Thanks Oly, I've been following your blog for a few years. Nice to see you 'in person'! I've in my mid fifties and recently returned to railway modelling after 35 years and so much has changed - especially the prices unfortunately. Like you and many others I'm pushed for space and budget is a bit limited but certainly not minscule so I can afford a modest amount of Peco code 75 and a basic Z21 DCC setup on an 8'x2' shunting plank but definitely not DCC sound or sophisticated DCC control systems and luxuries like Tortoise point motors. So I'd love to hear more from you on your exploits to extract maximum realism and performance from a modest budget while increasing skills and especially having fun in the process. I follow a few youtube model railway channels and enjoy them but the layouts are way out of my scope and there is a requirement on youtube for skilled modelling like yours but on a realistic set of constraints that many of us on average salaries with other commitments have to abide by.
Who needs point motors on a shunting plank? Rod and tube will be more than good enough. You can even switch the live frog polarity with a slide switch in your rod and tube setup...
Good comments. Like you I am building on a budget. Half the layouts on UA-cam seem to have a bank balance behind them which must be belonging to a retired doctor, solicitor, or rocket scientist!
Great video Oly. I love that layout, it looks superb and like all your layouts creates a wonderful atmosphere. Look forward to seeing some more videos.
Thanks for the shout out regarding the Drewy 04, only just found your channel. Subbed. :) Love the layout, cheap or not it oozes grit n much in the right way. Good stuff. I'm building a couple of layouts on my channel, may interest. All the best!
Really nice layout that captures the scene rather well. Would love to see a track plan and/or some more photos on your website that show the right-hand end of the layout a bit more.
To supply one "top filth" Allagash link: ua-cam.com/video/RSmijDpBIts/v-deo.html I'm a big fan of both the Allagash and OTCM, so not surprised to hear that you are, too. Link here is to Mike's channel, but there are many more Allagash videos available by subscription via Model Railroad Hobbyist / TrainMasters TV. Highly recommended as a lesson in both technique and in "seeing" the world; i.e., modeling not based on model railroad conventions, but on experience of the 1:1 world. Best wishes.
Any chance of some shunting videos using the way bills? I am looking to use something similar, after seeing how the gentleman uses them on Deresly. It world be nice to just see some closeups on the shunting too.
Nice. Subscribed. Really glad to see how a realistic layout can be built on a low budget, because it often frustrates me to see the thousands which some people are able to throw at this hobby to achieve the look I want. And you have just shown that it is possible on a budget. I love the idea of a single sound chip for all locos. Sounds is one thing that world makes me move to DCC, if it was much cheaper, but I'll have to stick with analogue. But I do wonder if a hybrid could be developed to use dcc sound via a raspberry pi or arduino sending the correct signal to a motor and sound chip?
Du très beau modélisme ferroviaire, vous travaillez vraiment bien. Bravo. 👍😉
Inspiring. It looks fantastic. Love the leaf scatter over the track. Very good indeed.

Thanks John, hopefully we can fill that void of 'budget finescale(ish) modelling' !

Great modelling love the weathering on the layout.

Good to see you back Oly!!
"Like a cat you don't like"
An little beauty. Great to see Suffolk set in this era. We are still waiting for exhibitions to take place here in Australia. All the best
Genius with the TTS sound chip!
Looks great, very Iain Rice...
If would also be great if you could do a short "how to" video for your wild hanging basket grass!
We can do that, I will try and do a much shorter video explaining how I do the grass. Oly
@@otcmmodelling - that will be awesome! Great channel BTW.
Nice layout do you have the track plan to show , Thanks
Oh its u guys, i know your layouts 👍🏻 hope the vids come thick and fast 😊

Sounded like Richard , thanks for that .
Can you give the link to the American modelling/layout that you mentioned please?
What are the coaches in the video Oly?

Thank you, we also signed up to Trainmasters TV, I love the operations videos from Mike. Its from these that inspired my really basic operations.
Gotta love a bit of backwards reasoning!
Any chance of some shunting videos using the way bills? I am looking to use something similar, after seeing how the gentleman uses them on Deresly. It world be nice to just see some closeups on the shunting too.
Yes of course we were thinking of doing a little filmed ops session
@@otcmmodelling good man! That will be bloody awesome on your layout!

I'll do a deeper video on the DCC sound, you should be able to do it under £60.
@@otcmmodelling - Thank you. That is pretty much all of be willing to spend! I like your car cost analogy.
