  • The sub-$100 IEM market is uber competitive, and Dunu just upped the ante with the new Titan S2, an $80 IEM that has the build quality and accessories package you'd be lucky to find in the $1,000 market. No joke. But does it sound good enough to back that up? Does it even matter? Let's talk about it.

    Even just buying a set of Dunu S&S tips sets you back $13, so you could see it as a $67 set with three sets of eartips plus a bonus set of S&S tips, so already this seems like a better value than the OG Titan S even when that set is on sale. Any way I think about it, this is raising the standard for $80 IEMs

    • @Silence-and-Violence
      @Silence-and-Violence 8 днів тому +2

      Yeah, the cable and tips alone made it worth it.
      If it sounds about as good as the original with an interchangeable tip cable and all those tips, it's a great deal and might become my go-to gift IEM for my non-audio friends.

    • @jacobbarfield7828
      @jacobbarfield7828 8 днів тому +1

      Slight side-question: Do the S&S tips fit the original Titan S well? I’ve been thinking about getting the triple-size pack of S&S for my Titan S cause it seems that I need a deeper fitting tip for a good seal. And if they do fit it well, how does it change the sound? Thanks!

    • @StartCodonUST
      @StartCodonUST 8 днів тому

      @@jacobbarfield7828 Ooh, I don't know myself. I've demoed Titan S in the past, but not sure about the tips. I have Dunu SA6, which has a very different nozzle that doesn't have any tip retention, which both the Titan S and the Titan S2 have. The S&S tips stay on the SA6 nozzles better than my other favorite tips like Azla Crystal and Spinfit W1 (I tend to prefer tackier tips which are more prone to falling off nozzles), but that's my main reason for using them. For me, they achieve good fit stability for tips that aren't quite as tacky as others. I also put the S&S tips on my Kefine Delci for a deeper fit and more fit stability. I don't really pay attention to sound changes due to tip rolling though.

    About those balanced cable, I do agree they’re unnecessary for almost every IEMs.
    First off, both IEMs and Headphones will never make use of the electrical noise rejection feature of balanced cables because nobody uses 10m/30ft cable lengths with these.
    Having said that though, I personally like balanced cables for full sized headphones because they allow more power with low power usb dongles. That’s a useful side benefit.
    One the other hand, what would be really good for IEMs are low impedance cables. Given that some IEMs only have 8 ohms impedance, a cable with < 0.2 ohms impedance would be lovely

  • @noctisarcanus7894
    @noctisarcanus7894 6 днів тому

    I'm trying to choose between these and the Truthear Hexa as my first IEMs (I'm also ordering a Shanling M0 Pro as my first DAP since I don't like dongles and I want to listen to my FLACs with no distractions). I don't have any cables, case nor tips so the Dunu S2 is tempting but the Hexa seems like a better choise for its neutral tuning and it seems better for vocals but I don't know, I'm a complete newbie. What would you recommend in that price range in my case? S2, Hexa or another one?

    • @UnKnownv5
      @UnKnownv5 4 дні тому

      Hexa is entry level benchmark for neutral tuning, first titan is $20 to $25 cheaper and has slightly worse technicalities but difference in frequency response may warrant choosing them over hexa.

    Do you do any burn-in on the review IEMs - or graph and listen right out of the box? A few I have sounded smoother on the treble after a period of a few days of use. Another reviewer runs a week of burn-in before a review. I wonder if it is worth it.

      The only burn-in i believe in is the brain burn-in. At first, your brain is not accustomed to the new presentation and sensations, so new products sound a little bit off or rough but after a day or two (in my case, at least) it goes away. When you've been using only one pair of headphones for a long time, getting used to something new may take even longer.
