  • This is how I did it. There doesn't seem to be any rule-of-thumb directions out there. This is just another opinion to consider in the DIY world. The European gear can be very expensive to obtain parts. After hours of research, I felt very comfortable with this procedure. Sorry about the video quality. I did this all while trying to work and hold the camera. For those that want the rest of the story, Tannoy uses Ferrofluid APGS15N if you just wanted to order some. Syringe comes with 0.3ml. I would prefer about twice that much.

    Does anybody know where to buy this in the United States?
    I’ve seen some for JBL speakers, but I want to make sure that I get the correct one.

    Thanks for this video. I’m replacing a diaphragm that was pushed in. Should I fill or replace the ferrofluid if it looks like it’s mostly still there?

      I would clean out the old and replace with the new that you received with your diaphragm.

      @@augustusd1 my diagraphm replacement did not come with ferrofluid. Is it worth ordering if the speaker hasn’t been burnt out?

      If it still looks wet with ferrofluid down in the pole piece slot it should be fine. I was surprised at how little ferrofluid was actually needed.

    May I ask why did you change the diaphragm itself? You didn't find just changing ferrofluid enough or the tweeter was broken in general?

      You must find someone on EBay that has them for sale. They are not manufactured anymore.
      I bought these old stock pieces from Great Britain. $125 each. The speakers sound phenomenal!!!

    • @Envinite
      @Envinite 6 років тому +2

      You can, but you shouldn't. Speaker with ferrofluid has its gap that holds the coil much deeper because the ferrofluid needs to stick into that gap. Adding ferro would probably spill it once you turn on the speaker.
      Also there's no advantage whatsoever putting ferro on non ferrofluid cooling speaker. Ferrofluid was used to cool the heat from voice coil of a speaker driver with higher power, if your speaker don't come with it, that means your speaker power is low enough to make the cooling benefit of ferro fluid unnecessary.

    A couple of years worth of rock music at high volumes and the fluid will thicken.
