Congratulations!! Your video was so helpful and inspiring! I've been performing in the project management arena for ~8 years now and have finally built up the courage to begin studying for the exam. I appreciate your tips and references shared!
Congrats Miss! I took the PMP in 2019 and passed on my first attempt as well. Your path to certification is similar to mine in that I took a PMP boot camp and studied for 90 days (30 days…OMG!) then sat the exam. I agree with you with preparing for the LENGTH of the exam to test your stamina. I only did one full practice test and it shocked me at the site how long I had to sit. My body and mind wasn’t as ready as it should’ve been. Anyway, I took a break at around question 125 to get water, use the restroom, give myself a pep talk and PRAY. Also, I did the same as you ANSWERED and FLAGGED for review. That way if you run out of time you’re covered in that at least you don’t have a blank question. After I finished answering all 200 questions I had about 30 reviews and about 40 minutes left. I took a quick stretch and relaxation breathing break in my chair and started knocking out the ones that I was fairly sure of and that left 5 or 6 questions that were “toss ups” with like 10 minutes left. I just chose my BEST GUESS with those. I took the entire 4 hours as well with only 2 or 3 minutes to spare. I was SO nervous after the evaluation. When I saw PASSED I was super.elated and relieved because all off the studying paid off AND I wouldn’t have to go back to my job and tell them that boot camp and exam they paid for was a waste…Talk about EMBARRASSING (Whew!) Honestly, I believe one’s approach and methods of preparing for taking the exam and even the test taking techniques used to pass the exam itself speak to the skill level it takes to be a successful Project Manager. Planning your strategy to get certified, starting the process of scheduling and signing up for the boot camp and exam and managing your study time and 4 hours of exam time are all project management traits and actually HELP you get certified. Anyway, I love your story, your moxie, faith and your energy. Again, congratulations.
Great video!! I have an MPA as well and I’m hoping to take the PMP exam in September. I’ve been interviewing for PM jobs but I think they are passing on me due to the lack of certification. Update* I was offered a couple PM positions, I am now working as a PM II without taking the PMP! 🙂
Thank you for that information. You're the first person I found that took the time to give context to where your experience and skill level was at before studying for the PMP exam. Loved the tips, tricks and your honesty. Thank you!
Great job on the video! Pray for me girl..tomorrow is the day! I did the same thing you did! It made me feel good that I might be blessed with passing!
I'm writing PMP in 4 days...even though I've been preparing for months, I'm still anxious. My Centre Based exam was cancelled due to Covid restrictions and rescheduled it as a Proctored exam. I will be back here to share the good news soon.
heyy that was quite motivational. thank you for all the tips. i am just going to begin my PMP course from tomorrow. hope to knock it off like u in 30 days. Thank you once again for taking the effort to make this video!! God bless u
Your video and links are very helpful. I am preparing to take the exam in summer of 2022. I work full time and have a family so hopefully that gives me enough time.
This was helpful I’m also a public health professional. I’m interested in program evaluation and implementation and I’ve been going back in forth about if I should get an MPH or a PMP and focus on Pub Health. I’m still figuring it out and a lot a bit nervous about the exam. Thank you for sharing your tips.
Did you do the self face option for your course or did you do the live. If you did self pace, were you able to ask questions about a topic if it came up ? If so, how good were they with responding ?
Hi! For Masters of Project Academy, I did self paced! And, I didn’t ask any questions in the chat, but I could where others had! Best of luck to your PMP journey!
