- In this thrift haul video, I share my latest vintage and antique finds that are helping me slowly decorate my farmhouse on a budget. As a homemaker who loves adding unique and timeless pieces to my home, I’m always on the hunt for treasures that bring character and charm. I also share a personal story about how my love for vintage cookbooks began, starting with the discovery of a 1949 edition of Meta Given’s Modern Encyclopedia of Cooking that brought back memories of my mom’s cooking.
From vintage decor to rare thrift store finds, this haul includes pieces that fit perfectly into my cozy farmhouse aesthetic. Whether you’re a fan of budget-friendly decorating, vintage cookbooks, or collecting items with history and charm, this video is for you!
Join me as I talk about the joys of decorating slowly, building a collection of meaningful pieces, and finding beauty in thrifted treasures.

You completely sold me on wanting old cookbooks, especially the 1950's cookbook that you recently bought. I like how it references to that era of their lives back then. I grew up on the Kuskokwim River in rural Alaska and the adults put together a local cookbook with recipes that were passed down to them from their grandmothers and older. They had recipes on how to cook beaver meat, moose meat, bear, all the animals that their elders ate and cooked. I am a pescatarian now but still have the amazing cookbooks. I tend to pick up the old cookbooks, but I haven't found anything old as what you have from before the Great Depression.
Wow, that is really special to have those cookbooks with such a history! Those should remain a treasured family heirloom ❤️
You always find the best stuff when you go thrifting, Suzanne! Enjoy! ❤ I always love your thrift haul videos ❤!
Thanks Roberta, thrifting is the only activity I do for fun outside of the farm. I love it ❤️ Merry Christmas! 🎄
I really like watching thrift finds. Especially when someone has the same type of style as I do. (Like you!) I like all your content, but I do enjoy a separate thrift haul too.
Thank you!! I’m so glad you enjoy the thrift hauls. I do enjoy it so much! ❤️
Yes to thrift hauls! I love old cookbooks also
Thank you!! ❤️
I love thrift hauls.😊❤
Yay! ❤️ I love watching them too!
I love cookbooks too. I would love to see a thrift haul when ever you want to do them. I enjoy your videos.
Thanks so much for the feedback! That’s great for me to know. Happy holidays! ❤️❤️❤️
I love Downton Abbey. Especially when the staff was all down there cooking, or having a meal together. And the Mrs Beaton cookbook is so cool. My antique cookbooks are mostly from my mom and grandmother and my favourite thing about them is the front of those books where they tell you the different cuts of meat, how to shop and all the entertainment tips. I read them just for fun. Merry Christmas, Suzanne. ❤
I always knew that if I was in Downton Abbey, I’d be one of the people living downstairs 😂. Hopefully in the kitchens!
I love that part of the cookbooks too! It is fascinating, how much information woman had, in order to properly make decisions on how to feed their families. Being a full time housewife was a serious job!
Fun video! I liked seeing how excited you were to find your treasures. I really enjoy thrift videos but also enjoy your cooking videos. Just keep doing what you're doing!
Great, thanks for the feedback! ❤️
It sounds like you & I look for similar things! I’d say 99% of the furniture, decor, and kitchenware in my home is either thrifted or hand-me-down. The only thing in my living room that was purchased new is the piano that my parents bought for me when I was 7 years old. I actually don’t think any of our furniture was purchased new by us…even our bedroom suit was purchased new by my parents for their bedroom approximately 15 years before I was born. I used to be pretty true to MCM decor and the wacky style of the 70’s, but at this stage of my life I mix those things with cottage, generally antique, and it’s a real treat when I find something that looks medieval. My 14 year old makes fun of my eclectic “grandma” taste. 🤷🏼♀️
Also I love vintage cookbooks. I don’t find them often, but it’s really exciting when I do!
I’m also having a hard time accepting that stuff from my childhood in the 90’s is now considered to be vintage. 🧐
So great, sounds like you have a very eclectic style! I pretty much try to wait for the items that WOW me! I’ve bought too much stuff that I’ve re-donated in the past. I’ve also re-donated things I regret!! 😂 Especially with the minimalism movement…. I got rid of so many treasures. Now I have just come to terms. This is who I am. I will always love vintage and antique stuff. I will always be a collector!
Crazy about 90’s being vintage. Ugh! I feel old!
I can’t wait to see your bedroom with your new linen ❤
I’m very excited about it!
Suzanne, in today's fast/quick world, you have curated beautiful items for your home. I have been looking for old cookbooks too, and I have found that they cost as much as a new book in my area! But I keep searching. I love thrift haul videos too. Merry Christmas to you and yours!
Thank you so much, that is a great compliment ❤️ I hope you find a way to get them at a better price. I can get them at a good price if I am very patient. If I want it now, I’m gonna pay waaayyy more!!! lol. It is difficult, but even having one or two…there are so many recipes. One good book can keep you entertained for a long time!
I really love watching your videos we are kindred spirits!
Yay! That’s awesome ❤️
Very nice video! I love watching what you find thrifting. Your videos are always a highlight for me. Thank you!
That means so much, thank you!! ❤️❤️❤️
What a lovely thrift haul. I wasn’t in to thrifting until the pandemic, now that is the only way I shop and I love it. I do go to thrift stores some but this last year I have changed to estate sale and I find the best bargains that way. Love the green linen sheets- I just recently got green velour throw pillow covers so that they could go from Christmas to January and still look good.
I hadn’t really considered looking for estate sales, but that is probably the best way to find vintage and antique items! I’ll have to keep that in mind!! ❤️
I love thrifting too but I don't like cooking. The duvet and pillow cases are nice, great find! Your decor for Christmas is one of my favorites and I have been watching videos for weeks now.
Thank you so much!! ❤️😀
Hi Suzanne, the linen bedding set was an amazing find, especially in such a lovely color.
Thrifting is definitely a treasure hunt but without a map...lol...you just never know when you will find something special. I've become very selective as well and for the entire month of December, I only purchased two very small and inexpensive items.
Chicken ala King, wow, for me a Blast from the Past. We would serve it in puff pastry shells by Pepperidge Farm. It might be time for me to make it again after 3 or more decades!!
Hi Leslie, Merry Christmas!! 🎄 I think when you are a well-seasoned thrifter, you need to be selective. It’s very easy for the house to become cluttered. I also do a de-cluttering every so often to re-assess if I have gotten the use out of an item that I intended on. If not, it’s gotta go!
My mom hasn’t made Chicken ala king in years, but it was a memorable dish!!
Thanks for sharing your finds! You found such great treasures!
Thank you! I have so much find looking for the needle in a haystack ☺️
I’d be excited about dining that linen set too!
Yes, it was such a great find. ❤️
Thank you for sharing!! I enjoy watching your videos!! I love cookbooks too. And enjoy finding them in thrift shop too. Yes! ! More videos your the best . You have very nice holidays and Happy New Year .
Thanks so much! Have a wonderful holiday season 🎄
I love your videos. I learn a lot from them, I hope you and your family have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. ❤
Thank you! Wishing you a Merry Christmas 🎄
I haven't been a department store or mall in years. I love thrifting.
❤️
Nice set of cream and sugar❤
Thank you! 😊
You are such an inspiration. I ordered the Meta Givens cookbooks. Of course. I had to get them from Thrift Books. I also got a glass double boiler from Etsy like yours.
That’s so cool!! ❤️❤️❤️
Great finds. I love me some thrifting also. And a very Merry Christmas to you and yours!
Thank you! Merry Christmas 🎄❤️
Great finds. Hoping you and your family have a very Merry Christmas too!
Thank you, Merry Christmas! 🎄
Hi Suzanne
I really like all your videos and enjoy watching you- whilst doing my own home making with you in the background
Thanks for all the good videos and keep them coming
I just want to wish you and your family a great Christmas and happy new year and i hope your husband’s and brothers snow business is going to do well over this season
Have a wonderful day and see you in the next video
Thank you, that is so thoughtful! 🥰 Merry Christmas 🎄
Great finds!
Thank you! ❤️
I have a lot of eclectic cookbooks. However, I am not as into cooking as I was. I am only cooking for myself and my husband now.
I love your sugar bowl and creamer.
I totally get it. It is exhausting cooking for years and years. I don’t have the patience I once did. I was talking to my daughter about it. I have become more lazy in the kitchen 😅. Once all the kids are gone, there will definitely be less incentive.
I like thrift the finds
I will have to look for it! Is it on UA-cam?
I found your cream and sugar (I think) and they appear to be from the Jefferson Glass Company of West Virginia, but possibly made in Toronto. The pattern is known as Chippendale or Quadruped. Made in the early 1900's, so your Art Deco guess was right! So pretty. My mom had the two volumes of the Encyclopedia of Cooking, but they were in such rough shape that I threw them away when we cleaned out her house. I have serious regrets about that now - they were probably a wedding gift since my parents were married in 1949.
Good job @laurawatkins9399. They are a beautiful set. I work in an antique mall and have never seen these before, I thought maybe they were Heisey. Very happy to read your response. Thank you! Karla in Cali.
Too bad about the cookbooks!! Maybe you could find another set. Though I know it’s not the same as having your mom’s original copies.
Thank you so much for identifying the cream & sugar set!!!! That is SO exciting! 👏🏻 🙌🏻 So cool to see others like mine. They are a true treasure. ❤️
Really enjoyed your video! Just found you today! Keep up the good job!
@@AlaineNamink So glad you found me, welcome!! ❤️❤️❤️
Really great finds! I don't like to cook, but I love looking at old cookbooks and seeing what they made, etc. Mrs. Beeton also wrote a book called Mrs. Beeton's Book of Household Management ,which I'd love to see. Everything in my house is either thrifted, estate sale, garage sale, hand me down, or inherited. Also, you wear such cute clothes. Do you thrift your clothes too? --Barbara
Hi Barbara, I forgot to show it in this haul, but inside the Mrs. Beeton’s cookbook was a bookmark, I’m guessing original to the book, that has all of her - then published - books on it! And yes, I saw the household management on the list. I need to find that book!!! 😂
I do thrift all of my clothing, with the exception of my aprons (Amazon) and I’ve sewn all of my own skirts and a couple dresses. It is very hard to find the style I like, without it costing over $100 on Etsy. I plan to sew a bit more this winter. It’s much easier to find shirts in the style I like!
You might wanna watch the old curiosity shop. He knows a lot about old things. He’s very knowledgeable about it and he does surfing.
I will try to check it out! Thanks for the tip! ❤️
I like watching your videos! I wonder if you speak or understand French? Joyeux Noël from Quebec.
I am horrible at speaking French, but I do understand quite a bit. I went to French immersion up to grade 4. I’ve heard so much French, with my husband speaking all the time to his family and friends. I can understand the conversation, just not every single word. 😊 Joyeux Noel 🎄
You are sweet but I find that this video was extremely slow. I own the complete set of Meta cookbooks and I agree that they are special. I think if you sped things up just a little it would be more interesting to watch.
Thank you for the feedback. I do appreciate it. I’ve been doing extra content for December, and I know this video could have used more editing. ❤️
Mrs Beaton is English I think. Ruth Goodman talks about the book in Victorian farm. Google Ruth Goodman.
I have seen all the episodes! I love that show. It’s been awhile, so I didn’t remember. Awesome, thank you! 😊
