Wow. What happened to lose the trap? I've had a couple stolen with obvious evidence. Chains cut with cutters. Was that one staked or disposable stake?

I've only had 1 other trap pulled out, 2 years ago, and I never found it. That was cross staked with 2 pieces of 18 inch long half inch rebar. I doubt that trap was stolen I can't imagine someone taking the time to make a trap circle like that.

@@ethanw.outdoors on 2 coyotes I had stolen they made the catch circle before the thief got there but on those 2 they left the traps so I could catch them another coyote. The chain cutting happened on another property. Traps were wired but they cut the chains. Nothing's worse than this situation you faced. And I agree I don't think yours was stolen by the looks of it. You might look closely at the ground to try and see which direction it headed. I know that may be tough or impossible. You have to be CSI. If there were stakes on it it should tangle up in the brush ? For the ribcage to be out there was a trip. Well we know it was a good set and patients paid off on one hand. I won't forget this one.

I checked for trap entanglement both in the wood and in the woven wire fence along the neighbors and never found anything. We'll probably never know what happened

@@ethanw.outdoors this made me think about stakes with a 3 inch v at the bottom so if they get pulled they still act as a drag. Don't know but I've had that idea for a while just haven't tried to play with it
