Hi Sky! But your children will like the beach, haha. I live in Groningen and I call prices in the Netherlands sky-high. Just this week I've been watching a lot about American nature on youtube. We go outside in the cold, because if we'd only do that when the weather's nice, we spend too many days inside, like the Americans haha. We say being active in the cold, builds up your physical resistance. Kids also have to get used to the cold. In the old days the drinkingwater in Rotterdam contained chlorine and people wouldn't drink it. It tasted blèh. But I don't know if it's still like that. You can find out haha. Prices of groceries have doubled in this country in 10 years time and more than doubled. I mean 2014-2024. My favorite cookies were €1,09 in 2014 and in steps they're now €2,39. That's how it went with almost all products in Dutch supermarkets. Thank you for all your video's. I enjoy them. I wish you a healthy & great 2025! Also for your family! Cheers!
@@truebluewonderful1139water in Rotterdam tastes OK now. I had family in Rotterdam way back when. But people drank the tap water, and if you drank thee, it tasted like old fashioned pool water with some added flavor. (Nowadays even pools don’t have the amounts of chlorine as way back when).

You make good points. Food in the US is expensive and not good quality, unless you pay more. People in the US have way too much greed and ignorance. People in the US think about themselves and not the greater good. They advertise and condition people that way, and people fall for it, but other countries are similar.
This is how I see some aspects of American culture: a preference for large trucks and spacious homes that may not always be the most efficient, combined with a diet that often leans toward processed or unhealthy foods and sugary drinks. Access to fresh drinking water and regular exercise also seem to be challenges for many. These habits can make people more vulnerable, not just in terms of health but also in fostering loneliness, as the lifestyle often prioritizes individualism over community connections, further impacting resilience and well-being. And you love money to much…
it's a vicious circle , the conditions are bad, the only way to escape it is having a lot of money, so everybody goes for money, making the conditions bad for everybody except the very rich
@ That’s why the ultra-rich label European social benefits as “communist”-it’s a deliberate attempt to gaslight the public. They aim to undermine systems that prioritize collective well-being while protecting their own wealth. It’s time to hold the ultra-rich accountable: tax the ultra rich!

Our law system is paid for by the people in the Netherlands, SKY. Our judges are paid by us, not by political parties or corporations. No advertisement is needed. I know exactly what you’re talking about. I grew up in the states but have now lived in NL for ages. Going back is always culture shock for me. When i grew up there we could drink tap water and it was great water but then they made the law about chlorinating the water and that was the end of that.
Chlorinating is one thing, doesn't taste good but is otherwise mostly harmless. However, by now most Europeans have heard about Flint, Michigan and the water situation there.
Before you mentioned this in the video I also noticed straight away, where is everyone ? I would have taken my laptop and did some work on the beach 🏝️
The last seriously cold winter we had in the Netherlands was 2010 (global warming, yay!). So, as long as temperatures are not below zero (celsius) all day long, we do not consider it to be really cold. (Also, my first visit to the US iwas in 1992, and we flew to LA. It was a total culture shock to me and my friend that we literally did not see anyone walking in the streets for the full 48 hours we spent there.
How can you not like to just walk 5 minutes to the super market or bakery in the morning to get your breakfast for that day with with fresh baked bread. I get you, i would never want to live somewhere where i have to drive to get my basic needs like just to get bread or milk and not have to stack up a bunch of food for the whole week. Happy new year, wish you and your family much health.
Always hated swimming pools because of the chlorine. Now they tell me even pools don't use it anymore. Tell me that's not ironic. Safe turning of the year and safe journey home all. 😇
nah I don't think hanging outside is a thing of the past in the states, because a city like NYC exists. Even excluding Manhattan, evidently people will go outside if there's stuff to do within a walkable or bikable distance. But there where you were? It was either all home or all store. And, if US urbanist channels are to be believed, the US is slowly (very slowly) turning the corner towards a more "european" style city
@@AnymMusic yes I agree. Same with certain areas in Chicago and LA.. people go outside… but i think that’s why people want more of that. It’s just not possible because of reasons you mentioned.. a looott of areas in the states are just not walkable… and place people would like to be in are unaffordable for a lot of people.. But think of how crazy that is…. Because back then (when I was younger)… people and kids were outside all the time.. and we didn’t live in hearts of cities… so what happened?
@@AnymMusic but Georgia has been by far the most driven to encourage people getting outside and out of cars… they started the beltline and the Netherlands has been investing in georgias infrastructure :)
Grew up in NL, I've been quite some times in the US. But I really love it over there. Yes there are many differences and I don't mind to take the car with the petrol prizes over there. ;)
Prices here on St Eustatius have strangely enough hardly gone up the last few years. Small island and honest shopkeepers that dont mark up if they dont have to. Makes you think.......
"I feel like I'm about to be kidnapped" Wow, just think about that sentiment.... That feeling. That's the result of car dependancy and it is also perpetuating car culture. People need to live closer together.
The commercial things is real. Even 15 years ago it was horrible. A 90 minute movie took three hours to finish because of commercials every 15 minutes. The sponsoring of everything, the X weather report or the sportsball brought to you by Karl's Junior etc. It's starting in the Netherlands as well and I absolutely hate it.
A thing I noticed about you walking in that neighbourhood at the end of the video... no side walk. That adds an inherent danger to walking. This discourages walking around the neighbourhood.
It still gets to me that a lifes necessity is not available in a country like the US. And yes groceries have gone up but nothing like what i hear from across the pond. Lets hope the majority off the people will change and start prioritizing the important things in life and not the size off their home or car. Have a great " Oud en Nieuw with the family, stay save. 😊
Watch …Not just bikes …to learn the truth about infrastructure. You were walking along a Stroad. Street road…worst kind of streets. Is sad..The Netherlands was the same but in the. 70’s they went progress for the ppl. As an American I love living here. No need for a car..got bikes, busses, trams and trains. Every neighborhood has a shopping street so can walk for all necessary items and more.
Why are those businesses still closetpot? Are the buildings damaged? Are the businesses not coming back because they expect another storm? How long ago was the storm?
Kid on the electric scooter was on his way to play video games at his friends house at the other end of the block. Just saying that’s my guess based on my own neighborhood .
Natural food flavored, chicken flavored, beef flavored. If it tastes like it, it smells like it, and it looks like it, doesn’t mean it is it. You cannot tryst anything, not even the price on the shelf or label. Check everything!
Fruits and veggies are fresh and cheap in NL, it is a food hub in NW EU. I always wonder why US roads are in poor condition as a car loving nation, a lot of holes, cracks and patches. My poor little Suzuki would fall apart on some roads. Enjoy the stay and lovely weather and best wishes for all of you in 2025!
15:20 really no side walk :/ these kind of stuff just blows my mind, they throw you on the street because you just want to walk, a house like that my kids would feel like they in prison and not to be safe to walk to a friend or to the nearest playground.
However, by now most Europeans have heard about Flint, Michigan and the water situation there.
walking clears the mind, I dont do it often enough
Before you mentioned this in the video I also noticed straight away, where is everyone ? I would have taken my laptop and did some work on the beach 🏝️
supermarket prices: that is because there is much more competition in Netherlands than in the USA. there are german stores in usa like Aldi and lidl.
It always amazes me how bad the roads are in the Us.
Here in the Netherlands the roads look perfect
Happy New Year🎉
How can you not like to just walk 5 minutes to the super market or bakery in the morning to get your breakfast for that day with with fresh baked bread.
I get you, i would never want to live somewhere where i have to drive to get my basic needs like just to get bread or milk and not have to stack up a bunch of food for the whole week.
Happy new year, wish you and your family much health.
Well you were in Michigan. You know about the whole Flint water thing and the Republican gouvernor? There’s a Michael More documentary on that
Always hated swimming pools because of the chlorine.
@@AnymMusic it’s so weird.. but on the bright side, Atlanta has been changing a lot for being more outdoor friendly.. and same with Detroit :)
@@AnymMusic but Georgia has been by far the most driven to encourage people getting outside and out of cars… they started the beltline and the Netherlands has been investing in georgias infrastructure :)
Happy New Year mate.
Hello Itz you make good video's some time I visit Haarlem you have their good places.I wish you and your family a good new year eve.
Have to say, if you are an introvert it's the perfect place 😂.
Not even going to lie, I never even noticed there was an epidemic 😂.
11:15 Yeah.... you've become a true Haarlemmer now my friend... No matter where you travel, the taste of the tap water will make you homesick
It's clear as day, @Itz SKY : you're turning native. 🤣
I liked that Stop sign at the start of your vid 🤣
They might be the noise of the cars who wants to hear that when you want to enjoy your coffee outside
"I feel like I'm about to be kidnapped"
Wow, just think about that sentiment.... That feeling.
That's the result of car dependancy and it is also perpetuating car culture.
People need to live closer together.
Happy 2025 and looking forward to your upcoming videos! Gelukkig Nieuwjaar!
Gelukkig nieuw jaar uit Zwolle :)
Enjoy your holiday with family and in your great homeland.
Not so great now!
Each state has its own nature, well that goes for each European country as well…
Happy New Year
HAPPY NEW YEAR..........
A thing I noticed about you walking in that neighbourhood at the end of the video... no side walk. That adds an inherent danger to walking. This discourages walking around the neighbourhood.
You ar now dutch hapy hapy en gelukkig Nieuwjaar
Hey Sky, happy new year buddy, yeah living in Florida you need a car for EVERYTHING!!
I wouldnt mind a home like that, i could use a good workshop space.
2:33 I hear you Anakin
Kid on the electric scooter was on his way to play video games at his friends house at the other end of the block. Just saying that’s my guess based on my own neighborhood .
Now i know why USamericans love their FREE water refills in restaurants!😁😁😁 We can drink our tap water at home! Its not real need for bottled water!
I see wide streets but where are the cars? The streets are way too wide!
The zoning laws dictate that.
@@PaulaBean it seems dangerous and a waste of space. also the maintenance costs will be more than a normal road.
Florida has good geographic profile for bike riding. A sunny Netherlands 😜
I saw how white the beach was and knew where you were... while being Dutch
Just a question, can you do a reverse video once? Where you sum up things that are better in Americans/America (not just nature and food)
About the water, indeed Americans pay hidden tax for clean water, water that's a lot more expensive then just here from the tap
Natural food flavored, chicken flavored, beef flavored. If it tastes like it, it smells like it, and it looks like it, doesn’t mean it is it. You cannot tryst anything, not even the price on the shelf or label. Check everything!
🥷🥷☕ I hope that you and your family have a good 2025! Keep the vids coming(still, shouldn't have sold the NSX 😘🤙)
15:20 really no side walk :/
these kind of stuff just blows my mind, they throw you on the street because you just want to walk, a house like that my kids would feel like they in prison and not to be safe to walk to a friend or to the nearest playground.
That street is just way too big and would easy fit 2 sidewalks, come on now.
America you can do better, just do it already !!!
Happy New Year Sky, all the best for 2025 for you and your family. Have a productive, prosperous and healthy 2025.
I hope to see a lot of your new vlogs in 2025.
