His perspective on money when it comes to the band is really rather respectable and humble. His policy on meet and greets is actually one of my favorite things he’s ever said. Essentially says - instead of collecting money through a 3rd party for someone to meet you, ask them for $25 in person anytime they come up to you - and see how that makes you feel, as it’s the same exact thing. Paying for a brief and standard human interaction is inherently wrong and narcissistic.
While dont get me wrong, i agree with the points, meet and greets are only brief for the fan, but it is quite long for the artists. Imagine having to go thru hundred, if not thousands, of fans to come up to you and take pictures. Not really a connection. Id say ban meet and greets altogether
I agree! That's why I've never paid for meet and greets, honestly I've been waiting for days to meet my favourite bands in front of their hotels (not in a stalker kind of way but when I knew they used to normally come out to meet their fans as a traditional thing) and they were always so much sweeter than what I've head from meet and greets where people spent thousands for having to stand ten feet away from them to have one photo taken. I got hugs for free :)
I disagree with the view on M&G. It's expensive to make music and tour. When you reach a level of mainstream success, these comments make sense, but for smaller artists , it's often a critical way they make touring affordable.
This is exactly what i thought, I come from a low paying family so I understand money situations since I’ve lived and is living through it now, but people who have money personally I feel that they don’t have a big understanding of how money should be used and that there are people who can’t afford a lot of things, so artist and other topics that relate to money should be more aware of the costs and how it effects people in lower class, and the fact that matty understands that makes me love him even more because it shows he is a real person with consideration and awareness but I just love him because he is himself weather that be cocky or outspoken but it’s him and he can do whatever he wants
