  • Here Chris Halton visits an almost forgotten 13th century Suffolk church which has some amazing medieval wall art, and as you always expect, a little bit of the paranormal too!
    Historical background (from CCT website)
    `This 13-century flint church, with a Tudor brick-topped tower, is hidden away up a track past one of the oldest houses in England. Behind the altar the walls are alive with Medieval paintings - pick out St Margaret with her dragon and St Catherine with her wheel. The saints are elegant and almost ghostlike, with strange blackened faces from the chemical alteration of the paint over time.. There are also wall plaques to the local Brewse family -- one with the doll-sized figure of John Brewse, kneeling in eternal prayer. `

    For reasons best known to UA-cam I have found leaving individual comments especially difficult as often the reply boxes disappear. If I haven`t acknowledged your comment, you will hopefully understand why. My apologies. I wish UA-cam would be left alone by Google. All these `improvements` are causing mayhem :(

    This is an awesome lesson in history. Loved the wheel of life painting and the three women saints. Echoes of the Goddess those saints.

    Wonderful! I get the feeling that although you met a female in spirit here, there would be no negativity from her, I got the feeling she was just a worshiper in a place she loved in life. I felt a great sense of serenity in this building.

    Hi Chris, this is camilo, due to the new and horrible youtube/google+, i have decided to change my name to superman since i have always used this image and i dont want to use my fullname. First i want to say that your show is fantastic, i feel so good every time i watch it, you are a good host and you make everything very interesting. Secondly i want to say that it is a shame that i cant find you relatively close to me to shake your hand and thank you for your work. Every e is so.. refreshing and inspirational. You made me think in the great quality of the old tv presenters..
    About the video, i think they should restore those wall paintings, or they will be lost forever, i see it in this case as the best option. You know, in a moment I felt a particular smell when seeing the church inside, the smell of an old house... old wood furniture. Please keep it up, about the evp, maybe the voice said "my captain" or "my guardian" at 19:55, have a good day :) and i hope to know from you very soon.

    What a beautiful place! And your comments about it having a 'feminine' and gentle feel to it tied into something I was already thinking: that there's an interesting glorification of the feminine there, very nearly a hailing back to pagan times. The three female saints are VERY odd to find all alone-- Margaret the Virgin, who slays the dragon; Catherine the wise, possibly based on the quite non-Christian Hypatia of Alexandria (though the painter may not have known that, of course); and the Magdalene, who was erroneously depicted as a harlot in later centuries but supposedly in the early gospels was simply a fallen woman who raised herself up to follow Christ among his disciples and to help fund them all with her own resources-- more of a protective figure than a whore or concubine. And then there's the ultimate mother-image, Mary cradling the sacred Child... It's all speculation on my part, but it's still there. Interesting, as I said.

  • @bandersnatchful
    @bandersnatchful 6 років тому +1

    I'd have to disagree about the intended complexion in these paintings. I'm totally getting they're depicted as they should be. I'm feeling these pigments were meant to oxidize as an intended reveal when it was time when it might be accepted.

    I don't understand why the queen wouldn't give up some of her millions to preserve the history of her country for future generations. The Royals waste so much money on frivolous things. If I was British, I would be up in arms over the loss of history. So many beautiful buildings are rotting, while they live the high life for doing nothing.
