We’ve finally got our hands on the new Audi S3, so you know what that means… It's hot hatch drag race time!
We’ve got the new S3 going up against the BMW M135i and AMG A35, and once you look at the stats, you'll realise it's too close to call!! All three have 2-litre turbocharged petrol engines, they’re all automatic, and they’ve all got AWD.
But that’s not all! Even their power outputs are almost identical. While the Audi S3 can produce 310hp, both the A35 & M135i can produce 306hp. And when it comes to torque, both the Audi & AMG can put down 400Nm, while the BMW has 450Nm!

@@TheTechGiantUA-cam absolute rubbish. The a45 is a horrible chav car and is a silly price with nothing special about it, it ps just a tuned 2 litre. From a modified perspective it’s very limited, max really is 500bhp, the rs3 can go over 1000bhp. Interior of the a45 is dreadful.
Understeer on the rs3 is ver6 small. In fact the a45 is worse for fo4 understeer

The most stupid thing about it is that the old M140 which had the monstrous B58 engine had a starting price or around 30 grand which was the same as the golf R and S3, and that car used to bully the other two. Makes no sense this M135i 🤦♂️

In 1987ish the first bmw 750 was launched with a 5 liter v12 and that thing had 300hp and 450nm... We have come a long way especially since forced induction became mainstream
Nice one again. But I am curious: Which tires did the cars have? The breaking test was more of a test for those than for the cars themselves with this weather...
Matt, you should do a R53 GP1 / R56 GP2 / F56 GP3 drag race, or maybe just the regular mini cooper S versions of all 3.
There’s not much point in manual mode if you don’t actually have to change gear...
All it means is, you can override the automatic upshift. Which in a sense is "manual".
Absolutely it’s rubbish, since the gearbox will always shift before you you ask it manually. Destroying fun of going towards the red red line, when you want to.
Also you can short-shift easily, shifting at the same time or just after the gearbox. Not so clever manual option.
@@205500830 It shifts to the next gear only at the red line. Why stress the powertrain for nothing? Most of these cars have limiters and the car would not go past the rev limit anyways. See what happened to the BMW. Audi's approach is the most efficient here. You can still manually change the gear before the red line if you want to but when you hit the red line and you don't change it, the car does it. Clever manual mode. My 2005 Audi A6 does the same and I love it.

Same with Jaguar , it would automatically shift up before limiter.
In my RS3, if I enter manual mode by using a paddle, then trans will still shift up. If I enter manual mode by pushing gear lever to left, then I will bounce off limiter. My standard sequence is therefore pull back on lever to enter Sports mode, push lever to left to entry manual. I hope this helps.

The A35 ground clearance is only 113mm. Any lower and you'd never get it over a speed hump.

@@KK001 I hope Audi comes out with performance versions of the RS6/7. To be honest it's not the reviewers fault because Audi doesn't have a performance model for their new cars. An interesting race would be the 2016/17 RS7 performance vs the new RS7.

I've recently had 2 races , in my focus RS , one from a dig against a bmw340i and a rolling race with an audi tts. I caned the bmw but the audi gave me a hiding. Would love to see you race these 3 and the outcome. Thanks for the show !

This is regarding all break tests not this particular one: Have you ever thought of an external signal like a red light to tell everybody when to stop? There are some drivers that break a little early, because there's different opinions regarding when they cross the line. Just a thought.

Always like hatchbacks. I think they are practical, stylish and offer enough performance to put a smile on your face. Always like the Audi's hatchbacks and this S3 is much improved inside and out.

I´m not sure about the english word for it, but it would be interesting how the cars would perform on a motor power teststation. VW & Co. are famous for having more power than officially announed, especially the cars for tests. I remember the last versions of GTI which have about 40hp more than it should have. So every tester says "Wow, it´s very fast for the (announced) HP".
