I can’t even begin to understand how he creates these masterpieces, especially the way he preserves the light in a piece using charcoal. He also explains his motivation with care and thoughtfulness and in such a humane & humble manner. Thank you for this film in these times.
That's exactly what I concluded. I will give it to him. His images are much more deep and lively than most projected paintings. But there's always gonna be a certain lifelessness to that technique.
During these days, I had the pleasure of visiting the Albertina museum and discovering this incredible artist that I did not know. He took my heart, fantastic, he blew my mind. Lost in front of his works, when I discovered that they were drawings and not photos... just speechless
Robert Longo was coming up when I was in art school nyc in the late 70s w his herky jerky figures and this is the development of him into such a profound, dedicated person. so cool.
A beautifully made film, thank you! I've never fully appreciated Longo's dedication to signaling the devastation that we clearly insist on manifesting. Really moving imagery, language, insight. Wow!
This Artist and his works are simply amazing. If I stood in front of these in real life. I wouldn’t be able to convince my mind that I’m not looking at a photograph. He’s right about black and white in that sense.
Just an incredible find, I am sure I have seen Longo's work, but this is so illuminating and such a simple statement why visual art created by hand is a necessary part of life.❤
Great interview, I had a sculpture show in 1982 in N . Y. With Robert his work is super strong. Wave Hill on the Hudson River, great show.so good to see his current work, all these years! Best craig langager.
Robert is amazing, and always has insightful thoughts. Just wondering, why make it look like he makes all this work by himself? I mean, he talks about how his assistants are a big part of the team. So I’m not sure why the filmmakers have not included that. The artwork is no less incredible
Wow, that statement was amazing. 14:01 .I thought about this while watching the video. We really get caught up in worldly problems in this world, but art Doesn't it deserve to be addressed with deeper, more fundamental issues?
wow working with charchoal an having such a clean studio !! Charchoal is our main medium in greek art school and we all look like homeless people when working
Geez I can't stop breaking up about what he says about football and that it's such a stupid game, I grew up playing it but never thought of it that way until now ty Longo. I also have a love/hate attachment to charcoals. I also think the next exhibition of his work should be titled, " SELLING FIRE IN HELL" , lol. Great video.
I'd say ninety percent of contemporary artists can draw very successfully because of life drawing female and male nudes . Plus you have to have a high standard of drawing and painting to even get close to taking an art degree they don't just let anyone in. Then you learn about art theory and art history and that's when new artists are finding their own voices in contemporary ways that people that don't have the same knowledge just don't understand fully yet
Art/artist that illuminate Injustice does so as necessity to counter a world too often brutal, Condo gives voice to the voiceless. In lays the power of his work. in the early 80's a man falling backward was hung next to the Lucas Samaras Mirror Room at the Albright Knox AKG... I observed it for a very long time... the crisp white, the line defining the movement, the suede of the paper... Come back to Buffalo and use the AV towers at the new Burfchfield-Penney to show a film!

I am a 68 year old artist and I have loved your art since forever. I love it more now, so, thank you.
the talented assistants who labor to make most of this work never get credit. Cheers to them!
I can’t even begin to understand how he creates these masterpieces, especially the way he preserves the light in a piece using charcoal. He also explains his motivation with care and thoughtfulness and in such a humane & humble manner. Thank you for this film in these times.
He’s a great draftsman AND he has a team of great drafts-people in his studio
Tracing from a projected reference photograph...
@@KBD-ONE aaaand you trace your comment from crap precepts 😪
@@KBD-ONE you can trace the placement of things but you still have to model light and form... it's not that easy
That's exactly what I concluded.

A beautifully made film, thank you! I've never fully appreciated Longo's dedication to signaling the devastation that we clearly insist on manifesting. Really moving imagery, language, insight. Wow!
Great conversation with a fantastic artist.
That's what I was thinking. Great video.
Thank you for this chilling and relevant interview. Half a century of thought provoking art making. It's monumental and needed.

😢
The world needs your art.
Love this guy!!!
Amazing! Thank you♥
A talk well worth listening to.
Been a fan of Longo since I came across his work. Enjoyed this, thank you
This Artist and his works are simply amazing. If I stood in front of these in real life. I wouldn’t be able to convince my mind that I’m not looking at a photograph. He’s right about black and white in that sense.
It might as well be just photoshopped photography. Does using a charcoal then make it art. Maybe photoshopped work is art too.
Adorable Robert Longo Honest and Sincere Artist
Holy mole lay what a freakin genius. Thanks for this!
Always knew the name. Never really knew the art. And definitely didn't know he was this cool. Amazing interview. Thank you 🙏🏼

“Sometimes I feel like I’m selling fire in hell.” Robert Longo
Just crazy to see his control of the medium.
Knowing how, why, and when as art. Now. And an absolute maven of the medium.
Robert is amazing, and always has insightful thoughts. Just wondering, why make it look like he makes all this work by himself? I mean, he talks about how his assistants are a big part of the team. So I’m not sure why the filmmakers have not included that. The artwork is no less incredible
That is a solid solid point. Thanks for that ☝️
Greetings from Portugal.
This is very interesting. I haven't seen his work since the 1990's
I didn't know this about sport and war😮
This is my first encounter with Longo- I've found a new hero!
Wow, that statement was amazing. 14:01 .I thought about this while watching the video. We really get caught up in worldly problems in this world, but art Doesn't it deserve to be addressed with deeper, more fundamental issues?

OMG! a contemporary artist that can draw!!!!
He said he uses a projector
@@KBD-ONE so?

To jest sedno - o to chodzi. Dziękuję That's the gist - that's the point. Thank you.
22.50 The Bald Eagle drawing is stunningly beautiful.
Thank you. If more people quoted St. Augustine, it would be a better world.
Amazing
Deep real❤
Fabulous
The seven minutes or so beginning at 18:25 is my favorite part ❤
תודה ❤❤❤

Uh...okay 😢
That sounds gross, bull testicle, and sheep's tongue, a Dutch arabs favorite, no no, dutch isn't capitalized, ha ha a pun
“Whoever wishes to discuss others art on youtube must first cut out their fingers before they type foolishness” ~~ Me
What a foolish quote! Now how do you interpret that?
the world flips him out
then he has to make a drawing
💓
👏 👏 👏 👏 in b&w
Unindated with Relavations... interesting to hear him working this all out in real time
Still passionate!
Woah! 😳 “I’m Selling fire, in Hell.” ~ Robert Longo ♥️🔥
❤❤❤❤❤
Can you see Hendrix in the tree?
Are you experienced ?
Robert Longo is. 😉
This is why artist communicate through materials rather than words. This was a hard conversation to track.

Yes Robert, people are mean. They always have been.
Great work, unfortunately America can't lecture any country about injustice lost that privilege a long time ago...
