Dodger, 10 members of Fagin's gang, 21 other members of the team and 16 coach kids). If you do some calculations, you will find out that child actors on Broadway would cost at least three times more than child actors in the West End. If the minimum wage on Broadway is actually $ 1500 a week, child actors in Oliver! would cost five times more...
+bradley I think it depends on what you mean by a "huge success." Matilda on Broadway wasn’t a flop, but it wasn’t very profitable either. It ran only for about three years. The costs were too high. There’s a reason why in the West End Matilda has run for about seven and a half years and will probably continue to run for some more time. It’s much cheaper to run a show with a huge number of child actors in the West End than on Broadway in spite of the fact that you must have at least three child actors for each child role: West End producers don’t have to pay child actors so much money.
Brilliant film,/ musial I haven't seen the stage play it looks fantastic hopefully I'll go and see it soon loved Ron Moody's and Oliver Reed's in the original film and the rest of the cast.
I was 6 when this came out and went to see it at The Odeon at Camberwell Green London with my brother and my friend Tony. Absolutely fantastic film. Never could their be anything better.
saw this today for the first time, tickets are expensive but 100% worth it, the set was amazing and well detailed, it followed the film closley for people that have never read the book it even had a few extra songs which was good, i must say though kerry ellis in it today played an amzing nancy better than the lady in this video. and oh my gosh the kids that play the orphans and fagans gang are the cutest thumbs up to them!
I went to see this on Moday and paid £17 per ticket, got upgraded to the stalls, result row L Great show, massive cast, Dodger was brilliant, Fagin was Russ Abbot and Nancy Kerry Ellis. Really good production and the scenery and set movement are genius. I would love to see behind the scenes of this one Its a must see.
They give away the end! It looks so epic with that set! But then you see the "Who Will By Set" and your like...is this a high school play? Lol, but oohhh myyy gooooddd soooo eppppiiicccc!
@melody4287 No, Annie is like Oliver! Oliver!: 1960 Annie: 1977 Or if you want to go back to the source material: Oliver Twist: 1838 Little Orphan Annie: 1927
It's weird to see the English version because I've seen it in the Flemish edition years ago. Just by watching this video all the memories of then all come back. It feels strange to see that all the songs, costumes and decors are the same.
@IntroducingKlara had hij ook in het midden van de show gespot met het publiek? :p hy deed dat by ons en da was lachen xD : vanvoor zitten de rijken... en vanachter de armen! xD
Seen it 30 times the past 2 years plus the opening and in January the last show! Amazing production, which could have been massive for years to come it it had stars like Rowan Atkinson and had Jodie still there! Shame that we'll have to deal with Shrek now in that huge theatre!
WarCatLove I did it too. All you have to do is, while you are watching his scenes, say his lines with him and with the accent! That's what I did, and I got the role!
This was fantastic and is a great effort to the 1968 Movie, Bravo!!!!!
I Love Oliver! The West End Musical Broadway 😀❤️😃😍💖💝
FANTASTIC! I was cast as Mrs. Bedwin at my high school in 1983
