i must say this video is miles better than the previous top 50 video. in the previous one, it felt like you were miserable and constantly negative because you were reviewing content that you didn’t feel all that passionate about. however, in this one, the whole mood feels a lot more laid back and it’s nice to see you talk about levels you genuinely enjoy over levels that you dislike such as the majority of the levels in the top 50 back then. fun video, you’ve grown a ton as a content creator :)

this is an amazing list, Black Blizzard and Sunset Sandstorm are two of my favorite extremes
not only that, most of the extremes I'd place high up were mentioned here too
although I'm kinda sad that Super Probably Level didn't get in, it's a really good level too
Personally, I think triple six is one of the best extremes in the game. It's a hell level, but in an incredibly unique way that no other level has done, and while I haven't beaten it yet, I've heard that the gameplay is incredibly fun and consistent.
As a triple six victor, it’s incredibly fun and I loved everything about it. I think the reason Wherwin didn’t place triple six and nhelv is because he isn’t a fan of memory but personally I think they’re both amazing.
I have triple six as a hardest right now, and I honestly straight recommend anyone to try it. I enjoyed every bit of it, everything in the second half makes you feel so awesome and its stupid satisfying. Quite the level.

YO! It's very nice to see back such a big influence to the community back then, and in what a way...
Also, I know you're from another generation of players of the game, but nowadays memory levels, and specifically stuff like Requiem, Killbot, Nightshade or well, Limbo, are considered some of the most fun if not the most fun extreme demons in the game since their gameplay often comes as extremely consistent and well balanced. I know it's a subjective list, but eh, I'd like you to know it considering you come from a time in the community when memory levels were seen badly.

Otherwise, the only placements I really disagree with are cybernetic crescent and apollo 11, this list is really nice and I'd never seen Decay before, it looks so cool
the rest I would switch around a lot but everything is mostly in the right place

damn I've been watching a lot of your videos recently and I kinda got jumpscared by decay being here. I'm super glad that you liked it enough to place it at 15th, thank you so much! :D
Personally, I'd put Retention pretty high up there because it's one of the only extreme demons that's unabashedly fun and joyous, and watching or playing it fills me with a strange optimism and happiness. It's also dated in a very charming way, and the gameplay is very fun.
Good video! I remember watching your original ranking video a few months after it released, and this is a big improvement. Making a purely subjective list is 100% the right way to go, and I think more people need to wake up to the fact that their own rankings of media are not objective in any way lol.

im a sucker for newgrounds and seeing a level with that theme was just crazy to me
not only that but with a song that is not edm and its just hilarious, i absolutely love that level gameplay and deco wise
You left a few of my favorites off so I'm gonna mald in the comments (explain why I like them)
Trueffet: I love the vibe this level gives off. The color scheme is really nice and the designs are all very clean while being very optimized. The gameplay is also ridiculously fun and I think fits with the song perfectly.
Nhelv: It's memory so I can understand why you wouldn't like this one but I love the creative gameplay in it. The effects and song also slap.
Sigma Interface: I think this one is my favorite of the Interface levels even though it was unfinished. The color scheme of purple and yellow you don't see nailed very often which makes it stand out. I am also a huge fan of techy deco styles. It also gives a nice chill vibe making it fun to watch. The level is also fairly easy making it pretty accessible.
Fairly good list over all. Glad to see I'm not the only one that loves Misty Mountains!
literally could not agree more with The Moon Below being #3. Absolutely phenomenal level, with one of (if not) the best atmospheres in the game.

But in all seriousness, I think this video is a lot better than your older “Top 50 Worst To Best” video. While you did talk about levels you kind of liked at the end, I appreciate a video where you only talk about levels you like. It personally makes for much more pleasurable viewing for me. Granted, the quality of decoration has gone up supremely since the last video (which unfortunately resulted in the quality of the gameplay going down by the same amount), but still. (And the fact that there’s like 4 KrmaL extremes here warms my dark little heart.) Also Removed Submission being #4 is so funny because you’re honestly right. Welcome back to the community, I hope you enjoy the game more than you did a couple years ago :)
Great video. Sad to see the lack of berserk, triple 6, acu and nhelv but you still gave some really good analysis.
I'm very happy to watch one of these where the person just openly admits to being biased, it's like some people want to project their opinions upon others as if they hold to a specific standard that makes them the correct one, or more objective, and this and that. I'm just glad to hear someone's opinions, it's genuinely very refreshing
I understand you don't like memory, but I think Marathon's theming is really cool to me personally and I really appreciate it for what it is, but I understand it's not for everyone either

awesome video! i love when people make videos about levels theyre actually passionate about, and your (at least from my view) focus on originality led to some really interesting level choices. i do wish that you had been a bit less quick to dismiss painful-looking memory gameplay as bad, especially in the case of nightshade, as most of the victors have said its a blast to play
P.S. because sunset sandstorm is your favorite extreme (based pick i must say), i was wondering what you thought of glide and crohn's new level that he has previewed, called "moving forward". its def one of the projects im most hyped for right now, and really resonated with me emotionally when i saw the preview
I was surprised to not see Daydream here, being my favorite extreme I’ve beaten. But it makes sense compared to all the other levels on this list. There is just a lot of really good extremes in the game.
glad you liked the art of the blade, i still cant believe the entire project was done start to finish within a little over a week (INCLUDING verification). it drained a lot of us but putting it out for everyone to see has been worth it
regarding the TERRIBLE memory, we were in a competition where we had to make an extreme in a week that no one else could beat. needless to say we were victorious
i get that but it’s still a valid criticism drive the original context of it is gone

I mean my personal favourite extreme demon is black flag, mainly due to how it integrates the gameplay and song into the theme as well as the decoration (also since it’s my hardest demon so sentimental value and such). I was also surprised to not see frozen cave on here but overall a pretty damn good list.

This appeared on my recommendation page and I checked out and yeah pretty cool list, you really makes your point on the picks for the best levels even in the cases were I don't agree with a lot, overall this was a good watch and makes me curious about what kind of theming+ gameplay combination you would like to see
Great video! Even though I don't agree with some takes (how is congregation that high lol), you still explain your points with actual argumentative information that makes me think twice about my thoughts on each ranking, which I truly appreciate.
Also, as I was watching this, I kept wondering what this list would look like under an extreme demon grinder's perspective, as I noticed that you discounted gameplay in the majority of your explanations. Just some food for thought!
My favorite extreme is N0, which I’ve beaten. I love its sync and how it stands out with how it uses design style. I also think Speedrun could have a place on this list, with its crazy colors and high speeds, it really feels like a speedrun to me.

I really love this list, each and every one of these extremes slaps in my opinion as well. Be it for the legacy, the gameplay, the atmosphere (my personal favorite aspect of a level), or all around uniqueness and well-roundedness, I love these 50.

The best thing about this is that even if I don’t agree with all the takes in it, the way they’re explained really makes me look at levels in a way I never knew how to. Also, if I had to add a level it’d have to be SPL. The best way to show why I love it is comparing it to its unofficial sequel, MPT. While MPT is a good level in its own right, I think it completely fails as an SPL sequel because it’s trying way too hard to be goofy, and it really just does not work for me. SPL on the other hand strikes that perfect balance between playing it straight and being funny imo.

Awesome video also Removed Submission seems fairly placed it's actually really cool and your reasons for your placements are very interesting.
In case you didn’t know, the thing about Lodin da fish washer is that it tries it’s best to make you think that it has a story while in reality it's the exact opposite. In fact, at the end one of the texts is telling a story and the other one is saying that it's all fake.

This list is pretty good, it’s interesting to see your takes, I will say There are levels I would have put aswell like frozen cave, verdant landscape, boj, and limbo, but I can see why they aren’t on here, I also personally wouldn’t have put cybernetic or congregation nearly as high but that’s more of a personal thing, great video, also your criticism was done well
Though I completely understand why you wouldn't like it, Idols would definitely be in my top 50. To me, it's a rare instance where the chaotic megacollab "no clear theme" style fits with the nature of the song, even if that might not have been intentional. also great video!

One of my favorite extremes is Halberd, which is incredibly memory heavy and filled with insanely awkward gameplay. However, memory is my favorite thing in this game, and alongside being a huge Kirby fan, learning and executing runs on that level has been some of the most fun I've ever had in this game. It executes its theme amazingly (albeit a little rough here and there when inspected closer), with only one part I'm not a huge fan of, which I can only say for a couple of other levels I've done. Some of my other favorites you didn't mention are troll level (my only extreme so far, loved it), Triple Six, GewErbiX, Marathon, moment, Berserk, of Ambrosia, and The Hell Factory, oddly enough.

Personally EX by ilrell and more is my favourite extreme and level in the game.
The idea of a magical mushroom forest is really cool to me and EX pulls it off perfectly.
Probably a really hot take but Karma is my favorite extreme in the game. The gameplay and the song are absolutely incredible and despite being a layout level, the decoration of the layout is done quite well that you don't even feel like you're playing a layout as you are playing it.
i haven't even started the video and I love it.
I genuinely think the bias against memory and the bias for "accessibility" in some parts take a lot away from this list being a good recap of extremes. Honestly memory stops being a big issue with extremes because the learning process is long enough already it's not like it's creating significantly more trouble for you, and levels like killbot or nhelv or nightshade are just objectively good and fun to play. Also I think accessibility is a really unimportant metric when you are making a list about the hardest tier of levels in the game - they are hard. That's the point. Part of the joy of extremes is the level of difficulty you overcome during your time beating the level, for example with Dark Travel it should not be ranked any lower just for being extreme (also each section of this level individually is maybe medium or hard demon so you can just play it in practice). Also I think viewing some levels from a perspective of "this is artistically cool" but then detracting others for gameplay, "this has too much memory," is unfair to the methodology. If you really cared about the gameplay of levels, then you should review them from the perspective of gameplay more often than just to detract points for the mere existence of memory, plus I believe it is downright misleading to actually consider gameplay of levels without at least doing a practice run of them - how are you going to form an opinion on the gameplay elements being enjoyable or not if you haven't touched them yourself?
IMO if you just wanted to look at cool levels then there is no reason for you personally to limit it to extremes.

i refuse to believe there’s a single human being that thinks nhelv isn’t at least in the top 10 best levels of all time, the music is god tier, gameplay is god tier and literally one of a kind (i’ve beaten it so i can say that), and the decoration is god tier. it is the perfect level, it deserves to be praised

Of course it's better than levels like Aerial Gleam but it has the same problem that Whervin mentioned with storming summit - it is a representation of a musical clip, so nhelv is kinda souless for me. This is why I don't like storming summit neither and this extreme with some kind of castlevania theme, I don't even remember the name, sorry
Would have loved to see Glide by crohn44. The way the levels feels to play is so satisfying and on top of that the themeing is really nice. It really nails the feeling of flying
Awesome work, although I'd love to see you go into more depth as to why objectively good/bad art can't exist. I still get the feeling that there's some kind of definitive reason as to why the average Sweetdude level is never considered on the same level of quality as something like Sunset Sandstorm.

something like sunset sandstorm just checks the boxes of popular 'good-level' criteria held by alot of people in the community: impressive and flashy visuals, interesting and unique gameplay, a cool theme, ect. higher-end levels like this seem cosmically arranged to just be superior to your average sweetdude level, right?
but these standards are still ultimately subjective. someone saying that they prefer (some generic 2.0 featured level) to sunset sandstorm is just a matter of taste. perhaps they just like by-the-books gameplay and restrained, simple decoration and dislike the bombast of community favourites like sunset. there's nothing objectively wrong with those opinions, they're just personal standards that I and many others would disagree with.
"good" and "bad" are inherently subjective because they are based on an individuals values. If you ask someone what makes something good, you are always going to get different interpretations, and even if two people describe it the same, in their minds they will still value certain smaller details of that thing differently. When people say "objectively good/bad", in general they mean that its something most people would recognize as good/bad, even if its still technically subjective. "Objectively good" really just translates to "good by most people's standards", which can still be messy since sometimes its not easy to determine the general consensus on a thing. The problem with using the word "objective" is that its still a misuse of the word, since "good" is inherently not objective and can never be.

So, i have a lot of things to say about this list. I appreciate a lot of the placements but i was genuinely surprised at some of the extremes you didnt put on this list, despite your preference for well executed theming or just general atmospheric visuals. I dont have TOO much to say but i want to know your thoughts on frozen cave? it feels oddly like a hybrid between misty mountains and sunset sandstorm and it just seems like something right up your alley, unique gameplay and well executed theming above all
i cannot describe my reaction when #1 was ss, still great video, this created a great comparison with the old one to show how much your content has improved, this was entertaining the whole way through
Imo the best verified level in the whole game is Arrow by jacobsucks. Yes, the bad xo sequel. It's not rated and it's not extreme difficulty, but it is BY FAR the most fun I've ever had beating a level and the decoration is an absolute joy to look at. The song is incredible, the gameplay is just out of this world, the structuring is amazing, it's just orgasmic in every way
The best unverified level is Edge of Destiny btw. What is there to say, it has the best decoration ever created and it's not even remotely close.

Sunset Sandstorm is the perfect No.1, there's literally no other valid choice. It's everything that Black Blizzard did right, but done better. I love Sunset Sandstorm it's one of the best levels this game has ever seen and ever will see.
Verdant Landscape is my favorite level in the game, followed by Limbo and Ocular Miracle, which I am fully aware the OC is unrated and I choose to not care.

I wish Artifice was at least in the decent tier just because how the gameplay really matches greatly with the song.(but that's just my opinion). The deco isn't the best thing ever of course but I really love the atmosphere of it, that's combined with the song which is the best factor, the gameplay and the deco.
i love that wherwin is a lot less cynical then he was like 4 or so years ago (not to say he wasnt fun to watch back then ive always enjoyed your videos) but i love that he still kept some of those cynical elements in his videos. just less saturated
I’m just gonna run through the extremes that I have personally beaten or have progress on because why not (also that’s like barely any still).
Niflheim: Pretty much everything said about A Bizarre Phantasm could also be said for Niflheim. I see a couple possible shortcomings to Niflheim but A Bizarre Phantasm has some of those too. Also the last cube of Niflheim has such an atmosphere when playing it I’m in love with it. But overall I personally prefer Niflheim to ABP in that role
Artificial Dream: This is probably one of the most painfully early 2.1 extreme demon there is, though it works fine. You can tell the most important part of this level is the gameplay though.
Precipitance: Probably one of the most meh extremes out there all things considered. It’s not offensive (unless you count offensively basic), but it doesn’t do much either.
Brimtanic Paradise: This level is so freaking carried by song in terms of the non gameplay experience. The visuals are ok, nothing exceptional but the song really helps the suspense, especially towards the end, and it works with the visuals to create mostly interesting parts.
Anahita: Atmospheric and with great decoration. This level is really good visually, though it is beginning to show a bit of age, particularly due to the rather static structures in some parts and a couple parts that are a little out of place, but otherwise very good. Though I would say that the existence of Black Flag which does a similar style but with better movements probably banished this level into the shadow realm of not exceptional enough
I think Acu should be on here because of the gameplay, sync and the way the effects and color changes are executed
Also SuSan at 1# is so based
nah. acu is cool, but the levels on here do it better.

I cant really disagree with a lot of these picks, theyre pretty based. Something I wish was mentioned was glisten, a sadly relatively unknown extreme. Its my current favorite extreme, and former favorite level in the game entirely. The deco is so amazingly pulled off and unique, and works really well with the song. The gameplay too is incredible, being super consistent, with there being pretty much no unfair parts and being really consistent!

I'm glad you admitted that your list was completely subjective and obviously bias.. People trying to find an "objective" ranking of the levels is just completely stupid and uninteresting and it's genuinely just much more enjoyable to watch someone's personal favorite levels instead since everyone is different and it's fun to see what every individual person has to say about what they like about levels rather than arguing with people about what levels they think are the best or whatever.

All 3 levels' names are 2 words that start with the same letter. Furthermore, the first word in the names of each of the levels can be connected to technology.
My favourite extreme would probably be glide, it looks phenomenal and uses less objects than xo. The only gripe I have with the level is the spider part, although that's because of the gameplay rather than the design.
I also think niflheim is up there, it has aged super well and there's only 1 part I think is out of place decoration wise, being the grey part from 40% to about 52%. Gameplay wise I think it's also really fun apart from a bug here and there and some questionable gameplay.
For extremes that are out of my skill range, some extremes i am a fan of (that you havent mentioned) are hatred, oblivion, nhelv, and not necessarily because of the decoration, I just think those levels are really cool

I think Zettabyte should be on this list, because in my opinion it masters the technological vibe, the music is great, and it is pretty fun, thats why it is one of my favorite extremes, however I completely agree with the entire WoahZone

Have you checked out NEUTRA yet? It's not verified yet, but it's one of my favorite extreme demons right now.
Its crazy how extreme have moved nore towards design and yet still levels like artificial ascent, and digital descent are stil up there; extremes are still kinda lacking behind other levels
I am a little disappointed that “super probably level” didnt make it but seeing how you were saying memory levels aren’t your cup of tea it’s understandable. Pretty good list otherwise :)
