A pulley system would probably work great with this root cellar.

You could also install a remote thermometer and/or hydrometer to monitor temp and humidity from inside your home. Make adjustments accordingly with ventilation and temp control.

I love it. Put a burlap bag on a rope or a big muck bucket on ropes to lower items.

Terry, we used to be neighbors to the Reichardt’s on the Chena Hot Springs Rd. Wondering if your husband was in that family? Not many of the homesteaders are still out in Two Rivers. If so a shout out to you. Thanks because I was wondering if the crops would freeze in a root cellar. Thanks for the heads up on plastic vs wood and cinder blocks vs wood.

How bizarre. I can't think of another less practical way to have a root cellar. From the heavy door, to the steep stairs, to the improbable ease of carrying anything up and down..and at her age???. My goodness. This should be a 'how not to' have a root cellar.

      She seems pretty capable.
