  • Well I've MIA for over 2 years, but your encouraging comments inspired me to come back and make yet another video- this time, about the Original Star Wars trilogy. Out of all of the Star Wars content out there, this trilogy is the least controversial and most beloved out of all of them, so it's all down hill from here. For now I watch and talk about the movies that started it all!
I'll try to upload more regularly in the future, so subscribe and stay tuned!

If you read shadows of the empire. It describes how Luke makes his light Saber. Very good book too. The book takes place after empire and before jedi of coarse. I grew up with the original trilogy. Always loved watching them. Even before the special edition came out. I worked at a movie theater when the special edition came out and we got episode 4. This was the time before you can buy tickets online so waiting in line at the box office was all there was. For the show that day or the day after. It Was sold out that whole weekend too. Empire is my favorite like most of the star wars fans. These movies are very dear to my heart and I have past them down to my own kids. And they love them just as much as I do.

That's so awesome! Being able to share things that were special to you as a kid with your kids is something special. My dad also loved the original trilogy growing up, and he introduced me to both the OT and the Prequels when I was a kid. Revenge of the Sith was the first PG-13 he allowed me to watch. I'll have to check out Shadows of the Empire. I'm recently trying to read more this year, since I stopped doing it much in high school. I will add it to the list! Thank you for the recommendation and for sharing your story!

40:54 Nooooooooo!!! Worse. Change. Ever. That was the whole point of Luke seeing his father’s face: so he’d recognise him as a Force ghost. I made the connection straight away as a kid. It’s in the eyes and the smile. I used to cry at the end. Now I’m just filled with rage. Thanks Lucas. 🤬

32:26 He originally *did* get to see his face again until Lucas replaced him in the Special Edition with Hayden Christensen, leaving him (and everyone else) to now wonder “Who the f*ck is that?”! 🤦‍♂️

I usually dislike the "call to action" that youtubers often make. But I must confess that I wouldn't have really subscribed if you hadn't mentioned it. I kind of forgot about that.

I disagree that the Jabba's Palace sequence is detached from the rest of the film. We're establishing Luke as a trained Jedi in that sequence. He tries to find a peaceful solution, and when that doesn't work, he demonstrates just why Jedi are so feared and respected. It's the first time in the series we get to see a Jedi in their prime, and he wrecks an entire criminal syndicate almost singlehandedly. We see Luke has finally grown up and realized his potential. At the same time, we also get hints that Luke may be dancing with the Dark Side--he Force chokes Jabba's guards, he's dressed in all black. (Notice that at the end after the Emperor is killed, part of Luke's black outfit is open, revealing the white fabric underneath.) All of that is set up in the first act of RotJ. It's a necessary bridge between the heroes' losing streak in Empire and the final act in the Emperor's throne room.

Fair Point. I think the detachment has more to do with the main threat of the first act is Jabba and his criminal syndicate, who have nothing to do with the threat of the Empire. Like you said it's a necessary bridge, but I wish Jabba had some sort of connection to the Empire (maybe even just possessing stolen plans for the second Death Star), to make this conflict more beneficial to the rebellion. However, I'd like to stress that it is only a minor gripe for, as I do really like what it does for Luke's character.

@@Spidgey Jabba’s palace is only there to rescue Han. Han was only frozen in carbonite as an insurance policy as he hadn’t signed on for the third film. If Harrison Ford hadn’t returned they could’ve skipped this sequence easily, but we would’ve missed out on the gold bikini though, so…

That is currently the plan. I have a handful of projects I'd like to make before I get there, but there will be a Prequel Retrospective in the future. Stay Tuned!

Star Wars, The Original Trilogy: When Lucasfilm was populated by people who loved/cared about/nurtured the franchise. (Before the coming of the XX-only Sith Lord KK and her incompetent lapdog "writers" and "directors" of The Dark Times.)
