With all do respect, there are other better examples of artists than the ones you've mentioned who became the forefront of change, we should also be allowed to open the question what it means to be an artist and their medium
If one considers photography an art form, the photograph by Nick Ut of the girl running away from napalm bombing at Trang Bang changed the world as it galvanised the hippie movement and American public opinion against the war. Similarly the pairings of native Americans by george Catlin, the diagram of a slavers ship which showed the British public the cramped conditions on board, guernica..,, the issue is that todays art world is one of private galleries and museums that don’t engage with the public at large. Art in precious eras was often displayed in churches and was very public. It’s a thought provoking question and one that needs a panel discussion!
