Exploring the Village of ADDINGTON | Surrey
Вставка
- Опубліковано 5 сер 2024
- I’m just South of Croydon in Surrey to visit the Ancient Parish of Addington. Walking around, I look at the 18th Century Old Village Forge, do a bit Dowsing around some mysterious Stones near the Tram Stop and explore the Ancient St Mary’s Church (I should add I didn’t go to didn’t go to Addington Palace). Lunch is at ‘The Cricketers’, a Harvester Pub.

Phill is an great history person love his work 👍🏻🏆
Fascinating history. Loved those tombs.
Yes, wasn't expecting that.
Very interesting and only around the corner 🎉
A grey day, but a very enlightening video!
Thanks Nigel, you should have seen the Raw Footage before I Colour Graded for the Edit.
Very enjoyable, thank you 😊
You're welcome.
Lovely church! Interesting stones!
Thank you Mary.
Thank you @@MarqEnglish
Interesting video Marq, surprising how much is on our doorsteps.
I know what you mean.
I moved up to N.A. in 1960 and those stones were not there. If you take a closer look, you will find that some of the stones have chisel or digger marks on them due mainly to the roadworks when building the Kent Gateway.
The police station we caught a glimpse of next to the Cricketers, is where Eric Cantona was taken after the footballing incident.
Thanks very much for that information and I think you've cleared up the mystery.
Thanks for the mention, great work!
Thanks Phil, I was going to post a Comment on your Video as a bit more info regarding those Stones. Been enjoying your Videos.
@@MarqEnglish they are a bit odd, aren’t they? I mean, they levelled the whole area except those - maybe that ran out of budget to dig them up and cart them away!
Yes, what I failed to mention although I think you did in your Video is that it's a slight mound and I think the Stones have been placed there. It's rather intriguing.@@philswallow
The old post office was also a sweet shop as a kid i used to stop there and buy sweets with my bus money on the way home from Shirley secondary school
Thanks for sharing those memories Peter.
There is a good Harvester near Windsor if you do near there. The Bells of Ouseley. It is next to the Thames great in Summer.
Impressive church! Many years ago I caught a tram from East Croydon to Addington Hill to start a bit of the London Loop from there round to Happy Valley.
I bet that was a nice Walk.
@@MarqEnglish It was very interesting and surprising rural at that time - although we had a thunderstorm part way round!
Great video, Marq - I was near Addington before Christmas as Josh had a winter camp at a scout campsite just down the road - right on the cusp of rural Surrey and suburbia!
New Addington had an awful reputation but I understand that the tram going there has really improved matters
Yes I recall that about New Addington but a lot of these places eventually recover.
Nice research too.
Thank you.
Cant beat a Harvester , I use the one in Morden the George .
I past the one in Morden today actually.
I normally pop in for a quick pint after work
