  • Located in the remote section of Venango County, PA - you will find a natural gem known to locals as Freedom Falls. This secluded waterfall stands at 20 feet tall and stretches 50 feet across the tranquil waters of Shull Run. This area is rich in history and features a beautifully-constructed iron furnace from 1832 named the "Rockland Furnace," which was in operation until 1852. If you travel further downstream you will discover a long tunnel carved into the hillside regarded as the "Rockland Tunnel." Unfortunately we did not have time to hike down to the tunnel, which sits on the banks of the Allegheny River. Sit back, relax and I hope you all enjoy today's adventure to yet another one-of-a-kind location.

Lot of prehistoric Indian petroglyphs in that area.
Across the river ,from the look out, there use to be a state hunting lodge, all that land is state game lands. There is a look out on that side also, you can only get to it by trail.

This place is just breathtaking. Thank you for the info, I would love to return during peak fall foliage to explore more of this region as well as the State game Lands. I hope you have a great day and thank you for watching. I appreciate you.

Love the video. I've been here so many times through the years. One of my favorite places for sure but please don't keep referring to this small tributary stream as a river! It does however empty into an actual river, the Allegheny River, which is about a hundred yards downstream from the falls.😆

🤔I though🧠when that furnace was hummin, they were just dumping EVERYHRING into the crick💭😂AND THEN!😮 “oh look! greenish glass!” r / itsslag
it’s slag, dumped out at the bend. It’s worthless, but pretty; polish it. PS rhododendrons* were probably mountain laurel. Much more impressive and rare in the summer, but identical in winter.
PPS The 814 places are much better in the early summer, rather than trying to catch the leaves🍁

PPPS if you are ever back in the area, the best falls are very near the intersection of 79 and 80
