    His perspective on money when it comes to the band is really rather respectable and humble. His policy on meet and greets is actually one of my favorite things he’s ever said. Essentially says - instead of collecting money through a 3rd party for someone to meet you, ask them for $25 in person anytime they come up to you - and see how that makes you feel, as it’s the same exact thing. Paying for a brief and standard human interaction is inherently wrong and narcissistic.

      While dont get me wrong, i agree with the points, meet and greets are only brief for the fan, but it is quite long for the artists. Imagine having to go thru hundred, if not thousands, of fans to come up to you and take pictures. Not really a connection. Id say ban meet and greets altogether

      I agree! That's why I've never paid for meet and greets, honestly I've been waiting for days to meet my favourite bands in front of their hotels (not in a stalker kind of way but when I knew they used to normally come out to meet their fans as a traditional thing) and they were always so much sweeter than what I've head from meet and greets where people spent thousands for having to stand ten feet away from them to have one photo taken. I got hugs for free :)

      I disagree with the view on M&G. It's expensive to make music and tour. When you reach a level of mainstream success, these comments make sense, but for smaller artists , it's often a critical way they make touring affordable.

      This is exactly what i thought, I come from a low paying family so I understand money situations since I’ve lived and is living through it now, but people who have money personally I feel that they don’t have a big understanding of how money should be used and that there are people who can’t afford a lot of things, so artist and other topics that relate to money should be more aware of the costs and how it effects people in lower class, and the fact that matty understands that makes me love him even more because it shows he is a real person with consideration and awareness but I just love him because he is himself weather that be cocky or outspoken but it’s him and he can do whatever he wants

    • @logkmusic5877
      @logkmusic5877 Рік тому +26

      It’s called supply and demand and that’s how business works. If the demand is higher to see an artist and people are desperate and willing to pay that much, scalpers WILL take advantage of that by buying the cheap tickets, flip them around and sell them for sometimes triple or quadruple the price or even more. And that’s not fair to fans. No offense intended for The 1975, but they aren’t anywhere near as popular as Taylor Swift was during her tour sale and currently is (at least not to my knowledge and not in the US, pretty well known and successful no doubt). The best thing to do is search out loyal and dedicated fans and secure them tickets, which Taylor and many artists have done. His heart and intent is in the right place but offering cheap tickets can sometimes do more harm than good.

    • @anisanurraudah8383
      @anisanurraudah8383 Рік тому +38

      First of all, it's worth it. Who else in the world would play 44 songs with full on choreography and 16 costume changes for over 3 hours set in a tour? Second, what do you mean parents? Most swifties are millenial in their mid twenties who already got their own money to go to the tour. Stop living in 2010 saying swifties are consist of 13 years old teenagers.

      @ElectricBlueSwirl True but the same fans would’ve been quite different had he charged like rates back then. She has a lot of performers with her dancing usually and they all have to be paid proper wages. Then there's all the crew. I would be happier with higher prices as long as we knew damn sure the money was going to pay proper wages to the people involved and not just making companies like ticketek rich.

    I know the band gets pretty much no say in ticket pricing but it really killed me to spend $160 Canadian to see them in Vancouver. I paid it, and I'd do it again, but I'm with Matty on this. No ticket should ever be more than $50. Same with merch. It's absolutely bonkers that they're asking $65 for a T-shirt. Even with all the costs associated with printing, distributing, and selling tens or hundreds of thousands of shirts, I think it's totally ridiculous that they cost that much. But that's why my closet is full of local band shirts anyway so 🤷‍♂️

    I know that not everybody likes Matt Rife, but his stance of the tickets for his show was pretty respectful. For his world tour, he encouraged his fans to NOT but from 2nd hand sales (they were £200+). He said he'd rather perform to empty seats and the 2nd hand ticket sellers be out of pocket. I paid £30 to see him in Manchester in 2023. He tries to keep his tickets as low as possible.

    Only rich kids are allowed at concerts. It’s just the way it is. Poor kids are left out of the live music scene.

    Thank you for saying this ! Pricing is ridiculous !! Goo goo dolls are also realistic about this !! Could afford to pay and take my son to see them !! Waiting to get hands on the1975 tickets on uk … not much luck though 😢

    And that’ll last only about a year. Next year they’ll be charging $200-$400 as the production gets bigger and bigger

    Agreed. And I very much feel this way about retro gaming. I wish prices stayed low so anyone who wanted to can enjoy Silent Hill 2, Super Mario Bros., a GameCube etc.

    One of my favourite stories is how The Clash used to sneak people into venues for the shows. Cause they didnt give a shit about the money side of things. Im sure loads of bands have similar things back in the day.

    I agree. But still, Taylor’s shows have a significant larger budget than the 1975 so it would make sense for her to charge more… ticketmaster is a scam anyway
