Just from reading the title, I knew the answer was, "You don't." 😎 Best quote - "Mommy showed me." BUSTED! Poor kid didn't know what he was saying. LOL
Yea I didn't make it out of Tractor Supply without chicks this year! But in my defence I only got 4 and they are our very first chicks :) I cannot wait to get more!!!! ~~Vicki~~
+Little Creek Homestead - we always say that as well! It could've been worse, we could've bought them all! We got 10... a full on purchase would have been 20 for us. So we did ourselves a solid by taking it easy 😀
@@oldchickenlady hey might aswell try, gonna be my excuse too ;-) except mine is the same way. Think it may be state law but idk. Gotta look it up. I live in kentucky. I know the 6 or more applies to blue ducks!! (That's one of our rather... strange laws)
I have 2 and one has a problem with pecking a single hole in every egg she can. Some of our other ladies take to protecting the eggs until I collect them and they arnt even broody at the moment. I love them ladies
+Giles Hanover - yes! We usually cap it at 20 for the bigger purchases, but we have some other chick raising plans this year as well, so we have to save room for them!
Giles Hanover I have 15 currently, next year I'm going to try to get some more of what I got in 2015, they are still laying (slower but better than an hen iv ever had) pretty sure they were called golden comets.
I did it too. This would be the second time that I walk into tractor Supply at chick days and come out with 10 chicks and then remember I have 14 eggs in the brooder at home. Lol. Eli told on mommy just like my oldest does with me. So cute.
The most awesome flock I ever had was an impulse purchase from Tractor Supply. The chicks were very affordable since they were a straight-run mixture of breeds. Once grown, they were a sight to behold, grazing out back. Like a Christmas tree or a beautiful quilt. We ate the boys and loved on the girls. I will always have fond memories of that flock, and given a chance I will do it again.
Can't resist, won't resist. Started with 2 now have 21 lol 5 more Thursday. My wife says no more chickens but if you bring any home tomorrow they better be silkies this time. I love it because I called and they have them in stock. So excited
I have 2 ducks. I had never intended to raise ducks until one day I walked into the pet store and there were these adorable little ducklings ! Our girls are 3 months old now and doing really well they have heaps of room to free range during the day and are very spoilt.
Ok, now I'm going to have to go to the Home Depot that's further away so I don't tempt myself with a stop at the feed supply store! Thanks for sharing, and great editing and graphics you really are getting creative! ps, brooder supplies are due in any day now and the chick's are in at my feed supply store! Oh boy! What am I getting myself into here!!!
I was near a farm store yesterday and really wanted to look at the ducklings! Never mind that our current house in St Louis has no yard for ducklings. We had two when we lived in Virginia! I miss that time!
you are such a great dad (and of course a good mom too 😊) Your children are so happy, it’s great to see! I laughed in the moment you showed the chicken box 🤭😂 God bless you all. Your videos make me happy and I learn a lot from them.
We waited a few weeks and grabbed a ton of "senior chicks" for 50cents or $1 each... feel really good with the price point and better servivel rates...
+Alena Woodfield - ummm... he didn't help a bunch raising those chickens. But the layers are still in the flock & the meat birds were processed in this video: ua-cam.com/video/NJih1TISu-Q/v-deo.html
Ok, right..but I saw those 6 excited eyes!! Any excuse is better than none..lol!! I like the shark attack music..that is the same music I hear when I walk into TSC!! I am weak too. Loved those sweet little boys faces. 😍😍
Hahahahaha! Always good for a laugh and entertainment. Paul was glaring me down when you said resist the chicken buying. Lol... Guess how I resist?! Wrath of husband lol but we don't have meat birds yet....hmm 🤔
+St. Fiacre's Farm - meat birds are an easy way to feed the chicken addiction and then they're in your freezer in 8-12 weeks. A good temporary solution that doesn't punish your feed bill for too long!
+Mahealani Whitehead - haha, I figured it would be pretty obvious. I filmed a different ending, planning on not buying chicks, then we caved. Oh well, caught Becky by surprise when we came home with them, she really didn't know we got any!
Lmao .... brilliant. .. was loving the robot.. ... then boom !. There's the chicks... lol Bless little man saving his money. ... sounds like he is already a responsible little fella. My son hasn't got the concept of saving as yet!. Lol

Only reason I thought you would have got some farm/feed store chicks is because they have a variety you don't already have. I got burnt a number of years ago, I was supposed to have had at least 50% pullets and I got 90% roosters. So I am going to get mine from a hatchery where I get a guarantee on sexing, or I am going to get young pullets that are just ready to produce or just started producing.
we were looking at chicks also. i was trying to talk shikara into getting some but that was a big no. we had a hen hatch out ten chicks last year. they are fun to look at but we have enough chickens
+Dustin Dean - we've been working hard to sell a chunk of our flock to make room for more this year. We've sold about 25 so far... less feed costs lets me justify the chick raising to Becky!
I know this is 10mos old, but i work at TSC and own chickens. It is beyond hard not to come home with cute little fuzzy babies. What's worse is husband said i can add more to the flock this year. Oh boy that chicken math is gonna hit hard!!!
I did the same with my son. We got 6 chicks. 5 hens and 1 rooster. My son helped me build a chicken coop and he had to check the food and water. The wierd thing was everyone who bought easter chicks or baby ducks for easter ended up dumping their birds into our back yard. 6 ended up 9 and 4 ducks( they were dyed pink blue and purple) and one day i came home to all the chickens and ducks cowering in a corner hiding from a very young turkey hen. I had to find a family in rhe country to um" adopt" the ducks and turkey. Its wierd how everyone likes to buy cgicks and baby ducks for easter but dont think about the end
This is a really difficult time, seeing all the new chicks and not being in a place to get any yet. But I will hold on to the plan and resist the temptation! ;)
Why would you want to "resist" baby chicks. Eggs and meat are not the only thing. Best therapy you can get. Just sit and watch them as chicks and hens. Helps to relax and get rid of stress. You will stress out more thinking about not getting chickens. So just get them and relax. That is my thoughts. At least that is what I tell others when they give me "the look". Plus it is a great way to deal with Winter not being over yet and spring not here yet. For my brooder I use a rabbit cage with a light inside and a blanket covering. That way I can see them better.
I bought 4 just before quarantine shutdown last year. Best purchase I made. They were such a blessing and a bright spot to a very dark time. They stayed in my livingroom for several weeks. We only have 7 but we have a broody girl hatching eggs today and I wasn't expecting a winter clutch. indisappeared a few weeks ago and hubby found her in the corner of our shed with a dirt floor. As of this morning i think there are 2 but she's on everyone elses eggs too so i don't know how many will hatch. Momma is very warm and they are out away from the wind and rain. Just thankful we're in SC with milder shorter winters but it still gets pretty cold. Trying to allow momma Mercy do her thing but will bring her and the babies in if needed. Hubby said no more chicks but I still don't think I can get my feed at TSC and not come home with more. Plan on raising our own mealworms. Do you have any videos on that? I just started watching you guys today and have watched several Really love your family and homestead! Is there an update on his chicken raising?
White House on the Hill true. Our neighbors guneas moved in lol. Our tree is now their home. They are indeed loud, but they are absolutely hilarious and eat bugs. I'm glad our next door neighbor got them.
+Azalea Acres - the kids are loving those two. It helped provide light for the birds last night... since we don’t have a heat lamp on them, the window let in light from the outdoor light pole so they could see to eat and drink

😂😂😂😂 the struggle is real! I really want some lavender Orpingtons but don’t want to chance the rosters at the moment.
+Mama Bear’s Homestead - if you get some from Heartland, we can take the roosters from you. We want to raise some more lavender orpingtons this year.
