Be careful about calling USMA the primary commissioning source. USMA only commissions about 1,000 officers per year out of the 6,000 that the Army receives. 70% of commissioned officers come from ROTC. You also did not cover the Command Sergeant Major rank at the battalion level. A Sergeant Major at the battalion level is a Cow (2CL) that is the BN Sandhurst SGM. Besides those two inaccuracies, this is a great video for incoming cadet candidates.
There also a small group of former enlisted troops who are commissioned through OCS, Officer Candidate School. And, Direct Commission who are folks with special civilian skills (usually medical) that the military needs.
@@jtfikeas a former enlisted man who has been in a position to be under the command of both Academy graduates and ROTC graduates and have also been in positions in which I have been a hiring manager interviewing each, I will generally hire or look more seriously at the ROTC officer over the Academy grad. It has been my experience that while you get excellent employees from officers regardless of their commissioning source, the Academy grads have a general attitude of entitlement that I disliked as an Airman and NCO and dislike even more as a civilian. I have found this to be a general trait regardless of the Academy attended with the exception of mustang officers from all branches of service. I see from a resume that an individual is a Mustang, unless they totally bomb the interview or just aren’t qualified, they have the job.
@@Redraven2967 You seem to carry a bias from your time as a NCO that the rest of us don't carry. By the time active duty service is over, they are adults and not cocky kids anymore.

Are the ranks awarded depending on Course achievement; or rotated throughout the course to give the Cadets experience at various levels of military responsibility?
Depends; The four year ranks of Plebe, Yuk, Cow, and Firstie are all awarded based on time at the academy. All Plebes are Member of Squad, all Yuks are Team Leaders. The ranks in Cows and Firsties are usually rotated every semester but higher level ranks such as regimental and brigade staff are usually awarded based on merit. These positions do not rotate and they remain in them all year.
Don't sound so disengaged; future cadets that are looking for a leg up may hear the tonals, and decide to go with their 1st (GO NAVY) instinct, 2nd (Yay, mom, we're washing wings), 3rd instinct @ Kings Point, or 4th, just pass the SAT to ride boats with training wheels. LOL. J/K, but seriously, the disinterested voice tonals are problematic. sound involved. I don't know if you're a Cadet, or other, but make it sound like you CARE. This didn't.
The large chevrons ruin the look of the uniform. I know, I know, it's tradition from way back. Still, smaller chevrons would complement the uniform without standing out too much.

Good to know. I’m starting my plebe year in 2 weeks
Good luck, hope it works out
How’d it go so far bro?
nice im starting in 2 months!
Only about 18% of Army Officers come from USMA so it’s not the “primary source”
So what is the Army Officers "primary source"?
@@Yuws-rk6ot ROTC. You know as much about the military as I do about nuclear physics.
@@bob80q thanks. It's because actually I'm not from USA. I just found this video and liked.
@@bob80q he knows as much about the military as you do in knowing that the person you responded to is not the person who made this video
Um it’s more like 25%. You know of a higher education source supplying a higher percentage? No? That would make them the primary source.

ROTC is where its at! Same outcome and you get to live a regular college life

Can you make a usafa rank video and a usafa uniform video? Thanks your videos are super helpful!
Very interesting, do you plan on discussing any more German military topics, really like those.
Yeah I can for sure do more German military stuff. Thanks for the support!
Very interesting
you count the gold not the spaces the gold lace indicates rank not the blank portion in-between. Lieutenants have 3 stripes, Capt 4. & etc.
Helpful about to go in about 2 months

What kind on insignia are worn by Brigade Staff who aren't in a 'S-#' position with rockers under the chevrons? Example... the Brigade Honor Captain?
Great vid - thanks!
What does it mean when the Stripes are inverted?
Can you do Norwich University
Do vmi uniforms

It's tradition and in the US we are far too quick to discard tradition. I hope the Academy never bows to pressure from non-graduates.

Very interesting. But the narrators voice is irritating. She sounds bored with her own presentation.
