    At first sight, this seems like a great way into Schengen. But…. Assuming you want to be a resident in the EU/Schengen, I would be very reluctant to hang my hat on Hungary. It’s a great country no doubt but it’s leadership is heavily at odds with the EU and who knows where that will end up? If becoming a part of the EU is that important to you, I think one of the more naturally EU aligned countries like Portugal would serve you better in the long run. Really enjoyed your perspective though as always.

      I think this is a ridiculous statement, because, you clearly don’t agree with Hungary’s leadership, clearly, you’re suggesting there’s a chance they will be booted from the EU, yea right. Leaders come and go, quite an incredible woke, naive perspective.

    • @squarepegroundhole464
      @squarepegroundhole464 2 роки тому +1

      Yes actually, I do think a risk exists where Hungary will push itself into an EU exit. It happened in the UK so to assume it won’t happen anywhere else is naive. I was suggesting somewhere like Portugal is highly unlikely to leave the EU hence for a not dissimilar investment it would be where I would head.

      Furthermore, I fully respect any democratically elected leader and one that stands up to the EU to protect its own countries culture and interest I have even more respect for.

    I used to live in Budapest over 7 years. Hungarians are very skeptic, cautious, reserved people. Very hard to get any trust from them, which takes a very long time. If you live there, try to get a good property in district II only.

    • @guusgeluk3693
      @guusgeluk3693 2 роки тому

      Why would you say only district 2? I heard great things about district 4 and to stay away from district 8. Visiting budapest in 2 weeks

      @@OffshoreCitizen Unfortunately no, because ALL of my talented English speaking Hungarian friends already moved out from Budapest, to London, Dublin, Zurich..... I visit Budapest for my dental treatment only.

    We are in Hungary now and planning on being here 2 months in our search to find where we would like to live on a more permanent basis. Hard to get to know locals since there are so many tourists. Experience so far is the Serbians are more friendly, at least initially. Luckily my wife qualifies for citizenship by descent in Hungary...trying to learn the language and its really hard. 35 cases for nouns verses Slavic where there is 7. We found Serbian easier...not that we know either of them very good.
    Buda seems to he the place to be if you want it to be more quiet. District 3 seems nice. District 6 is nice if you want to he downtown without way too much noise.

    Great news on the Hungarian program. Can you provide more details on min investment and if any holding period. Does the residency entitle you to their public healthcare. For US citizens no tax in Europe is a good one.

    Under what conditions, must the company operate? Can it be a company based upon the real estate ownership? Are there minimum investment requirements? Types of qualifying investments?

    By owning and renting out a property, don't you have to report it and pay tax on it?
    In most EU countries by owning a property you automatically become a tax resident and it is a burden on you to prove that you are not using it for yourself (or intending to). No matter how long you're staying. Please let me know if there is something special about this case.
    Or could you possibly establish LLC and buy properties through that LLC?

    Looks like the U.K.... Hungary is a great option for cost of living and location for ease of access to eastern Europe. Many people you will commonly meet there speak German and/or English, which helps livability.

    Hungarian is a Finno-Urgic language like Finnish, Estonia, and non-Slavic languages of Russia, near the Ural Mtns. It is not an Indo-European language like the Romance, Germania, & Slavic languages of Europe.

    If you are an EU passport holder and you establish residency in Hungary using the much simpler method for EU citizens (ie. proof of funds to support yourself and health insurance), would there be a minimum stay requirement to renew said residency?

    • @OffshoreCitizen
