I love this video all the other videos are boring long and most of all it’s a repair video. This is just a beautiful view of the taperecorder and I love it. I’m going to pick a a77 up Saturday
At last I bought one of these at a radio rally recently. The quality of build is even better than I expected. Hats off to Mr Studer!! Great video, by the way.
Excellent video, thank you. I love my A77 Mk II, which I bought new in 1972. It has been in storage for many years now, though, so I have put it up for sale, but having seen your video I think I am going to keep it! I have the high-speed two-track and used it for playing and reviewing rough mixdown tapes from the studio when I was a producer. Awesome sound at 15 ips!
For information: The Rock Band "The Who" used this machine at their concerts. I think it was in 1972, I attended a concert in Memphis. This concert ran about three hours. During one of the breaks, the drummer played accompanied by this ReVox machine. I suspect that it was a two track, possibly 7.5/15 ips. I think the drummer was Keith Moon. Fantastic show but very LOUD.
Swinde Thank you for the information! I didnt know that The Who also was a user of the A77! :-) Did you know, that Pink Floyd used the A77 to record and cut all the cash-sounds for the track "Money" on the "Dark side of the moon" album? ;-)
+Bbendfender Cogratulation! You will have a lot of fun with your A77! And if you have issues with the machine: Don´t panic! All required spare-parts are available! :-)
If I am not mistaken, the Can albums between 1968-1974 were all recorded using two Revox A-77 Mk I deck synchronized together. On the first CD issue of Can's "Delay 68" there is an A-77 sitting behind Holger Czukay.
@technikfans oh shit my bad, it was the akai m-8 that has the tube pre-amps. How much should I sell the a77 for? Its perfect condition and works perfect
Dad passed away a year ago, and he had an A77 which I am sure has not been used in 25 years or more. It probably hadn't been used more than 50 hours. In setting it up again for the first time, what should I watch out for in terms of things not working properly after all these years?
@technikfans thanks for the info man, I heard the tube mic preamps in it are good for recording...you think i should keep it just for that? I also just got a panasonic reel to reel and an akai m-8 reel to reel as well....do you know anything about those?
Seems like same problem with auto stop. I think problem is not light in the room but burn-out of the element from age. Photoresistors and photodiodes won't live longer then 10-15 years.
Did you know the infamous A77 was the only ReVox/ Studer deck that had the highest sales volume over any other model ? In fact the A77 sales volume was the highest of any other RTR deck ever created.
Yes, I knew that! Over 350,000 units of the ReVox A77 were sold. The device was simply the best at the time and is still very good and technically almost perfect today.
@@technikfansI wouldn't say technically perfect today. The tape start is too abrupt and has too much stress on the tape. There should be a moving tension guide on the right also. The silver face vu meters are very poor quality, whereas the dark face vu's are far superior.
The discussion about the moving tension guide on the right side is probably as old as the ReVox A77 itself. ;-) Nevertheless, there were certainly very good reasons why the engineers decided against it at the time.
hi, what size tape does this machine play? also, is this a good machine to master down to? I record on 1/4 inch analog tape and was wondering what the best machine is to master down to
Hallo, tolles Video!
Thank you! Appreciate you putting this video up. You rule! Might you show how to do multi-track recording? I have a Mk I from '67-68. Just got it back from the technician. Works great.
Coole Videos, gute Sache.
Nothing wrong with the a77, if you have good tape and calibrate it in a good way, you can't hear the difference between a cd and the tape........... so. yes you can make mastertapes with it.
I think I did it, because the replay of the tape sounds better in this position. It´s maybe also possible, that the tape was recorded on CCIR on my STUDER tape recorder at this time - I can´t tell you now... The video is already 7 years old. ;-)
Hallo Mr. Computerfan!
...ha ha thats right. ...and maybe I have an A 77 too and it looks like your dust cover, because unesed since more than five years..(have NO dust cover). but I will clean it,.Your little movie inspired me... Thanks!

Congratulations on your video! Seeing it whet my appetite to look for a Revox-A77 and then keep my Teac A-3300S company.

I bought one of these today for $45 at an Estate Sale. Can't wait to check it out.

Seen and heard one in Crailsheim Deutschland Europa. Wonderful machines, many prefer the A77 over the later B77.
Yeah, the German accent. :) I'm Canadian and I don't think we have accents, but people from other countries say we do. :D

I just got this machine, it doesnt have fancy options, but its the most wonderful sounding machine Ive heard, the highs are like cotton candy
I always enjoy watching your videos, and I must admit I love your accent! :D
I have one ............wonderful machine...........
hi, what size tape does this machine play? also, is this a good machine to master down to? I record on 1/4 inch analog tape and was wondering what the best machine is to master down to
Does it have built in speakers ?
No! But there was a special version of the A77 with build in speakers.
Hallo, tolles Video!

recently got a REVOX A77 scripture, and from the two sides
Add some oil to the tape guide bearing that will stop the noise.
May not. Bearing is close type and oil would grease the pinch roller wich would be big NO NO

Why are you playing in the IEC position? The A77 records according to the NAB standard.
I think I did it, because the replay of the tape sounds better in this position. It´s maybe also possible, that the tape was recorded on CCIR on my STUDER tape recorder at this time - I can´t tell you now... The video is already 7 years old. ;-)
Age you can see on papst motors.
Tolles Video!

can you rig up a dummy plug cheaper then buying one?
I think probably yes, if you find some that fit...
Gutes Video! Welche Band Geschwindigkeiten hat das Gerät?
+Adrian Braun 9,52 und 19,05 cm/s
+technikfans Ah Okay!
