instead of running a tap through all the threads, thread some old Bolt's in the holes before you start priming- painting. it will save all kinds of time. I'm a painter and I run a thread chaser ( not a tap) before I thread some old Bolt's in, I also put Cork's in swingarm holes etc, and I tape the moter mounts. if you cut the paint off with a blade, it leaves an edge that will definitely Peel ( especially if the paint is thick) in all honesty, this stuff is just common sense

also, using an air tool and disc to clean off the motor mounts rounds off the edges, needs to be nice and flat, use a file to finish it after scraping paint off.

    Great job, guys!
Bob sure makes it look easy; but we know it ain't... Still can't believe he made the frame without a jig and a rotisserie.
    I love the music too.
I wonder what do you think are the pros and cons between a chain vs a belt.

One thing I would do differently, I would of did a diagram of the motor mount to the frame. That way metal color wouldn't of shown next to the black color on the motor...

With you there buddy, was thinking the same. I piece of cardboard cut out to the motor mount size would have given the area to strip paint. Shame about that.

Wow, I guess if somebody had taken the time to put some cheap masking tape on before painting and that would have saved a lot more time. But you get what you get pay for on a shoe string budget.

hi..i have also built a harley softail style frame..you know..joe, from the universal cycle corp built me a main frame to support a tc88b injected engine, a 5 gear shift transmission, a swingarm to receive a 150/80 R16 tire..i changed the front end of the main frame, which is not a dual tube downtube but it s curved over the regulator and then comes a single tube to the neck steem 2 inches longer, so as the backbone, a squared tube 2 inches longer..the neck steem is 34 degrees..i used those flht front fork lowers so i could instal a dual disc rotor system..the triple trees are peace performance makd of thick hard aluminum..the problem is that as i live in brazil, i need both the main frame, swingarm, forks, and wheels dimensions so i make a drawing plan which is signed by a friend of mine who is an industrial engineer..would you mind to help me in this case as the makers closed their company and are retired now? thanks. jorge.

@@jerrybigrig9475 hi..sure..you know..i made some modifications on a flstfi fat boy..the only problem is that due to pandemic the paperwork is ok just now..but everything is ok..you know..i have some great time mostly with a help from a very good group of friends..first joe redondo, from universal cycle corp in pensilvania made me a wonderful frame without that front fork locker..do not mind..the main tube which goes from the neck to the handlebar is much wider than the original harley..then goes a riser and then the handlebars..joe is a Gods gift..he made me a frame based on the original but with a few modifications..then a turner friend of mine helped me with cutting the right side of the front wheel so i could install a dual brake..i bought a front dual brake oil cylinder complete with tubes to bring oil to the two brakes..than i replaced the original fat boy footrest by pedals which made my feet to be anchored ahead of its original flstfi position..great..i did not use those front forks mertal covers which goes to the back of the headlight..instead i installed a bullet 7" headlight..instead of those metal covers i used a rubber cover for the upper front fork..than a pair of hard aluminum pierce performance upper fork bracket and stem assembly..you know..then came the motor which i bought sending parts of the total amount to joe..then his nephew bruce bought the 2006 tc88b new all the way into a wooden box, separeted the main part from the pistons and send to me here in brazil..bruce is also a Gods gift..then came the ucm..oh my god..mine was a 2004 one and the motor is a 2006 tc88b..the last one before harley started producing the tc96b in 2007..i met a wonderful frien in curitiba city, parana state here in brazil..i also bought a new ecm from a seller in canada, and sent it to that friend who i knew in parana..they programmed the ecm and just a few seconds after i received the ecm and installed it on my bike, i turned on the keys and switch and voila..my bike started screaming..wonderful sound..what a machine..i love it..you know..i am getting older and some day i will need to sell that bike..but anyway..i am having a great time now..thanks for asking..best wishes. jorge.
