- Journey to the Château, Ep. 217 - In this Friday episode, Patrick and Stuart race against time and nature to get in their early summer harvests of red currants and plums from the chateau gardens. Patrick then uses the steamer/juicer to process the first batch of plums to use for future jams, jellies, and chutney. Patrick and Stuart also reveal their plans for the start of a new project renovation in the chateau.

The vignette behind you is beautiful.
The silver bowl with the fruit is a renaissance painting ❤
It really is.
I thought the same! So beautiful, a still life caught on camera
@CeciliaA1902 Me too! It looks beautiful, I was wondering if it was silver or maybe pewter, it's like a scene for a Christmas card...
I loved the fruit harvest. Fruits were beautiful and plentiful
I enjoy the many things you do. 😊
The beautiful bowl looked like an oil painting. ❤
Is it weird to say that I could listen to Mozart while watching you pick fruit, all day?! 😍😀😊
Dear Patrick and Stuart, you are so fortunate to have an established orchard with many varieties of fruit. And Patrick’s talents of knowing how to make delicious preserves and jams, the chateau was meant for you. Stuart, as if you have nothing on your list of things to do, the still life of plums should be a painting for the wall of your renovated walk-thru kitchen. Many hugs ❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much Stephanie. We are indeed fortunate (even though we compete with many birds to get fruit 😮😂😂. I believe that we are where we are truly happy. Am planning to paint the still life when we have time. I also will, paint 2 larger 17th century portraits for the grand salon. I always change something. Simply copying old masters is not our style. 😊. Hugs and much love from Colombe ❤❤❤
Hi Patrick and Stuart, Oh no, not another project...not that you don't have enough going on right now. I can't wait to watch the progress and the wallpaper going up in the petit salon. Mark & Scott
What a beautiful supply of fresh fruit you have. I bet your kitchen smells delicious while fixing your jams & wines. Kathy USA 🇺🇸
💜💙💚
What a beautiful still life behind you!
Your gardens are beautiful. All of that wonderful fruit. Now the plum port wine and cinnamon jam sounds so good. Thank you for sharing another great video.
The fruit and silver dish - looks like a Cezanne painting !❤❤The gardens are looking spectacular- obviously loved all that rain ❤ Enjoy the Tour de France !
We are so excited about the TDF. And the display of the fruit……. We were looking for a dish and I remembered this stunning silver bowl. Who knew it would look this good? 😊😊😊. Huge hugs from Colombe and the rain soaked gardens (who did love the rain) 😊❤
Your garden is beautiful. All the trees and plants you added to the ones already were in the property contribute to create a welcoming place to so many birds, butterflies, bees and so many other creatures. At the same time you have fresh vegetables and fruits to enjoy and prepare delicious meals for you and your guests. ❤
We love to see the many bees, butterflies and bumblebees. And the fruit we harvest is a blessing. We have plans for more trees and shrubs to be planted. It is so rewarding. Love from Colombe ❤
your so blessed to have mature fruit bearing trees etc . and your intro pic looks like a grand old master painting 🙂
I can’t wait to see all of your harvest cooking!
Your flowers are glorious! What a lovely life you’ve made! ❤
Hi Patrick and Stuart,
You two gentlemen are unstoppable ( energy wise). I certainly love watching/listening to Journey to the Chateau!!! Elizabeth in Texas
Thank you Elizabeth. We have our moments, when we feel completely devoid of all energy and then we pull ourselves up and carry on 😂😂😂. Huge hugs 😊
I absolutely love your fruit garden. Your flower garden is also very beautiful. I definitely would enjoy eating your jam. It looks so good. You have so many talents I’m amazed.
Peach cobbler is lovely in the fall.
What a beautiful cabinet ❤ and silver bowl! Love it 🥰 mmmm plumb jam !!
Looking forward to the renewal of the butler's pantry aka the side kitchen!
So glad to have caught up. Was away from any internet for a week. I missed you! Can’t wait to here about the Tour de France from you. I totally forgot what a sad room the side kitchen has been. Happy for you that it will be a much prettier and functional space. Hugs!
Oh, I have to add, the plums are gorgeous! They look like they are part of an exquisite still life. So pretty; it was hard taking my eyes off of them. I just wanted to soak in their colors.
Such lovely photography. Thank you for sharing your outdoor spendor.
The fruit is certainly in abundance.. Love how it looks like a still life displayed, just beautiful! The flowers are gorgeous too. 🌸🌺🌼
Thank you so much. 😊😊😊. Indeed, we have been blessed with an amazing harvest. Hug hugs. ❤❤
Your fruit harvest is picture perfect!! Thanks for sharing..
We certainly all have the soul of a poet: having had the same impression of seeing in this still life drawn by the freshly harvested plums, the silver bowl on the polished wooden background of your chest of drawers, an accomplished pictorial work.
So, perhaps I tell myself that all is not lost in this world which aims to be practical, pragmatic and materialistic...: all things that I find mortally boring.
It's thanks to characters like you, who liked to see in the past, not a cheesy and finite world that must be destroyed, or even hated, but on the contrary, a sort of bottomless abyss in which one must recharge one's batteries.
This past reminds us that the beautiful, the useless that they enjoyed is not just futile, but necessary to beautify life which is not always wonderful. It is this art of living that we have lost and which makes us so sad and disillusioned.
Life should not only be convenient and easy, it should also include efforts to make it beautiful and interesting. Life must also be a theater, a comedy, otherwise it has neither flavor nor charm. This is what our contemporaries lack, even if they have a more comfortable life than our ancestors.
They no longer know what beauty is, because they are generally surrounded by ugliness, and they no longer know how to appear. They're just practical and pragmatic, but so sad.
Salût Serge. I do love your comment! Even though it has a deep sadness. We too feel that many people no longer appreciate the beauty and charm and get stuck in a sad surrounding. We wanted to leave the constantly hectic world.
We usually work from about 7 to mostly 23:00 each day. Of course we go to brocantes, and see friends. We find picking fruit and making confitures connects us with the real world. Laying tiles, upholstering 17th century furniture and paining walls and portraits gives us a full life.
We do feel that our life is beautiful and we are glad we are sharing it. I never expected many people to be interested and we have humbled and grateful for wonderful comments like yours. Love from Colombe ❤
@@patrickjourneytothechateau9452 ❤ 🥰 Je suis heureux que mes commentaires retiennent votre attention et vous réchauffe le cœur.
Beautiful flowers and a great variety of fruits! Goods like your going to be busy ❤️❤️
The flowers, the fruit, the beautiful music. It was all restorative for me today! Thank you for sharing your beautiful world with us.
Thank you so very much Pamela. What a beautiful comment. Huge hugs ❤❤❤
@@patrickjourneytothechateau9452 Danke schoen. 🤗
I love everything you do with the fruit you grow. It’s a wonderful way to be in touch with the rhythms of the seasons. And the end product is truly a work of art!
Thank you so much. It is amazing what Mother Nature gives us. And the end product makes us proud and happy. Love from Colombe
The silver bowl of fruit would be stunning as a painting. It's simply beautiful and refulgent.
Hi Gail. I love it too and decided I will paint it in oil this winter. ❤❤❤. You have a great eye!
The plums look wonderful! Thank you for the video!
Plum jam is wonderful
Nature's Bounty is a blessing, getting ready to harvest here in NW Indiana, tomatoes, peppers, radishes and cucumbers for round one, usually lucky enough for multiple and Brussels Sprouts in the fall!
Thanks for taking us on this "Journey"
Thank you for being here with us. It has been quite a journey and we are excited about the future. Hugs to the two of you. ❤❤
I am SO jealous! Living in the state of Georgia [USA] there was only one thing in your garden I could grow here [three guesses: the peach 😂] - no hollyhocks, no fusia, no sour cherries, no currants [which were illegal for a while in the US].
The best plum tart I ever ate was made with the quetche d'alsace plum. Like the sour cherries, tart fruits make the most delicious preserves. Enjoy the bounty of your gardens! 🍒🍑🫒🍎🍋
You have some lovely fruit trees, I’m glad you found another project to start !
❤ I am too 😂😂😂. But honestly isn’t it amazing. I wasn’t prepared but Mother Nature is giving it and we need to be ready! ❤
Really like the thumbnail photo , beautifully styled. Well done
Such abundance of fruit and flowers! Inspiring! Peach and fig chutney? Plum and fig chutney? Beautiful flavors!
Your kitchen must smell wonderful this time of year 💕
Love the new project!
Your harvest of fruit on the armoire(?) is beautifully displayed. Great for still life for painting or photo shoots. Love it! Love your videos and your journey.
Hi I've watched since the beginning but this is my first post
I'd like to pass on a tip from my mumma when jam making if you warm the suger first before adding to the fruit it dissolves a lot quicker in the pot
Also the side kitchen would be a great place to display all your preserves in a gorgeous old cupboard
A few flowers around the bowl of plums would make a great still life picture .
Isn’t it just amazing! ❤❤❤
Wow you certainly have fruit in abundance and your flowers are gorgeous I have no idea how you remember what needs to be done 😊
Hi there. Sometimes it is just luck that we remember things need to be done. 😂😮. Great comment. Thank you ❤
That’s a great harvest of fruit! Looks delicious! The fruit in the baskets and silver on the table would make a beautiful painting! The warm wood, silver and shades of reds and plum absolutely beautiful! ❤ 🍎 🍒 Lots of work but worth it! Thanks for sharing!
Hello Brenda. Thank you indeed. I agree, the combination looks fantastic and I will one day pain that as a still life. And you are right, it is well worth it ❤😊
You are both doing an amazing job!! Cant wait to see what the corridor kitchen looks like when you are finished with it. Hope you are going to share cooking your plum/fig jams and chutneys,
Your display of fruit looked like a painting. Lots of canning ahead of you. How fun to use what you’re growing in your garden. I just love that!!!
Thank you so much. I feel motivated to paint this as a still life. ❤❤❤. Not soon but when I have time. Hugs from Colombe 😊
@@patrickjourneytothechateau9452 oh yes when you have time!! lol how about a little motivation ? Paint it and sell prints. I’ll buy one and I’m sure all your followers will purchase one also. Well just a thought. You both have exquisite taste I adore all the work you have done so far🥰
Beautiful harvest!! You are way ahead of us here in Southern Oregon. My plums are not even close to harvest. Just starting to take summer squash, new potatoes, and cucumbers out of the garden.
What a stunning thumbnail!
Thank you so much❤
The picture truly is a art piece
Thank you so very much ❤❤❤
Great idea to do side kitchen !!!!
Ok. I Just finished looking at the video. 😊 Good nait. ❤
Yes, get a print of the fruit and frame it and put it in your kitchen. It is beautiful.
Oh, the smells coming from that kitchen soon will be Devine. You have your own forrest garden. Wow, all of that fruit. Do you have an apricot tree? Looking forward to more. Lots of love. It is hot here in Surrey now.❤
Beautiful fruit
Oh lads, what a lot of hard work. Well done and good luck with the next project.😊💕😊
Peach salsa is really good as well.
Patrick and Stuart your garden flowers and fruit all look so lovely. You two are making so much headway, I think your plans for the side kitchen will make such a HUG impact on the flow of the enfilade (no more yelling at your fur babies). Till next time, hugs and stay well.
Thank you Ina. I am looking forward to the reworked side kitchen. And no more yelling indeed……. Hugs ❤❤❤
Really wonderful what you're achieving guys! It's truly awesome. The amount of fruit is absolutely amazing. You're wonderful how you're harvesting it all. It is fantastic the amount you have of different varieties. You will have an amazing amount for desserts, jams and chutney plus juices. Many greetings for you both from me down under plus Sir Toby doggy to your doggies. Am out of hospital now. Bfg 14 day cruise here from 13th! Best. David
Lovely fruit
I’m so jealous of all the wonderful fruit trees. I could see a nice plaque in front of each tree to state what kind it is. ❤❤
Wonderful! Love the music!
Hello de beaux fruits et de très jolies fleurs, à bientôt
When you see the TDF make sure you go early enough to see the publicity caravan go through. Nicola
We cannot wait to see them. We will be out there. We will have our bikes to get stuff if needed. Huge thank you for your input ❤❤❤
Wow, another winner! The opening segment showing your gorgeous flower garden, followed by a fantastic harvest and the making of jams, chutneys etc., etc., I can't wait to see the results! No pressure Patrick! Good luck getting the "other" project done with, hopefully soon. Look after yourselves!
You rock Norma! Thank you so much. I am looking forward to making new preserves. Hope people like the . Hugs ❤❤❤❤
Looking good guys! Well done
I was drooling seeing all the fruit you were harvesting. Reminded me of my years growing up. Mom had peach & plum trees & made wonderful jams & jellies!
We are always amazed seeing all the fruit and loving making the jams that so many people enjoy. I remember my grandmas making preserves. How wonderful! ❤❤❤. Hugs
What amazing flowers! And the fruit is overwhelmingly fantastic. 😁♥️ I’m still dealing with my raspberry harvest, so I empathize.
A great plan for the side kitchen!!! Removing what I call “daily inconveniences” makes such a massive difference. And restoring the look of the enfilad will be beautiful two. Great choice for the “next project.”
Stuart, once again you have given us the best cinematography of mother nature coupled with classical musical interludes. Patrick, you make me hungry with all of your fruit concoctions. I don't envy you both with excavating the concrete in the side kitchen, but at least you will have some help with the electrics and plumbing. Hugs from Philadelphia. Oh, have you considered putting up netting on your trees to protect your fruit from birds and mammals?
The garden's are absolutely stunning !
Love you guy's! ❤
Thank you so much. 🥰🥰🥰. You are so kind 😊❤
Wow, what an abundant harvest! Good you both have large hands to pick quickly :) If only you could clone yourselves and have gardeners as well as renovators working simultaneously, but I guess that's why you have 16 hour work days, lol
Naughty Fox 😉 Thank you Donna!🤣🤣🤣 Great idea to juge up the little kitchen way ❤
So much fruit so little time, i don't know how you both have the energy for everything you do, have a great weekend xxx
You are so right. We feel that we need 36 hour days! 😂😂😂. Totally true. We steal time, I think 😊. Love your comment. Thank you ❤
Seeing those deep purple plums made my mouth water! Lol!
New plans for that side utility is perfect. It will make such a difference to living. Look forward to seeing it grow.xx
Záběry květin jsou naprosto úchvatné. Švestky super se mi na ně sbíhaly sliny. Moc vám kluci držím palce.
Thank you Irena. We are excited for the next harvests. Hugs and love from us. ❤❤❤
It was so wonderful to see all of your different fruit trees 💛
Those dahlias are magnificent as are the fuchsia ❤
You could scatter some of the wild plum pits strategically and see if any take. Maybe out on the fringes so the critters will eat those rather than the ones close-in. (Well, one can hope!!! LOL!) The silver compote full of plums would make a great still life painting or photograph. It certainly is frameable. I am so excited about your nature's bounty! Wish I could help pick and preserve it all! I love the new project. The petit salon is incredible! I really think it is becoming one of the jewels of the chateau!
Exciting plans for the side kitchen. Looking forward to it. Lovely seeing what you do with all the fruit. Enjoy the Tour de France🇫🇷
ThNk you so much Barbara. We are excited about the Tour and I am thrilled to be making my first jams of the year. And all for Christmas ❤🎉❤. Love from Colombe 😊
What a magnificent harvest 🎉 So uplifting for you to reap the rewards of all off your hard work. 😊😊😊
Lovely thanks!
So lucky with all the fruit and berries!! ❤ things just taste better homemade (unless my grandmothers made it. Both of them were horrible cooks!😂)
Isn't it just fantastic to walk outside your home to pick fruits and veggies? Love your videos! ❤️
Danielle, you are absolutely right, it feels wonderful. Thank you so very much ❤❤❤ from Colombe
Thank-you Patrick and Stuart, love the inclusions of your garden, and the beautiful Dahlia's, so many wonderful varieties, Stuart your choices of music are stupendous thoroughly enjoyed it., and Patrick looking so forward to your chutneys and jams, and all things in the kitchen my goodness enjoy it all who am I kidding lol . Looking forward to the Tour De France video, until next time, take special care...
All sounds delicious great that you're using your fruit in such a variety of ways
Plum wine would be really good.
The fruit trees are loaded, the jam sounds yummy!
WOW! Such a great harvest! Plums are really a beautiful fruit and taste great too! Enjoy the "fruit" of your labor😘💕
Looks like a Renaissance painting! Beautiful!
yes yes I have tons of the pits around from the foxes
You two have so much drive. You're an inspiration to many.
❤️ from TX!
Wow you two don’t stop! It’s fabulous that you both utilise the bountiful fruit from your trees to make your jams and chutney and frozen fruit. Well done.
Also the side kitchen project will be great to allow easier access as well as new flooring, more efficient usage and more storage. It will make life easier, particularly with serving of food in the dining room. Pity it will involve so much work and mess eh? Still you both will make lemonade from the lemons.
I admire the drive you both have in moving through the château renovations. I’m also nearing completion of reorganising and furnishing my city apartment so I can certainly sympathise although I’m not taking on the amount of work and renovations you both are. Still it’s always tiring both doing the work and the mental gymnastics required. So I can sympathise.
Hope the Tour de France celebrations are fabulous for you and your friends and visitors. And hope you find that essential steamer. ❤️❤️
So much beauty! The flowers in your garden, the fruit on the trees, as well as beautifully displayed in the video. Looking forward to seeing the side kitchen as it becomes another helpful space. I remember when you made jam last year and it all looked so good. This season will be just as good. ❤
Great job harvesting the fruit. We are having fruit envy here.
Thank you Edmund. It is so satisfying to harvest and create jams, chutneys and cook one’s own veggies. Wishing you a lovely fruit harvest! ❤❤❤
Fabulous music as always. So glad side kitchen being streamlined it was always annoying to see the chicane of sink & washing machine in the way. Everything on the opposite wall a great transformation and if all white goods are 'under counter' height, then a long straight worksurface could be installed from end to end of space together with wall cupboards. Extensive uses when multi-people catering/function/party nights, as per Butler's pantry often located next to the dining room in period houses in the UK. Super project to help you in the future.👍
Ohhhhh that sink/washing machine combo was awful where it was! Cannot wait to look down the enfilade without obstacles❤❤❤❤. Love your comment. Thank you 😊
i thought it was a painting , very nice guys 🤩 liking your lemons 😜 the garden looks so lovely x , all the best Yx
Lovely produce from the chateau, and a perfect thing for an accomplished chef! It would be terrible to waste all the wonderful things, so mature and productive. I love to watch the prep and I guess we can all smell it from there! I used to make Damson Plum from a neighborhood tree. I miss that tree now that we aren't there now. Enjoy your chayeau. We do!
Plum butter is lovely never made it but have bought it before. Jams are just as deelicious as well :) I have tried to make before but failed better at the chutneys me. Thanks for the asmr garden looks beautiful I needed that as a friend passed recently and still feeling off from it not looking forward to the funeral at all. Never heard of plum wine sounds interesting. I hope your new project makes your kitchen more functional.
Enjoy the Tour De France. It’s an amazing atmosphere. Don’t wear yourselves out, enjoy the sunshine when you can.
Journey to the Chateau recently popped into my video 'feed' so I watched it and have been hooked ever since. I have binge watched all episodes and really look forward to each new post. I think that both of you are extremely talented and hard working - keep up the great work!
Thank you! 💕
Fruit for the taste and flowers for eyes to see !❤
When looking at the plums wanted to hear sugar plum fairy!
The colors of the plums behind you are gorgeous. From the yellow.gold to the deep plum. Find myself thinking of them being used in a room or two. Would be a rich wonderful way of tying the inside of the Chateau to the outside. The room would just be stunning. Just a thought. Loved every moment. Thank you, gentlemen. Carry on.
Gracias por mostrar tan bella ecenografia de fondo esta espectacular, es digno de un cuadro.❤
