Thank you a ton for the reupload! Im getting into building my own set up because of you and I can't thank you enough!
You are very welcome! Glad its easier to follow. Appreciate the kind words my friend!!
Same I've always like RGB LEDs but never knew where to start but these videos have been so easy to follow and learn from I love them.
Would like to see a video detailing the newer, wider Muzata U109 spotless diffuser channel… can’t find any info about them on their Amazon store
Thank you for re-posting with the on screen labels. Very helpful.
You are very welcome! Glad it helps! Thanks buddy!
Hi Chris! Great comparison as always. Wondering about the splicing possibilities of the 2 pro version? At what interval does the light strip enable copper points for soldering? If I’m not mistaken, the M1 has soldering points every 50 cm or 100 cm? From the pictures there seems to be a lot of cutting possibilities but no solder points?
Thanks for watching and great question! Although the new pro has a lot more cut points, unfortunately the solder points remain the same distance as the m1 which is a little less than 20 inches.
Thanks for asking that question. I was wondering the same thing.
Chris, would love to see how you would set up LED strips for a garage ceiling. I love your set ups and I feel like that’s when I haven’t seen from you just yet. As always, love these videos!
Yeah that would be a great idea! My garage is an absolute mess right now lol. Maybe once i get everything cleaned out I could try doing something! I love those honeycomb type lights I've seen!
Thx for a great video Chris. Who is the artist in the songs - love her voice but can’t seem to find it on music or Spotify?
Thx.
Here is the link to the artist page: arcadenights.bandcamp.com/ Glad you like the song!!
How do you set the strips to BEGIN in the MIDDLE of the strip & cascade out from there?
I got the strip light pro 2 from your link yesterday & Amazon just delivered but I'm not seeing that feature like in your video
Thanks for watching! That was all on the music react feature. On the screen you should see the one I was using. I'm not sure if you can get that effect under the DIY option but would be worth digging into to see if its possible.
Most interesting!
Seems only music mode begins the animation in the middle of the strip.
I drove into the DIY settings and unfortunately there is nothing available to have the animation begin in the middle of the strip what's worse is the themes that govey creates are beautiful and yet in 2024 we continue to be limited changing the movement of list of themes. Surely there's someone you can talk to where they could do an easy fix and update the app to let us decide where the animation begins and where it ends on a strip. My M1 also does not allow beginning an animation in the middle of the strip.
My Y lights have the ability as do the square lights from govee.
So these guys know how but they're purposely choosing to not allow it on every single with the lamps that I have from them and purposely choosing not to allow it on every single one of the strips that I have had from them up to and including this new light strip pro.
The continuously make a case to push us to going to wled
how do the pros compare to BTF-LIGHTING 24v WS2805?
I have not tested the ws2805 kit yet but from the looks of it, pretty similar. Definitely a good idea for a future video comparing the two!
This is fascinating stuff! I'm just now considering LED lighting all because I was only looking for smth decorative to put btwn the wall & ceiling & then came across the Muzata U131 & now I'm ~obsessed with the concept, so looking for a video testing that particular model.. my preference wd have it on the ceiling with the curve facing downwards so it's lighting down the walls. From this comparison test, looks like the best for my use would be 2Pro! (the COB lost when 1%! was still BLINDING, lol) Now to figure out HOW I can start saving up for both.. omg, at $100 each, ouch! 😅✨😭💰🤩🌈
Great review but the Canadian prices aren’t glowing! Ouch!
It is crazy how much more expensive things are in Canada! We have friends in the Vancouver area and I don't even think I could afford a closet to live in let alone a house in that area!
@Chris Maher, You've got the pull w/ Govee to make this happen.
The 'start animation in the middle' isn't available on the Strips of LED's. Nor in the DIY section of the app.
I have every model of Govee strips, including the latest pro that was released 3 days ago, and not one has that flexibility to give the end user the option to start animation in the middle of the strip.
My Y lights, yes.
My cube lights, yes.
And though ripple scene is available on a very small few of LED strips from govee, we still can't control the color of the animation nor the speed (i'm looking at you rainbow scene)
It sucks that to get this effect we have to purchase yet another strip which means another mac address on our wifi.
Why does Govee push, users like me, to move everything over to WLED and forego using Govee with stuff like this is a mystery.
But I'm hoping you can talk to your Govee rep. 🙏
Wondering if their COB or Pro 2 can be used with WRGB :) If not, still, some soldering experiments with it all will be nice to see if you actually cut it (COB one and Pro 2) and make it into segments connected by wires for more sophisticated use cases.
@chrismaherDiy, The M1 vs Pro Light Strip 2 the lumens appear to be double based on what I could find online... Do you think this is true? I currently use M1 as a primary light source for 2 rooms.
Thank you Chris! I’ve been obsessed with their best in market COB strip for a while. Is it possible to cut into multiple pieces and connect to one controller like with other strips like WLED? I’m considering adding more under cabinet lights and unfortunately need multiple pieces (20 inch, 42 inch, etc).
hey @ChrisMaherDIY What do you think of the bare govee cob LEDS on the muzata acrylic base board diffusers? I think if govee puts out the COB LEDs as a bare strip that will pop like mad
reuploaded ,.. my brain can relax now ;)
Lol. I dont know why I didn't think to do that in the first place. Thanks for watching buddy!
Chris, love your videos they are very educational. I'm halfway through a studio build but would love some advice re lighting. Could I reach out to you?
Where are your wires? Left of screen and off camera?
lol, yes. Mess of wires to the left off screen. If you were to actually have this as a setup, you better have a sofa chair or good size night stand or something to hide everything behind!
Incredible job Chris...What size is that trim that you are using ?
The re-upload with the labels was fantastic. Thanks for doing that. Question: how many COB strips can you connect together? I would need 5 of these (9.8 ft each) to cover the room I am thinking. Thanks again.
Thanks buddy! Glad you liked it! Cob's are not extendable :( The new pro lights work up to 10 meters but the cob is max of 5.
@@ChrisMaherDIY Man that is a shame, i would need 50 ft of light to fully wrap my room ceiling, and i was hoping to do one row of COB and another on the light pro 2s within my muzata V101 diffusers... i hope they make more lengths because i would like the punch of the COB for room lighting as well as the dimness of the pro light 2s
@@ChrisMaherDIY Thanks Chris. What lights do you recommend for a 17' x 27' room?
Can you cut the COB strip and splice it for gaps?
Currently doing a setup for my son, How do you get the opposite direction of the strip from the corner ? I'll be doing MagWLED w/ SK6812's. Is this animation "Govee specific" or can it be accomplished with WLED also ? The corner setup to music is beautiful. I'll definitely do this with all the extra diffusers I'll have. Thanks a bunch Chris !!
You can definitely do that with wled :) In segment control, create one segment on the one wall and the other segment for the other wall. Then you can play around with revers/mirror until you get the look your going for. Hope that makes sense!
That’s dedication, great comparison!
@ChrisMaherDIY I can't really make up my mind, but between govee light strip pro 2 and govee light strip m1 which one is brighter?
Thanks for watching! Brightness I would say they are about the same. If money is not super tight, I would go with the Pro 2. In my opinion they are better in every way (except brightness they appear to be about the same) But the better white light performance and smoother animations is why I would go with the new ones!
@ChrisMaherDIY I have got so hook into your videos of all things LED's and the ESP32. From tutorials for first time beginners to your amazing media center/computer setup. The one thing that I haven't seen or missed, the Wled does broadcast E1.31 protocol that you literally can extend to anything imagine. You can literally synchronized every device on E1.31 and not even use sound reactive at all. On PC there is Open RGB or SignalRGB to support it, for anything like outdoor Xlights and using sequences and music files for a complete show.
Thanks so much for the kind words! I did a recent video on WLED and signalrgb. Have you seen that video yet? It was probably one of my favorite videos I've done! ua-cam.com/video/oJSHDFETdV8/v-deo.html I'll have to check out some of the other ones you've mentioned!
Which channel did you use to install the COB lights?
Great video Chris. Just purchased the COB strip before seeing your video as an alternative to the Secretlab/Nanoleaf MAGRGB strip for the new secretlab magnus pro xl desk. I wanted a diffused look that would fit the desk seamlessly for ambient lighting. The COB seems to be a little long but I was just going to cut it, but now looking at the Light Strip pro 2, they have the correct length. What would your suggestion be? You seem to not like the COB light as much as the Pro 2 strip.
What an awesome desk! You will have to let me know what you think of it! Unless you need the crazy brightness that cob offers, I personally would lean towards the pro strip. But if it's for indirect lighting then I think either would be just fine as the smoother animations that the pro strip offers becomes less of a big deal.
I have an L shaped desk that has also a waterfall edge on one side. Would it be the COB light strip be flexible enough to cover the side of the waterfall edge (I am thinking of sticking it on the side that one touches)? Btw awesome video
Thanks! I do think the cob would be flexible enough or at the very least, going to be the closest to what your wanting to do out of any of the other products i've seen!
I just came from listening the first song and it almost felt weird hearing the same song lol
Lol yeah I bet! Did you like the song?
This new Goove pro strip is using WS2805 leds, right?
Thanks for watching! They appear to be but they do not work as a ws2805 light in WLED. So either they are not a ws2805 strip or govee's in house chip prevents it from playing nice with WLED. Thats my early finding so far!
Can two govee strip light pro be connected together?
Its a shame the cob doesnt look as good as the pro one with the effects
To me the cob ones seem better for regular lighting while having the option for cool effects. Like it’s not the main reason you’d get those ones
I agree! Cob for pure light and brightness, Pro for everything else in my opinion.
Did you put the brad nails into studs ? or was everything light enough to just nail into the drywall ?
Thanks for watching! Just the drywall. No need to find the studs!
Ty for the added names 🎉
You are very welcome! Thanks for watching again!
Great video! Really helpful! What is the size difference between the new COB lights and the old Neon Desk lights? The COB assembly looks shallower (bulges out less from the wall). If that's true, I might switch to the new COB lights for my home theater walls.
Thanks! Great question. Cob I would say is 7.5mm while the neon desk lights are closer to 15mm. Definitely a very shallow profile!
@@ChrisMaherDIY thanks again. If the new ones are half as tall, I’m going to upgrade to them!
Dude 99 for 10 ft of cob. Rip off
Thank you Chris.
Thanks buddy! If i'm ever in your neck of the woods i'm going to have to stop by and say hi!! Hope you have a great week!
@@ChrisMaherDIY 🤩
Many thanks once again from the UK Chris; inspirational as always 👍👍👍
Pretty sure this room is just gonna be floor to ceiling led screens 🤣
Lol its a bummer because every time I want to do a new video or test out something I need to take an old one down! I cant complain though. Its always fun!
Link for that awesome entertainment cabinet under the TV?
Thanks for watching! Here is the video where I made it! ua-cam.com/video/Bte2lbwbh8I/v-deo.html
Great video as always. Love your channel! Given that we can convert Govees to run on WLED boards, would you still recommend some of the classic Amazon-available light strips for WLED, or would you be inclined to start suggesting the new Govee strips for both Govee PNP and WLED?
If you are wanting truly individually addressable lights, then stick with the diy. If you dont mind the control in groups, it would be a toss up. the new pro strip really is a solid product and i'm curious to see how it compares to the ws2805 lights. Might have to make a video on that in the future! But there are always going to be people that want plug and play and there will always be people that want to go the diy path. Govee is smart going after the plug and play crowd that dont have the desire or time to invest in the diy option.
Awesome, thx!!
The hardware of the govee does sound intriguing. I might actually go with the govee strips, and wire it up with the govee app. I bet I could just rewire the same strips in the future as a wled project if desired.
Is it worth upgrading from M1? I just got M1 with the diffuser channel and installed them.
Man, that's a tough one. M1 is still great but if you find your self wanting to use white light a lot it might be worth the swap. but if you mostly use it for colors, I would probably just keep the m1 and not go through all the work of swapping things out.
@@ChrisMaherDIY If the only verdict is the white colors I don’t think it’s worth spending extra $80 for it. Thx man
Chris always present for LED news. Thank you man, you're doing an amazing job :)
Thanks so much!! Appreciate the support!
excelent work man 🔝💯👏👍
Thanks buddy!!
Thank you for the re-upload and review. Whats the width and depth of the cob light strip pro?
You're very welcome! The depth is about 7.5mm and the width is about 20mm. Hope that helps!
super thank you for this! I didn't want to leave a comment saying the sme thing but I did have the same thought. Ended up screenshotting the part where you had arrows pointing out each one and just kept the screenshots on my other monitor for the whole video so I could keep track haha.
Yeah looking back it was even hard for me to follow and I'm the one who put everything up lol! Glad this updated version is easier to follow!
Such a clean video, thanks Chris!
Thanks buddy!! Appreciate it!
Woah you are amazing!
Thanks for watching and the kind words buddy!
How to install COB under cabinet? :(
Cob would be great for undercabinet but you would have to do some cutting and soldering if you wanted to make clean turns. I might try doing a quick video to see how easy/difficult it would be to solder gaps to the cob lights!
That is a project I want to do in my kitchen. I'm worried about the cutting and soldering, hoping that you make that project happen.
@@ChrisMaherDIYplease do. Was curious if COB could be cut and spliced together like the M1s.
Amazing as always!!
Thanks as always buddy!
Chris we need a U108 vs U109 video!
yeah that would be a good video to do! I'll put it on the list of ideas I have. The new ones are great. The ONLY downside to the new ones that i've seen so far is that they currently are not sold in 2 meters.
@@ChrisMaherDIY is this a big brawback? 2m seems more professional but if i connect 2 x 1m can you spot the difference(in the connecting parts)? Im from Greece and i only can find them in UK and only 1m, 2m is too long for shipping so only 1m for me
I'm still just in-freakin-love with you UST projector. It is always showing an incredible picture.
Thanks for watching! Its for sure fun to have! Its not even a high end one (still expensive but not compared to other stuff) Its from Paris Rhone but I dont think they make it anymore :(
