Supertramp is a one-of-a-kind band. Like the Beatles, CCR, Steely Dan, Pink Floyd, ELP, Jethro Tull. They create their own mold.

I have always felt that way. They are by themselves. Many reactors have called them Pink Floydish with their build up, clear understandable vocals with lyrics that make you think. Delivered in a very unique way with the instruments they choose to use. Sometimes these instruments are their own vocals.

The dreamers are all of us.
    Every nation, everyone.
Why can we not achieve peace and save ourselves from our own destruction?

You actually got it! They keep it at almost a soft frenzy like tempo that continues to build but never reaches a crescendo. They do it to keep it almost like it's a level of frustration because you're not attaining the dream that you want to if that makes sense to you. I believe that's what you're trying to say with this and I hope I'm getting it right because if it is that's pretty much how they wrote this song. I know this because that's how they explained it later interviews years and years ago

"It's Raining Again" is a wonderful song from Supertramp. I'd recommend this one.

The one thing you'll notice about this band when it comes to their vocals. Is that even when it sounds dissonant and they layer it it still sounds really cool.

if you truly want to be blown away by Supertramp, you really should listen to their self titled 1st album, the one with a big flower with a face in it on the cover.
Its amazing, not what you will be expecting, but so much more. ua-cam.com/video/MGgHCnAjrYo/v-deo.html

Thank you my great friend, Silverfox. Dreamer is my favorite too. Seems like it is a fan favorite from some of the Roger Hodgson concerts I have watched recently. 👍

HIGH Harri....I have had the extreme pleasure of seeing Supertramp “The Tramp” LIVE 4 times. Their music is pure brilliance from each member of the group. Rick Davies - My Favorite Piano/Keyboard Player. John Helliwell - Favorite Sax player. He is very "Animated" on stage, fun to watch his antics. Roger's guitars are awesome and vocals are unique, Bob and Dougie make a great rhythm section. Their Live shows are spectacular. I only put Pink Floyd (4 times) one place higher for their shows.

If I recall correctly, this hit number one on the US charts for many weeks and also on Europe's charts. I believe it got several awards BUT they were in different categories. BECAUSE they're so awesome as a band... it was like they couldn't really fit them into one mold.

First date with my GF/wife to be. 1975. Saw the Tramp only once since then, but Roger Hodgson still tours. We are still married and still go see him every November when his tour, with choir, orchestra and band comes to the Toronto area. Catch his live show before it's too late! Never grows old. Dreamer was a huge hit back then, their first of many.

I BELIEVE that the keyboard is actually a Roland synthesizer as well. I'm saying that because that's also what my brother used to play for gigs. He had a regular electric keyboard that he used, but he also had a second Roland. Because of course...well you know damn well that you can't go rolling the BIG STANDING PIANO down the stairs and outta our house! There's just no way to shove into the back of my parents Volvo wagon every weekend! LOL!

What a pity they imploded (creative/personality stuff - the usual!). My brother-in-law, a very fine musician, has played with or sound-produced Rick Davies in a variety of capacities and incarnations on and off over the past 30 years. Nice guy, apparently. But, according to my brother in law (please excuse this hearsay), he never had many positive comments saved up for Roger Hodgson (the singer), which is so sad. They were so brilliant together.

Are those Sennheiser HD 25 headphones? In Red if so, good choice.
This version is a little tame, the studio version that was their Album had far more impact.

Don't know how many noticed John Helliwell knocking a microphone over when he got off of the piano. It kind of looks like he did it on purpose. The way he moved his foot to the rear before attempting to get off. He is a joker on stage. Making Roger laugh.

Not a guitar to be seen. Synth rock almost ruined rock. At least they kept the bass real.
