Man, I'm also from the West Coast and lived in East Los Angeles(Lynwood, went to El Sereno High) back in the 90's and boy, those Mexicans were prejudice AF towards me and other blacks in general. I now live in northern Cali bay Area and the relations are better but there's still some tension. One thing I also notice is Mexican immigrants come here and spread more prejudice which is unfortunate.
It haven't been just my experiences but I had numerous homeboys that got jumped by Mexicans. I never understood why many of them are so prejudice towards us given that racist white people hate us both but it is what it is I guess.

The South Side is very segregated with some pockets of Black and Latin together. You have a couple of old school Irish, Italian spots too. You go to the WestSide you have Humboldt Pk which is known as a Puerto Rican neighborhood. You see more of the mixing of Latino and Black kids running together. Up North where I'm from you have the most diverse neighborhoods mixed with everything including other Caribbean, Middle Eastern, and Africans with the mix of upper middle class people. 200 percent.
