Reminds me of Saturday afternoons in the 70's fishing with your dad, who allows you to taste beer for the first time while flys buzz around as the sunsets...
Then if you’re still a young-un, you be like; “Eww! Dad, how can you drink this stuff? It’s sooo weird.” “It’s an acquired taste, son. Someday, my boy, someday, like when you’re old enough to understand why girls aren’t gross at all.” - Dad 🍻🍺

I couldn't agree more ❤ I'm so happy I got to experience Joni live twice. Once was at Newport Folk Fest and a show just her in Boston. It was a "concept album" which we had no idea. So she sang standards and other people's songs. The concept was a love story. So, every song reflected a different moment in the relationship from courting, to true love, marriage, children, problems, affairs, betrayal, heartache, divorce and ultimately forgiveness. It was a beautiful show, I can't I was so sad she wasn't singing her song. She came for an encore and then played another 45 minutes of all her amazing hits . It was incredible 😂❤😂

As an 11-year old black kid in the good ole state of Mississippi in 1974, the remnants of the Civil Rights era still reverberated at the time. However, I found solace and comfort in the only ubiquitous element known to man, and that was music. My musical palette was very unique because I listened to every genre that there was at that time. A lot of people didn't understand that I didn't see race as a big deal when it came to music. When I first heard this classic from Joni Mitchell, fellll in love with it immediately. Music is universal to me and I find it to be very therapeutic, regardless of one's race. This is one the best songs that I have ever heard.
I'm as white as they come, and I've had a similar experience with people not understanding why I like 'black' music, especially Jazz and Blues. It's a universal language. And I agree...this is a class A song! Joni wrote a lot of them in the '70s.
Summer 1974. 50 years ago this month on a warm summer night I can still recall listening to this song on a small portable radio on the back porch and the moon, clouds, warm breeze. I was 15 years young. Nothing special going on but summer vacation and soaking in the tranquility while thinking about some high school girl I had a crush on. God what I would give for a time machine
You and I must be about the same age. I loved this song and still do. But I hated school as I was wimpy and pimply faced. So summer vacation was dreamy, but now at 65 life is much better.

One of the greatest songs ever written, performed, recorded. It saved my life several times. 500 years from now people will still marvel at it. If we still exist, or are allowed arts and music.
I love this song. It's so soothing. It takes me to a place where there are endless blue skies, I can feel the warmth of the sun beaming on my face, in a field of daisies.
I knew a woman who sounded exactly like Joni Mitchell. She was visiting from California, and sang as we sat around a campfire at Lake Clearwater in New Zealand - I was mesmerized. I later had an all too brief relationship with her, but let her go one fateful night in December 1991. It's a decision I regret to this day, and my heart breaks a little every time I hear a Loni Mitchell song.
I'm 17 years old, but my mom who was born in 1970 used to listen to this song a lot when I was younger. I heard it on Music Choice the other day and many memories came flooding back. This song is absolutely timeless and I could listen to it on repeat over and over again! It almost makes me emotional and makes me think of the summertime and the good times ahead ;)
My uncle was friends with Joni Mitchell before his passing in 2013. She gave him two of her personal paintings which my other uncle has now being of her generation. RIP Steven Louis

Joni Mitchell's "Help Me," from her 1974 album Court and Spark, captures the essence of a thrilling love yet riddled with apprehension. With its jazzy undertones and Mitchell's signature folk influence, the song reflects the struggle between longing and self-preservation while conveying the paradox of love with a subtle yet irresistible groove. The instrumentation on Help Me is a masterful blend. The saxophone, layered with Mitchell's guitar and that light, bouncing rhythm, hints at a carefree romance while underscoring the song's lyrical themes. It moves with a breezy confidence, inviting listeners to sway along, almost in contrast to the tension woven into the lyrics. Mitchell sings with the timbre of someone both enchanted and aware of impending heartache, creating a contrast that forms the song's emotional core. Lyrically, Mitchell doesn't just dwell on love's idyllic moments but brings to life the whirlwind of confusion and vulnerability that often accompanies intense attraction. She knows the potential pitfalls in her romance, admitting, "We love our lovin', but not like we love our freedom." The line strikes a chord with anyone who has ever felt torn between the desire for closeness and the need for independence. Yet, despite its somewhat serious and dark messaging, Help Me offers a refreshing melody that, combined with Joni's angelic vocals, paradoxically softens its apprehensive undertones. The song feels as bright and open as a sun-drenched afternoon, where a listener might find themselves strolling through a park entirely at ease. It could just as easily serve as a perfect soundtrack for a scenic drive down the Pacific Coast Highway, with the ocean stretching alongside the moment's beauty echoing Mitchell's voice effortlessly. This unexpected lightness adds another layer that makes Help Me timeless and universally appealing, proving it's as soothing as it is introspective. In terms of production, Help Me is meticulously polished yet retains a certain rawness. This production style captured a pivotal moment in Mitchell's career when she embraced more elaborate arrangements while maintaining the emotional intimacy that defined her earlier work. The song feels like a conversation, intimate and reflective, showcasing Mitchell's evolution as an artist without losing the introspective lyricism that made her a 1960s icon. Ultimately, Help Me is a testament to the dual nature of love: the exhilarating highs and the looming uncertainties. It's a song that acknowledges love's allure while embracing the potential for loss. And in true Joni Mitchell fashion, it leaves us wondering if the trade-off is ever worth it, resonating with listeners as profoundly today as it did in the '70s. Just my two cents worth. - Lefty Stratocaster

This song reached #7 on the Billboard Hot 100. Can you imagine such an incredible jazz/pop track - with a complex maj7 based chord progression and top notch production - going anywhere near the top 10 these days?

Me and my first wife are in our sixties and were getting back together after 30 years apart . and we make this our theme song . just like shamless ..lol ! Brings happiness to me .
Help Me brilliantly captures the emotional roller coaster that accompanies the sensation of “falling,” and the fear that’s triggered when you know not how far you’ll fall, or whether you’re descending faster than your beloved - which means enduring some of the decent … alone. Great song. Great artist.
I have always loved this song. The nuances. The syncopation. The masterful lyrical phrasing. The blend of voices on the “help me” all send a jolt of joy to the feel good center of my brain. And it just feels good . (Didn’t it feel good? lol)

Lyrics: Help me I think I'm falling In love again When I get that crazy feeling I know I'm in trouble again I'm in trouble 'Cause you're a rambler and a gambler And a sweet taIking ladies man And you love your lovin' But not like you love your freedom Help me I think I'm falling In love too fast It's got me hoping for the future And worrying about the past 'Cause I've seen some hot hot blazes Come down to smoke and ash We love our lovin' But not like we love our freedom Didn't it feel good We were sitting there talking Or lying there not talking Didn't it feel good You dance with the lady With the hole in her stocking Didn't it feel good Didn't it feel good Help me I think I'm falling In love with you Are you going to let me go there by myself That's such a lonely thing to do Both of us flirting around Flirting and flirting Hurting too We love our lovin' But not like we love our freedom

Me Too
Beautiful song of my youth at 16yrs of age.
I just love this song and Joni Mitchell's voice. Amazing.
I think we all want to go back to the first time we heard this album. Life affirming. Thanks Joni.
Joni Mitchell, Legend. Hello from San Antonio, Texas at Six AM 7/20/24!
(Didn’t it feel good? lol)
Brilliant response!❤
Love this amazing song by Joni Mitchell... heard this on radio as a kid.. she has a distinctive one of a kind gifted voice. Thanks for uploading this... a real music icon.
One of the best songs ever composed.
Her top song, as far as I'm concerned. With age you learn caution⚠️. Yet, Never say never again...The one I was with for 11 years in Binghamton passed away 😢 !
This song is a masterpiece, and just hearing it for the first time in 2022. This is one of those bangers you just listen to on repeat

Absolutely, just discovered Joni this year.
Lyrics:
Help me
I think I'm falling
In love again
When I get that crazy feeling
I know I'm in trouble again
I'm in trouble
'Cause you're a rambler and a gambler
And a sweet taIking ladies man
And you love your lovin'
But not like you love your freedom
Help me
I think I'm falling
In love too fast
It's got me hoping for the future
And worrying about the past
'Cause I've seen some hot hot blazes
Come down to smoke and ash
We love our lovin'
But not like we love our freedom
Didn't it feel good
We were sitting there talking
Or lying there not talking
Didn't it feel good
You dance with the lady
With the hole in her stocking
Didn't it feel good
Didn't it feel good
Help me
I think I'm falling
In love with you
Are you going to let me go there by myself
That's such a lonely thing to do
Both of us flirting around
Flirting and flirting
Hurting too
We love our lovin'
But not like we love our freedom
My favorite Joni song.
Always wondered which paramour this was about❤
Bump
She makes me cry too.
I don't lie. Everything I hear it today the chill runs down my spine. I can't fake that. God bless you joni your admirer. Dave
When I was a teenager, I loved singing with this song❤️❤️❤️
Grew up with this on a.m. radio 1974-5..?
Greetings from Cleveland Ohio!!! OMG, I’m 62 years old and have been listening to this song most of my life! I always thought that Joni said ……cause I’ve seen some hot, hot places come down to smoking’ hash!!! 🤣🤣🤣my bad! Peace and Love to the Whole World 🎸💃🏻🎶😃☮️❤️🌎
That's so funny!!!!😂😂😂😂
Thank you Ruthie Radcliff…..I thought it was funny also when I realized what Joni was saying!!! 🤣🤣🤣
Lol. That's good, made me laugh.
@@72shovelhead45 Thank you my friend….keep laughing. Yeah back in the 60’s and 70’s we didn’t have the lyrics to all songs if we didn’t buy the album 💿 🤣🤣🤣
That outro is sweet! I like the whole song a lot but that part is some of the grooviest material I've heard on a Joni Mitchell song
Yeah totally. Outro’s with a fade out are an art form in and of themselves.
There’s songs I’ll hear at the supermarket or wherever that I may not even like all that much but I know they have a cool outro so I’ll hang about a bit longer and listen to the whole song just to hear the outdo.
That is Larry Carlton on guitar
Funny how life reminds you how little you know about music every now and then, so thank you life for letting me experience this before its too late
Incredible. Joni is a GODDESS.
I don't think people realize what this song means until they have lived in the heart. Land of the united states
BEST FEMALE RECORDING OF ALL TIME
I love this song❤
Oh Joni❤! My brain said listen to this song today. It's so lovely in many ways and takes me back 49 years to summer when I first heard it. My girlfriend at the time had the album and I was blown away. Music today just doesn't have it but I'm old so...Thankyou Joni...God bless!
Beautiful song. Nothing changes that. But it's an old story. Like the modern day alpha widow. If you chase the most exciting, everything else is tame. Then you live to chase. The finish line can be lonely.
I absolutely love this song. Brings back so many pleasant memories. Especially on a summer trip to Detroit from my home in Chicago in 1973. Great songwriter with a fantastic voice 👌🏽
I love this album. Along with Blue it shows an artist's transition from folk to more complex jazz, pop sound.

I was 2 years old when this song was released. There's something about it that I can't get out of my head! I picture a bunch of hippies dancing around in a field with not a care in the world. Great times, I've heard! Great song!
Flexin' down Times Square hearing this.
Teenxxx
I am bass player and i heard about Johnny Mitchell, because of her job with Jaco and since than she is my favorite singer .I love her music.
Such illuminating, bright music...makes you feel like you are floating on air just hovering above the Berkshires and on up to the Catskills...on a beautiful sunny summer day.
Indeed it does!
