As a person who has helped raise chickens I've seen the same hen lay nearly round and oval eggs depending on when fertilization happens. In fact we knew a round egg was usually a sign that that egg wasnt fertilized at all and that it was what my family called dropped batches. It was usually a sign that the hen was in between mating cycles.
