Your comment about the 90’s resonated with me. I’m a Chicago Latin King who came up in the early 90’s and the shit these shorties are doing today would never have been tolerated. I don’t know how it is in LA but this cyber banging shit wouldn’t fly with the OG’s of the 90’s I got a 3 minute head to toe violation for throwing up the Crown on the news at the Bulls rally when the Bulls won their 3rd Championship. We were not allowed to interact with the media and filming yourself talking shit would be seen as careless and cowardly. You kept your mouth shut and if you were putting in work you let your actions speak for themselves. We also fought a lot more, if you seen ops it would lead to a brawl. People needed to get the blessing of their superiors to shoot someone unless someone was shooting at you. Chicago is all in the headlines now because of the gang violence but it was actually worse in the 90’s. The difference is in the 90’s neutrons weren’t getting shot like they are today because you didn’t show up to someone else’s hood and shoot some random dude you suspect is a flake. Hits were intentional and planned and earned by the fool who was getting hunted. We were organized, disciplined and had respect for families and neutrons and it wasn’t about trying to get clout or talking yourself up. You wanted respect from your brothers and your hood and you got it by keeping your mouth shut and handling business like a man. Being down and not being stupid, the Black gangs in Chicago likes to talk a lot of shit and go back and forth, Mexicans especially Latin Kings were about keeping your mouth shut and letting your actions speak louder than words. Someone dissed you knock him out and make an example. Today these kids get straight to shooting and claim everyone they shoot is an op and most of the time they’re scared unarmed neutrons. It’s more savage then ever but it’s also without honor and cowardly. In my day that would get your Crown stripped and probably killed.
What happened in Chicago was the cops locked up all the leaders in the early 2000’s and it left all these shorties unsupervised with all this firepower and everything went to shit. There were more deaths in the 90’s but far fewer innocent civilians killed. It used to be Latin Kings fighting GD’s and now you have GD’s beefing with BD’s who used to be allies and I’ve heard rumors that South Side Latin Kings are at war with North side Latin Kings.
