      @@sonofthg I’m not a Boston fan but I am a hockey fan first and foremost and then I’m a NY Isles fan. From what my eyes tell me Pasta has excellent hockey IQ and can do it all. He’s a really good skater, I would argue his shot and hockey IQ are his two best assets. Oh, and wellness to play the physical game, along with the speed game. That’s why he excels in the playoffs because he’s willing to commit to being physical. Unlike say… Adam Fox or an Artemi Panarin. My question to you is (because I only watch Boston when they beat the snot out of the Rags or when they play the NY Isles) Why has he been more inconsistent now than he was a few years ago? Is it be this role on the team has changed? I love the guy, he’s an awesome NHL player.

      @kenduffy5397 i think (these are guesses) that it has to do with 1) physical health (he was injured in the offseason), 2) lack of offseason training and probably the most important thing is 3) no quality linemates relative to the perfection line w bergeron and marchand, or even krejci

      @ Thank you and I do agree with you about him (and I was the same exact way when I played at school) I was not the most committed person as far as offseason training goes because as the season gets longer, he gets better and better and better. He’s a REALLY good player, a clutch player too! Thanks for getting back to me.

      @ I am not a Soccer fan and unfortunately, my son who has watched & played soccer his entire life is 28 years old and is in Vermont skiing ⛷️ with his girlfriend right now. But I’ll do my best to try to answer your question. In the NHL, AHL, CHL, KHL etc. All these goaltenders get paid by their save percentages. There are also loads of bonuses (just like a skater who makes 5 to 7 million more if scores 35 goals compared to scoring 30 goals) Same deal with goalies and their save%, shutouts, and games won, making the playoffs is a big bonus for (not all) but most of players on a team and then they have bonuses for how well they play in the playoffs and making the ECF and WCF and SC, it’s all about money! I’ve seen Patrick Roy pull his goalie with 6 minutes left in the 3 period and down by 2 goals. But he’s a retired HOF NHL goalie who’s won 4 Stanley Cups playing for Montreal and Colorado. So Lou gives him more rope to pull a goalie than he would any other HC. The Islanders sucked, they just started playing well and that’s because the team has bought into letting our really good goalie see the puck, and keep everything to the outside, especially on the PK. It comes down to contracts and money, period. That goalie who let in all those goals last night for the Rangers? Is going to be the highest-paid goalie in the NHL next season. So his HC had to stop Igor’s save percentage from going any further into the toilet! It was all about Igor’s save% nothing else, because the game was already over!

    It’s their play style and their personnel is the problem. Laviolette changed them to man to man. And a guy like Fox and even Lindgren can’t excel at that style. None of their D corps can. They need to play zone and play their position and be more free to jump and anticipate a play instead of just worry about their man - so they can utilize their skills. Also if they can add a big D man on the left side. Like maybe a Logan Stanley or even better a guy like Niko Mikkola who they had a few years ago they could bounce back and contend for a cup

    • @Mike___Honcho

      gimmick hockey never works and zone hockey is gimmick hockey. however, you CAN coach better defensive technique and positional play. hockey will always be man to man.

    • @EDDYEAGLE
      @EDDYEAGLE 4 дні тому +1

      @ man to man is a new concept man. Think of when you were a kid playing. No coach ever told you to go chase a guy all the way to the blue line because he’s your man. No winger chased a guy all the way to the defensive zone corner because he’s their man. It makes no sense. And why would you have a little guy do that. That’s why the pick n roll in basketball was made. So you can get a 7 footer on a 6 footer and dominate him. What’s the point in having a big 6’6 defenceman if he’s chasing his man up by the blue line instead of clearing the front of the net?

    • @Mike___Honcho
      @Mike___Honcho 3 дні тому

      @@EDDYEAGLE you don't seem to have a good understanding of defensive responsibilities for players, or terminology. man to man means that you are responsible for one player and not a piece of ice, as teams seem to like to do currently in the NHL. when one team has a three minute 5 on 5 offensive zone possession, that means that the D has collapsed into a box, similar to the PK box, and is covering ice and not players. that is zone defense, like the defensive backs in football covering a piece of the field, and not a receiver, until he sees where the ball is going. in hockey, man to man does not mean you follow a guy everywhere. you follow him where he is dangerous. if he crashes the net, you stick like glue. if he goes to change up, you let him go. you see so many tip goals from the slot these days because offensive forwards are able to get their sticks free. they pass through the zone coverage without being touched and get tips on the goalie. if you play man to man on a guy in the slot, you will be trying to get position on him AND tying up his stick. zone hockey is gimmick hockey. all it does is change one set of vulnerabilities for another. the panthers play very little zone and mostly man to man. instead of falling into a 5 on 5 defensive box in their own end, they go after the guy with the puck and FORCE him to move it. that is man to man. they pressure the puck constantly instead of playing a passive defense that waits for the offense to make a mistake. these NHL forwards are too skilled to play passive defense. you have to make them work for every pass. teams that play zone are puck watchers and they fall asleep watching the puck move around. they are asked to cover ice / area instead of a man, and then when the shot comes in they don't hit the forward hacking away at their goalie. zone hockey is passive no check pond hockey.

    J.T. Miller proved his worth by scoring two goals but overall it was a terrible game by the NY Rangers. Allowing 6 goals against can only be explained as a lack of effort by a team with aging players that not longer effective. Mika Zibanejad at a -23 has the worse stats of any NHL forward so why is he still in the lineup Mr Laviolette? Lindgren has a big heart but is now slow and not what he once was. K Andre Miller is a total liability. This team needs a big makeover.

    JT was a great player for the Canucks. I hope when he looks back he can see how he perhaps played some of his best hockey wearing a Canucks sweater. Rogers Arena will be different without the “JT Mill Er” chants. The fans always supported him and he’ll be missed. But it was time…

    Somebody below pointed it out below about hockey passing laviolette by and him not properly utilizing his D for zone instead of man. The comment should make it directly to rangers management. Completely accurate

    • @Mike___Honcho
      @Mike___Honcho 6 днів тому

      zone hockey came about because coaches thought it was safer than man to man, but you can't win if the other team has the puck. zone hockey is passive unwatchable no check pond hockey. it is better to teach your players defensive skills and better positional play than it is to teach them a counter intuitive system that goes against everything they have known for 15 years or more.
